Imagine the frustration when you punch someone in the face and he laughs even louder with each hit
Bale was throwing real punches and Ledger took the hits to make the scene more authentic

My cousin Seth was like that. I never understood it but it infuriated his older brother who tried to hit him harder. It seemed like just a quirk he had but then he started doing heroin and stealing from my dying grandmother. No lie his childhood fucked his head up.
Batman is beating the hell out of Joker and still the Joker music plays in the background, so you know who is actually winning.
For me it was always catch some of the best parts of this scene and one I noticed is really how much the joker really is proving how Batman isn’t really getting anywhere with the joker
He’s taking and seeming to want all the hits he has so he could break

"You compleeeeete meeeee." So fucking good.
I swear it is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
His delivery on that was so genuine and perfect that I legit almost teared up because of the fact that we never got to see Ledger reprise his role of the Joker. He was genuinely the perfection representation of pre-Asylum Joker. The way he toys with Batman, yet at the same time has this obvious admiration for him and uses psychology to get into Batman's mind so easily.. chilling. Nobody will ever top this performance, and i honestly mean ever on screen. Hedger's life was taken too short because he is going to live on in history forever as the Joker. He probably absorbed this character deep down inside him while method-acting this role. Imagine he & Pattison sharing the screen together, seeing Pattinson's Batman lose his cool completely and snap as Joker gets inside his head and threatens the love of his life. MAN, we really missed out. Bale's performance in these movies, although arguably top 3 greatest actors of his generation, paled in comparison to Gary Oldman, Heath Ledger & eventually Tom Hardy's version of Bane.
Sorry for the long paragraph. I smoked some indica & suddenly had so much to say lol.
" *Where are they?* " Batman asked calmly.
I understood that reference
Did you put their names in the buildings of fire??
>>Batman: WHERE ARE THEY!
Very poor choice of words
Why did he say "they" when he was only aware of Dent in that moment?
Plot twist: Joker accidentally switched the addresses because he was fuzzy after all the hits he took
Naaah...
Nah,he's stronger than that anyway. He did it just to mess with Batman since he knew he would go after Rachel.
They missed your joke man
No. If he really was fuzzy.......he wouldn't have switched the addresses

Imagine being in a movie with Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and Gary fucking Oldman and still stealing the show in every scene you’re in.
This right here is the performance of the century.
Them - "You think you can just steal from us and walk away?!"
Ledger - "Yeah"
I just typed something similar above. This is the greatest on-screen performance of a character we will ever see, and that's no disrespect to Daniel Day Lewis. Ledger had to smash this role because of how important of a character Joker is, but he went above and beyond and immortalized himself with this performance. RIP to an absolute acting legend, Heath Ledger. Thank you for giving us one of the best superhero movies ever. Fuck, I can't believe he never got to reprise his role as the Joker.
This scene won Ledger the Oscar.
100%
I am afraid that, with all respect,if he was still alive, he wouldn't get an Oscar. Ledger's Joker isn't that well-written character and not that well-performed. Sure, younger viewers might kind of like him , specificlly for the same reason the older viewers will hate him. This Jokers lacks personality, he is not the Clown Prince of Crime anymore (think of Nicholson's Joker!). He is an ugly terrorist with no sense of humour, his monologues are veeeeeeery long, pointless and dull. Actually, he has no truly memorable words to speak... Batman does, Alfred does, Rachel does, Ra'as does.... even Bane. But Joker... he is just repulsive. But he lacks what a perfect villain has - the unique personality.
@@missstarrynight7736That is a horrendous take. Even if for some reason you believe his character was not well written, the way Heath Ledger brought it to life was as great as acting can get, and we would have absolutely won that Oscar either way.

The fact that Heath literally asked Bale to hit him as hard as he could for this scene, shows that dispite the injuries, he wanted to give the best performance that he and Bale had to offer to the audience and boy....did they pull it off amazingly. Heath is a legend
Younger people take for granted how "dark" and "seriously" and "mature" comic book movies can be these days. But I remember back in 2008 seeing this in theatre, and this was groundbreaking and shockingly bold and original. Nothing else was like this at the time.
Nothing else has been like this since either. This movie isn’t just incredible because of its darkness and maturity, it has a lot of lightning in a bottle elements in its acting, writing, direction, score, cinematography, screenplay, and gravitas that just simply can never be replicated again.
I completely agree. I just watched this movie for the first time a few days ago and I was absolutely blown away by everything. I know it's already been said a million times but Heath Ledger was ridiculously incredible in this movie. Christian Bale was great as Bruce Banner and Batman as well. This scene really highlights their insane acting capabilities and was extremely intense to watch, especially with the hair-raising soundtrack by Hans Zimmer rising in the background. I genuinely wasn't sure whether Batman would kill Joker here or not. That's how amazing the acting and overall construction of this scene was.
P.S.: Love your name and profile picture. Heather Mason is such a great character and your name is one of my favorite tracks by Akira Yamaoka.

He literally manipulated him to chose Dent over his ex-girlfriend.
He switched the address because joker knew batman would choose love over justice
he punished him for choosing love over justice. the joker knew that batman would save Rachel over dent so he switched them to trick batman. like that he destroyed batman's soul and kept dent alive to turn into two-face. it was a brilliant idea for his plan.
Thank you for explaining the scene I just watched. I totally didn't understand what was happening literally in front my very eyes
After seeing him throw himself from a penthouse to save her he knew he was going to go after Rachel, so he made a switch so that he could break both Batman and Dent (ideally). Batman wasn't interrogating Joker, it was the other way around, Joker was checking how he would react.
by switching address, either way Batman chose, he will not get what he wants. Maybe this could mess with batman's mind. and Joker is trying to drag batman into madness or the level he is at ?
"You have nothing...nothing to threaten me with." Such an epic line, Batman really was powerless against the Joker.

Well he doesn’t but it can seem compelling. The one line of dialogue I find disjointed is “they’re only as good as the world allows them to be”. From my understanding that implies the police and law enforcement have a pure and righteous ideology on an individual level that can’t be realized because of the society they exist in. Perhaps that’s true in Gotham but certainly not in this world. Insofar as he is referring to the film’s reality, part of the corruption that led Gotham to become a haven of crime was corruption that had to exist in every level of law enforcement including the people he suggests “are only as good as the world *allows* them to be.

One of the best movies ever
It’s really strange how Joker almost idolizes Batman.
@Flambo Fire I don't think he's annoyed by it, but definitely amused. In his mind he believes that everyone is corruptible and is having fun chipping away at Batman's moral code. It's kind of like how it feels good to win in an argument with an opposing viewpoint. Plus, joker can only be the best version of himself with the existence of batman and he knows it (obviously as joker himself said "you complete me"). Thus, I wouldn't say that it pisses him off, he believes it's just a matter of time before batman breaks and is just enjoying the ride.
@@edwinleechuanhao He is amused by him cuz he thinks Batman is naive. He talks to him like he is a little child teaching him about humanity. He is doing this to Dent also. Joker is suprised in a good way that somoene like Batman exists that he is willing to die for his principles. He knows he can't break him that much he is certain so what he is doing in the whole movie is teaching Batman a lesson that humanity is not worth his sacrifice.
actually that's kinda true. When joker said "don't talk like you're one of them, you're not" he meant about everyone wants to have control over others, just like the government, the laws, controlling the people in the name of a made-up bullshit "peace and justice" (or atleast that's what the joker thinks). On the other side,it's the batman. The only thing similar between him and the joker is they are not under this so called system and even if they want to be, they can't. So joker admires' how he decides to work outside the system, a vigilante, but it's just that he doesn't like the work he does.
He doesn't idolize Batman, he just loves having an enemy, a nemesis, someone who embodies the opposite of what he is.
I wouldn’t say he idolized him but he’s definitely intrigued by him. Probably because he sees someone who reminds him of himself; a person larger than humanity, with a mind and moral code that’s totally different from the rest of the population. So he obviously wants to poke and prod that and find out how far it can go

No body is civil anymore
They all ate each other
Because of heath ledger
"People yell at each other"
This *joke* just seems *wrong*
This scene alone is better than modern Hollywood movies.
It's crazy how joker was able to turn the conversation to a personal level
I don’t know why, but whenever I watch this movie and see Joker, I don’t even see Heath Ledger, I just see the Joker. Personally I think this is the best cinematic variation of the joker.
Agreed sad he passed. Would've loved to see him reprise his role. Take on bane lol
You say you don't even see Heath, they reckon he was never the same after this, he put too much of himself away to portray the joker and never fully came back from it.
@@develynseether4426 that's a myth. If you watch interviews of Heath talking around and after the time he shot this movie he is functioning seemingly well mentally. His problems were separate from the role.
I thought Phoenix was better personally. But Ledger still did an amazing job.
@@Lukeler1138 Heath and Phoenix's Joker characters couldn't BE more different.
What honestly scares me about this scene is how calm the joker is and his confidence.
krplus.net/bidio/iNZog35qaWe7lno
Definitely brother!
To make it worse all of the stunts were actually done by heath ledger and not cgi
@Jeffro Lans what scares me isn’t him the person, but the fact that he was low key right on everything he was saying lol.
It is a little creepy
"He's in control. " Gets me every time.
"Well, depending on the time, he may be in one spot or several."
Via blown to pieces 😮
Title is wrong, It should be Joker interrogating Batman

I like that the Joker knows Batman better than Batman knows the joker. He also ends up being partially right. Batman not only broke his one rule he then was complicit in the lie to cover it up therefore dipping his toe into corruption. Not only that but he is outcast as a part of the coverup so they do turn on him and hunt him.
i can honestly watch this performance however many times, this is just mindblowing acting and directing. top class, no shenanigans.

Yup Ik he told bale to not pull the punches
@@christianholt2899 nah he actually got hit during the movie he wanted to be authentic in a sense.
What's so inherently joker about that fact, is that heath definitely took the pain he felt in those punches and put it into that laugh. Truly haunting stuff
@@Haydon.F. I think that was actually Ledger's fetish. Being repeatedly punched. Or maybe he suffered from CIPA. Or maybe he took some painkillers prior to filming this scene.
@@Tom_Stevens617 I mean, I'd say it was dedication to the craft hahahaha but good take 😂😂
Still a masterclass of a scene showcasing the sheer psychotic-ness of joker.

Joker is a sociopath. But he makes alot of valid points throughout the movie.
Both Batman and Joker see themselves as revolutionaries in this movie, they both even have similar philosophies that society and the status quo needs to change hence why their both enemies of the same people, their methods is the difference.
he is a bloody cynic
he’s more of a realist than a sociopath
He's crazy not stupid....
Ace I agree. He isn’t so much crazy as he has removed the wool from his eyes so to speak. His methods are nasty but you can feel for this man. What I find interesting is how active all the joker scenes on KRplus are. People keep coming back to these scenes. Maybe for a catharsis. It’s interesting that reality doesn’t deliver yet this movie can, and that’s coming from someone who thinks Hollywood is a complete joke
This scene shows The joker was the strong mentally but weak physically. The Batman was strong physically but weak mentally.
"The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules"
Heath Ledger (JOKER)
Fun fact: Heath Ledger wanted Christian Bale to really punch him to make the scene/the moment more realistic.
Christian Bale is terrible in all Batman movies.
Black Panther is 5x better than The Dark Knight.

Saying “You have nothing to threaten me with, nothing to do with all your strength “ while getting beaten up, is a freaking powerful gesture

@@nickmartinka679and he will lost both of them eventually
It's so accurate too. Watching this you knew there was nothing Batman could do to intimidate him at that point. What a fantastic character. One of the best I've ever seen.
“Depending on the time, he may be in one spot or several” how clever of the joker and what a performance by heath. Legendary
One thing i just realized about this scene is basically, Joker forced batman to choose who to kill, after all "Killing is making a choice" and batman chose 4:48
“To them you’re just a freak….like me”
Best Joker line.
Even though Batman saves and protects innocent people and helps Gotham police. They’re still afraid of him and still treat him like a violent lunatic just like The Joker.
Genau das ist das Problem der Hufeisentheorie!
True. But that's a part of Batman's game. He want people to fear him, that's why he wears a freakin bat suit that makes him look like a demon and terrorize criminals.
batman *is* a lunatic though lol
Gotham is literally sewer shit without batman
When Joker was hurt when someone called him a freak in a previous scene, it shows in this scene that the Joker feels a genuine emotional bond with Batman.
It’s funny how at “3:30” he was actually mocking Batman’s voice, best joker ever
XD
Nice observation, lol
Never noticed it before
thank you
Lol I thought he was talking like that because he was straining under batman's fists 😂 props for figuring it out 👌🏻
Shit I think Heath would actually make an excellent Batman Who Laughs just imagine it
I feel like the joker is the most honest he ever is in this scene despite the fact he lies to batman about the locations he really doesnt think he is a monster he just does not believe in meaning or morality at all
This Movie was a masterpiece
I don't think there's ever gonna be a Batman Joker scene that will top this scene ever. The intensity, acting, tension all on point, an absolute masterpiece
A masterpiece
Well yea there won’t be since ledgers gone 😭
Never ever my friend
The thing is, every batman movie can try and will try to do a scene like this. But honestly this scene, especially because of Heath, will always be better.
if you ever listened to the music score it starts to turn up a lot with the joker. it amplifies when the intensity gets worse. watch this scene and notice how it changes.
If i was batman:
Joker: Reveals hostage locations
Me: storms out to save best friend instead
Me: Gets on batcycle
My brain: Forgets locations already
Me: "Shit."
*goes back*

also the theme in the background is joker's theme showing that the joker is in control
