  • In episode 4, MythBusters Tory Belleci and Alvin Cailan are testing a burger robot. When Alvin first heard that Silicon Valley had built the world’s first fully automated burger robot, he knew he had to fly to San Francisco to see it with his very own eyes. Not only to taste the burger, but to race it head-to-head in a burger battle, man vs. machine. And he’s bringing along Tory Belleci to judge whether his years of cooking on the line will pay off.

      Irrelevant. Each Chef takes dozens of hours of practice to improve their craft.
      Also, you only need to design and build a robot once. After that, you can tell other robots how to do it, and they'll do it way faster.
      It's obvious that burger-making robots don't just create themselves without human help, but it's equally obvious that human chefs don't just instantly know how to cook great burgers from birth.

    • @spamfilter32
      @spamfilter32 4 년 전

      @@hampsterducktape I think your missing the point. That machine got to "practice" making that burger hundreds, if not thousands, of times before it had to make one for real. Alvin has never prepared that particular burger, so he had to keep referring back to the recipe. Let hem practice making that burger say a dozen times, then run the competition and he will go from start to finish with out ever looking at the recipe card, he won't burn the bun, etc.
      He might not beat the 5 minutes (in fact, I don't think he could), but he would cut a lot of time off his mark, and I doubt any one could tell the difference in a blind taste test. Also, it wasn't equal in that the robot was allowed to cook both sides of the burger at the same time, where as Alvin was only allowed to cook one side at a time. That is a big killer in this competition as cooking the meat alone must have taken at least 4 minuets.
      The Owner of the Robot is also overstating the loss of taste due to oxidation. There is not a single human on the planet that could tell the difference between a tomato that was sliced 5 minutes ago from one that was sliced 2 hours ago. So there is no reason why Alvin shouldn't be allowed to prep the tomato, onion and pre-measure the seasonings.

    This is interesting. You wouldn't grind the meat for each burgers individually. There has to be some prep done first which would make it much faster to make many burgers at the same time. Imagine a fast food chain where each burger takes 5 minutes to make... that'd be too long. That being said, I don't think it's possible to make such fresh burgers which that level of exactitude between each burgers in less time than that and when you think about it when people come back they expect to eat the same thing, this can't mess that up.
    So yeah I'm all in for burgers machines.

      Fast food restaurants are literally aiming for what this Robot does. they have systems in place so that robert in Florida makes the same big Mac as kenny in Colorado. They want every Burger that they make to be consistent throughout every single store the country. this robot does exactly that. I expect this to be the norm for every fast food restaurant now, it will lower-cost it would make a better product , fresher and it would just be more profit for them so I believe this is going to be the next wave.

If the competition was over let's say a day, Alvin would lose some time on prep first, but would probably make up some time on production. Like I said tho his burger wouldn't be has precise and identical from the robot so in the end even if he managed to do it faster it wouldn't have the same value.
