You're very right but I also feel as if the parents are partially to blame. The kill kit, the doctors, the schools- they all warned them. Hell, even the blood on the bumper and the ID. But it took finding the head of an innocent man for them to realize what everyone else had been warning them about from the beginning. So while I feel for them, I also feel like the way they coddled him through his violent behavior and made the school feel bad for bringing it up and claiming discrimination (while he himself has discriminated against fat people, Asians, homeless people and more in his "jokes") definitely contributed to him being able to do this in the first place. When they found the kill kit, at the very least, that should've been enough to call the cops, get him committed or something. But they just gave him a slap on the wrist and promised not to tell if he didn't do it again. This is also through the consequences of their neglect to recognize and neutralize the danger/threat before he was fully formed and found his conditions to finally follow through with what he'd been fantasizing about for so long.

@@Prettyp1999 I think it’s a ‘no easy answers’ situation. I can agree to an extent, but what exactly are they supposed do? They threatened calling the cops, but if they knew the law, the cops can’t really do anything because he hadn’t technically committed any crime; it’s alarming, but it’s not a crime or enough to prove conspiracy to commit murder just owning a bag full of tools, zip ties, and knives. He was formally diagnosed, so we know they had him see a psychiatrist, but even kids that get sent to therapy have ended up committing heinous acts + he’s legally an adult, so they can’t force him to keep going or take medication he’s been prescribed. They couldn’t have him involuntarily committed because he wasn’t showing signs of psychosis, and even if they did, the best they could get is a 72-hour hold. The most they could’ve done is kicked him out, and that’s basically just shoving the problem out of sight where he possibly could’ve continued killing others or even retaliated against the family. His mom even said she looked for further resources but nobody in town could see him. This all on top of taking care of another child and trying to pay the bills. These things always seem easy on paper, but if you’ve ever had to deal within the system, there’s often very little assistance/resources available for people like Brian’s parents until it’s too late.

In our small town we have a homeless man exactly like Warren. Our whole community helps and protects him. We all helped him build a small cabin, garden, dog pin for his pups everything. He works for the local garbage company. His dogs are the best dogs ever and he lets them out everyday at 3 bc he knows that’s when the kids get home. They come running up to greet the kids and then play until dusk. Then we walk the pups home with a plate of dinner. I can assure you that Warren was well loved by his community more than that psychopath could ever know. I hope he gets life and is never let out.
That woman knew he was harmed the minute he didn’t turn up as usual. That’s real care!

This is my hometown, and that man may have been homeless, but he was well known throughout the community and wasn’t a nuisance. It’s the 2nd incident in the last 20 years that was devastating in this community, after losing Deputy Geer. Absolutely mind blowing.

I am the second woman with my husband who was looking for Warren. I also testified in the trial but this is first time I saw Brian's response to what he did .Makes me sick how nonchalant he was about taking he human life he thought didn't matter if anything I hoped we help show that He did matter and is very much missed

It's a dreadful thing. But I think she also knows - or should know - that she has played a role in this story. They should have taken drastic measures long before. For instance, when they found the murder kit. The guilt feeling must be devastating.

I went through his archived Reddit posts and some posts were written like a journal. He journals about working with his dad outside and feeling like the birds are watching him. He journals about the nunchucks and how his friend didn’t get in as much trouble, he journals about how him getting charged with assault almost got his moms daycare closed, and the descriptions of his journal says his parents knew way more about his disturbing behavior than they let on. He also goes into deep detail about how he killed that cat. It’s truly vile and sure good for mom for doing the bare minimum and calling the police but there were signs and I truly don’t believe how his dad could honestly say he thought there was nothing wrong with him.
It seems like they knew, just were in denial about how bad...

Then you can even relive the skilled kill by making etsy jewelry out of the bones, maybe keep the teeth and pelt for home decor. Keep some Jerky in the freezer. It's not a farfetched situation to think that a wide percentage of first time hunters "want to know what it feels like to take a life", but the difference here is the value of a human being. 🦌

This happened in my home town. Warren was actually a well know and loved member of the community. He was not housed but he had a job and was often seen downtown reading. There is a memorial for him at the bench he used to frequent. He was missed immediately and still is to this day.

Brian is responsible for his own actions and that’s why he’s in prison, but they raised the monster and by the fathers own admission turned a blind eye because the reality was difficult to confront.

@@jlvjazzI do believe to some extent, yes. It is the parents’ responsibility as their child is growing up to get them the help and support they need, especially if the child gives signs like he did.
Of course, some people are just.. dark and nothing will help, but it was said multiple times that people just didn’t pay attention or do much about his behaviour.
In the end, he is absolutely responsible for his actions, and he knows the difference between right and wrong, but it was obvious that something wasn’t right. Had more attention been brought to his tendencies and something was done about it, things may have changed course
This is why I attach myself to homeless people, street walkers, street workers. Etc. they are so vulnerable to demonic predators. I always want to be able to give the police/ family some kind of answer for these beautiful souls. They’re not scum, they’re not target practice, they aren’t wild prey to be hunted. As someone who is autistic, I knew he was autistic before the voice over said. It takes an autistic person to know another autistic person just by looking at them. I could tell by the way he spoke, the way he handled himself and how he just straight up told the police what he had done. Not to mention his obsession with morbid things.
Now, after saying this, please don’t think all autistic are murderers or criminals. It’s just the fact there’s criminals in all walks of life, and in every corner of humanity.
I for sure feel for his parents. Especially his mum. Can’t imagine how they’ve felt that day.

I completely, completely agree with everything you say.
Besides the fact that he had a whole bunch of other mental challenges, besides being autistic, which were way more relevant to the murder (psychopathy for sure!), it is also very important to realize that EVERYONE has a choice. Always. No matter the challenges.
And it's also important to acknowledge that this killer did NOT act alone. This drama has been enabled by the passivity, denial, self-deception and cowardness of bystanders.
The kid could just as well have walked around with the letters "MURDERER" on his forehead. But the problem was that no one really wanted to look at it (just like the now-proven fact that many German families easily could have KNOWN what was happening with the Jews, but deliberately did not WANT to LOOK at it). The few who did look, and did act, were not powerful enough to turn things around.
Came here to say this. This guy is a monster independent of his autism. Nearly all of us feel the exact same empathy that normal people do, we just have a harder time expressing it. The expression difficulties can make something like sociopathy harder to spot, but his lack of empathy for other thinking, feeling human beings (and other creatures) is not an autistic trait.

It says a lot about what a special man he was. It also says a lot about the folks who looked past his homelessness and genuinely cared for him. I wish more people were like this. Some of the homeless people I have encountered are the kindest, most generous folks I have ever met. Those who have so little are often willing to give up their last $5 to help someone in need, while so many with plenty just hoard all their wealth.

i'd argue "extremely cared for" would mean someone would have given him a place to stay. i think he was well liked but not liked enough to go out of their way to substantially help him where it matters. it's nice that people would give him small freebies and acknowledge him, but if he was actually loved, the real kind of love, and if he made real connections with the community, someone would have stepped up and did something more than give him a drink and a seat. why wouldn't he be teaming up with other homeless people for safety in numbers and additional help? where's this community at?

Those people had a home and family before. But if you're rich you can buy a house for them if you want... Another option is they really have offered home for him and he simply didn't wanted it. Reality is too complex, simply judge people by one topic without knowing the whole background is silly.

I read about him that he had been planning to kill someone for some time and targeted a homeless person because he believed that they wouldn’t be missed. Boy, was he wrong. Turned out that Warren was immediately missed and a lot of people in the community cared about him. How senseless and heartbreaking.

Yeah, people tend to forget that homeless people are still someone's friend, someone's family. They are people. My sister's body was found on the 2nd in a makeshift tent in a field of trash. She became heavily addicted to meth and heroin, and chose to be homeless very quickly so she could focus solely on that. Her life was pretty tragic the last 15, she couldn't cope. But my mom never lost hope for her, even from 1500 miles away. People were keeping tabs on her for almost 4 years. Homeless people are people amd they are loved more than most people recognize.

There was a case not far from my house where this kid offed his parents, and all his friends knew he was planning it because he spoke about it. They would be alive today if his friends told on him.

I think it was deliberate. The first step in building rapport. If he's not showing signs of aggression, and not putting him in cuffs means he's more willing to divulge information about the murder as he hasn't been injured by police, I think it makes sense.
The scariest thing about this is that if this guy hadn’t been busted right after he did this, he definitely would’ve became a serial killer.
Though he was extremely sloppy with evidence, this doesn't feel like the first time he's killed.
