- 게시일 2019. 04. 01.
- Burger Scholar George Motz and Alvin Cailan are going on the ultimate regional burger road trip-which includes a pit stop to eat America's original hamburger. Motz is a veteran road warrior: he’s logged thousands of miles in his car chasing down burgers all over the country. For this episode, Alvin will be Motz’s co-pilot as he takes The Burger Show host to Central Connecticut, home to some of the most unusual burgers on the planet-as well as THE birthplace of the original hamburger, Louis' Lunch.

If you could go on a burger-focused vacation, where would you want to go?
Fucking mars
Every great burger place in L.A.
What a dumb ass question
Australia. They've taken the USA classic and ran with it in a way no other place could. Burgers there are just as much a primary culture as they are in America, but from a completely different evolution.

George: This burger comes from a special place predating the hamburger bun and made with ancient tools that have been preserved for over 200 years.
Alvin: Yo, this burger is da bomb, yo
rekor guy who loves the subject and is knowledgeable and charismatic > guy who’s just doing this for free food
Louis Lassen was the first man to make a Hamburger Sandwich.
They both love the subject, Alvin is hosting "The Burger Show" ffs. Just because the restaurant is old school doesn't mean the host has to act like he's from the same time period. I would argue it's the opposite, he needs to connect to his viewers more than the site he's reviewing.
@J. Professional bet you dont speak to people in real life like this
Gerard Cowan This is one of my favorite comments ever and I’m going to steal it. My only contribution is that Alvin is a professional chef and brings his own charisma to this show he hosts. George has his own thing going on- he IS an author, after all.
These two could really just host the burger show together.

Hey George, I'm from North Idaho in a small town called Coeur d'Alene. They have this burger joint that has been continuously running since 1908 I believe. It's called Hudson's Hamburgers. They were in USA today a few years back. They have quite the cult following. Very simple menu, burgers (fresh cut pickle, Vlasic) and slice of onion. NO FRIES! Hot ketchep/mustard if requested. If you ever make it up this way I'd be happy to show you around. Love the channel and keep the grease comin'!!
If you're ever in Pocatello go to Toms Gyros and get the Titanic Burger. It's a double bacon cheeseburger with gyro meat and it's my favorite burger of all time.

I know it's outside the "burger belt" and in an area that doesn't get much attention in general, but Hudson's Hamburgers in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is for me the best burger I've had. Has some of that same historical feel too - family owned and operated since 1907.

No disrespect to Alvin but I’m 100% convinced George should be the host of the burger show. He’s a much better personality/fit for this.
And Alvin probably has 24 hours to live considering his diet of hamburgers.

Invest in an iron skillet smash burgers take about the same time as a microwave. If you wanna trip people out make your own buns. Takes about an hour most of it inactive just chill on the couch and watch TV during the rest periods. People act like it's the craziest thing ever and really, the burgers are ten times better even though it's not the crazy effort people think it is.
I’m just here for the “concerned about Alvin’s health” comments

Because guess what? People that obese tend to bite the dust early for a gazillion HEALTH-related reason. Fact. Anyway, you can't help but notice!
Wow, fat shaming much! Its really non of your business how he looks and what he eats. No one, thin, fat or in-between, lives forever. If it bothers you, don’t watch. My apologies if someone died and left you boss .... no one sent me the memo. Have a great day everyone.

As a Connecticut native, this episode warms my heart.
River same bro
River big same
Huge same. I grew up just through the woods from Shady Glen. The original owners lived up the street at the top of the hill, my dad used to give one of my brothers or I $20 to just go through the woods, cross the road and grab a gallon of ice cream.
Jon Johnson the ultimate sleeper food, Shady Glen Ice Cream.
So incredibly good it can’t be put into words
Ted’s is awesome. So is Shady Glenn. I think Louis Lunch is the most overrated restaurant ever. I get that it’s a big deal that the burger was invented there, but cheese wiz and wonder bread simply doesn’t make the best burger in the world
I've learned so much in 3 weeks from watching George it's incredible. I've cooked burgers my whole teenage and adult life but now hearing his wisdom I've cooked some if the best burgers i ever have. Thank you. I want to travel the country now eating regional burgers
Absolutely love the burger scholar episodes, I would roll up through the burger belt and back down home to Texas. Keep up the good work, I am always looking forward to the show. Thank you guys for all the hard work.

I love george. His voice and sideburns are just sublime
I like George's reminder to let your local burger shack know what they mean to you. Running and staffing these places seems like tough and thankless work, but burgers are a quintessential part of Americana and although we're all super grateful, we probably don't express that gratitude enough.
As someone born and raised in CT I'm really excited to see this! Also I apologize on behalf of my fellows in CT... We can be jerks. That sign at Louis is there for a reason lol.
I heard Luis Lunch made some flavorless burgers, is that true? Maybe people like them that way amplified by the historical significance. But there is a reviewer on KRplus who went there and said it was bland.
@@kyleeaton2717 It's really about personal tastes but you are there for pure beef flavor. Nothing special can be something special in itself.
@@SmashServices I was just curious because at one point in time, idk if they still are but they were the worst reviewed restaurant in all of Connecticut.
@@kyleeaton2717 I haven't been in so long that between this awesome vid and those reviews it looks like I'm gonna be having a burger weekend to compare!
@@SmashServices Hey, if you do that and remember me, let me know!
Having lived in Meriden, CT, and being a burger junkie, I can confirm that all three of these places are amazing. Walking into Louis Lunch is like walking into an ancient temple devoted to the religion of the hamburger. If you are a disciple of the beef patty, you have to make the pilgrimage and pay your respects at some point in your life. Ted's steamed burgers are the juiciest, messiest burgers but they're so good that you will fight to keep it all together just so you don't lose a single morsel. And that melted cheese is glorious. As they noted in this episode, Shady Glen is like a living, breathing time capsule. You'll go for the fried cheese but you'll stay because the burgers, fries, and milkshakes are all incredible.
I love listening to this guy talk. After watching the first regional burgers episode I went out and got myself a cast iron skillet and now I just wish I had his book
Love the Nova Scotia callout at 1:24
Was just about to comment the same!
from England, this guy seems like a totally awesome American character, like he should be in Smokey and the Bandit or something
the broiled steak burgers my dad used to make at Sylvester's Restaurant back in the '70's were extraordinary. the quality and flavor was something beyond anything available today anywhere.
My friends and I road tripped up from Philly to try out these spots the other day. Shady Glen was definitely the best of the bunch. And we were surprised with how good Louis' Lunch was. Ted's was the weakest of the 3 but still not a bad burger. Thanks for this video for inspiring a burger filled day with friends!
Motz is like Bojack Horseman, but if you replaced the Alcoholism and existentialism with Burger facts.
The burger scholar is roughly 20 times the host alvin is
Steven Benfan I think so too, but I think him having someone to bounce off from is good too, if it was only him talking alone it would still be great, but I love the conversation format.
He used to have his own burger show too, but it got cancelled awhile back. I forget what channel it was on, but it was pretty good. They should give him another burger show himself.
Steven Benfan he should stick to eggslut
Alvin makes up for it by being 20 times the size
I’m from CT and personally I’d say Shady Glen is by far my favorite out of these 😍 I live about 15 minutes away from Manchester so I go there about once a week. Ted’s is really good too though. It was the first steamed burger I’ve ever had, and I loved it. These were all good choices to visit.
CT here too. My dad brought me to Ted's back in the 90's and it was super memorable.
I've been wanting to go up to Shady Glen for a while. We have friends in Tolland so maybe next time we visit them we'll stop there.
And I've still never gone to Louis Lunch despite living 20 mins from it and going to grad school right there.

I'd love to try it but I can't imagine I'd pick a steamed burger over a flattop cooked one on a regular basis. I could be wrong, never tried one, and it might blow me away with it's flavor, but there's something so great about a good crust on a burger.
JosephJamesScott believe me, Ted’s has a phenomenal burger. I wasn’t sure how it would be when I first tried it. But wow. It’s very different. If you really like burgers, you like a variety and it’s very different and it’s very good. Honestly one of the best burgers I’ve ever had

Louis lunch is such a good spot for burgers. The og burger joint. And I'm so hungry watching this.
I've been to Louis Lunch a few times when I was in New Haven last year. If you go, go during the day outside of a rush hour so you can sit and dont go after the bars. The burgers do suffer when they are jammed up but they are good outside of the rushes
