He feels alive when he sings with live instruments, like the orchestra in musicals. That's why he wanted his album to be filled with band sounds. - Being in musicals and Jang Jane praising his writing skills is what inspired him to write lyrics for all the songs in his album. Whenever he has the chance to sing, he wanted it to be sincere. - His tentative title for Self-Portrait was 'Plagiarism' but it was rejected by the A&R team because it's a negative word that might cause misunderstandings. - There's a connection between his old song Curtain and Starry Night saying Curtain is what breakup is like on the outside and Starry Night is what breakup is like on the inside. - Self-Portrait is Suho/Kim Junmyeon's story for the past 8 years. It's not a love story and not just about romance so we have to read between the lines.

*Summary*
- The album's inspiration is Van Gogh. He wasn't interested in art until he saw a Van Gogh painting at a museum in 2017. "I fell in with him" ever since. Like how Van Gogh expressed his emotions through his self-portrait paintings, he wants to express his in the album.
- He liked band music since he was a kid. He liked Nell (band). He feels alive when he sings with live instruments, like the orchestra in musicals. That's why he wanted his album to be filled with band sounds.
- Being in musicals and Jang Jane praising his writing skills is what inspired him to write lyrics for all the songs in his album. Whenever he has the chance to sing, he wanted it to be sincere.
- His tentative title for Self-Portrait was 'Plagiarism' but it was rejected by the A&R team because it's a negative word that might cause misunderstandings.
- There's a connection between his old song Curtain and Starry Night saying Curtain is what breakup is like on the outside and Starry Night is what breakup is like on the inside.
- Self-Portrait is Suho/Kim Junmyeon's story for the past 8 years. It's not a love story and not just about romance so we have to read between the lines.
