      Comparing an orange and an apple. Reliability is not everything when choosing a vehicle. My family loves BMW,
      Benz. Their design concept is different. Leading edge tech vs. conservative approach, Is there fun driving RX350?

    • @EricFortuneJr.
      @EricFortuneJr. 4 년 전 +8

      Tony Hwang RX350 (might) not be as “fun” to drive as an X5 or ML but at least you can drive it longer. For those who do a lot of driving a Lexus will generally require fewer trips to the service department even after the warranty expires. You won’t find too many high mileage BMWs out there that don’t leak oil or coolant or that isn’t in need of some sort of repair. German cars are great for leasing, but I’d never buy one as a long term driver and most certainly wouldn’t buy a used one for more than $500.00. The proof is in the resale value.

    It’s worth noting On the TL/TLX that many rough idle problems were caused by owners ignoring the manufacturer recommendation for higher octane fuel. Honda traditionally has had bigger problems with Automatic transmissions than Toyota, but many Honda/Acura models have better overall engines than Toyota Lexus. It really comes down to the specific Year/Model, not a bad choice either way.
    Also worth noting, Consumer Reports focuses mainly on the first 3 years of ownership, and not on long term longevity.

    Good stuff and thanks for doing those comparisons. I own a 2016 ES 350 executive trim with 156000 KM driven in Ontario. So far the only issue I had it was the water pump replaced for $745 at 140K and exhausted pipe tail gate peeling of the interior black cotting. They replaced them 3 times on warranty but all got the same issue. In the end I told the dealer to buy the proper temp resististive paint and fix them. Since then no issues. Otherwise a WONDERFUL car , that you can depend on and enjoy driving. The new ES 350 failed to delivery innovation and high standards so my next gig could be an A6 55 TFSI TECKNIK with all the bells and whistles that my ES has. Am I getting into a lemon give the VW/AUDI reputation in the industry?

    Back I'm the day the Lexus, Acuras, Infiniti were bullet proof. I know I might get cursed out but even people in my family back then had Mercedes , Volvos, Cadillac, Lincolns and Buicks that were very reliable. And my grandmother still currently owns her 1992 Cadillac with over 200,000 miles. Which she bought brand new, that we wished it would die so she could have gotten a new one. But most of the family gave up by 2006🤣.Over the years the Japanese brand has been more reliable than Domestic and European. But just like our Big 3 it seems the rest of the world has followed short of cutting back on things. It's no longer Quality over Quantity. It seems like most of the Japanese cars of the 90s were more reliable than the newer ones now.

    Acura hard starting, vibrating idle are caused by the computer always purposely pushing the envelope to run the engine super LEAN.
    FIX: replace the skinny Iridium OEM plugs with double platinum to provide a much smoother idle and low-rpm torque...
    more consistent spark path in lean mixtures.
    Iridium's tiny electrode supposedly are the best plugs but are *PRACTICALLY* worse.
    The issue is not with the electrode material but with its reduced surface that can yield a spark.
    Sanity is restored without irridium bs.

      Ask yourself this, what do all these supposedly high quality automakers have in common? Think about it and you’ll see why the consumer reports lean towards them more.

    I’ve owned many Honda Acuras and we currently have a 09 ES 350. I’ll compare it to the 01 Acura TL I bought new. I liked the drive of the TL better, the TL needed the seats in the ES and it’s quietness. I drove a lot back then and the only problem I had with the TL was transmission, I went thru 4 and sold the car at 220k miles, only oil filter changes, and other routine maintenance. The Lexus has been reliable as well, only routine maintenance as well. It’s very comfy but it isn’t as fun to drive as the TL was. I also own a bmw 330 and 2 MB, my wife absolutely loves to drive the 330, and she drives it harder than I do, I asked her why she does it, she says my Lexus just doesn’t drive like this. None of my kids ask to borrow the ES. My BMW has been reliable but it requires a little more tlc, the key is having a good Indy mechanic.
