Can we just appreciate William Fichtner as the bank manager with the shotgun? He's on screen for less than 2 minutes and somehow manages to make his character one of the most memorable in the entire film.
They casted him as a nod because this scene was directly inspired by the bank heist in Heat, where he causes the job to go awry as well.

I know this isn't the place to say what I'm about to say, but I need help. Currently, I'm in an institute to learn English, and to be honest, I'm not very talented, but I'm making an effort to learn. It's been almost two months since I entered the institute, but just going once a week isn't enough to improve my language skills. I'll start watching videos to build grammatical foundations and increase vocabulary. However, the help of a native speaker is essential; I can't overlook it, especially since I'm not like others who learn easily. It takes more effort for me, as my talent isn't much, and I struggle with self-esteem and nerves. Therefore, I need to speak with a native speaker for corrections and conversation topics. For now, I'll only chat to master vocabulary and grammar first, then work on listening and pronunciation. I need someone who not only speaks the language but also speaks it correctly and can explain a few things to me. Obviously, I translated all of this.

Very memorable opening scene. Perfectly sums up the Joker’s character, an anarchist who creates chaos even amongst his own followers.
15 years ago today, this fantastic film changed cinemas forever. The best trilogy we all know of today.
Not even close to being the best trilogy. The Dark Knight is a masterpiece surrounded on one side by a good movie (begins) and a mediocre movie (rises).

Can we just appreciate the acting in this? These guys had to convey personality without any facial expression whatsoever, and they do it perfectly.
You can tell that each of these guys isn't just a faceless soldier like in so many movies, instead they seem like a team of people who don't care about each other but have incentives to work together anyway.
The music helps with the intensity as well
@@g.williams2047 I don't think they were a team. Just professional bank robbers recruited by the joker that were not crazy enough to follow him with the rest of his plans so he had no use for them. Arguably, these henchmen were his best ones.
For me those were the only actors that didn't cut into the movie. It feels poorly performed and looks like a school proyect. All the scenes with the robbers only in them are pretty badly acted.

That shotgun that the Joker took when he was getting on the bus, is actually the same shotgun he used in Bruce's penthouse, while looking for Harvey Dent. Little things like that is what make this movie so amazing.

The cinematography in this film is unmatched, especially at 0:09 where joker is just sitting in the middle of the street as the citizens are going about their day, completely oblivious to the chaos that will affect Gotham for the next 8 years

It's amazing that he was 62 when he appeared here as the robber with the alias Grumpy, the one with the most dialogue in the scene.
This opening scene does a great job establishing how smart this Joker is and how he can fix the plan when things go south. The original plan was probably that robber who got killed by the bus would be killed by the one who was shot by the manager, but because the manager killed that guy, Joker lies about how many shots the manager has left in his gun, hoping the next shot would kill that robber, which it didn’t. This causes that robber to figure out that everyone would get killed so there’s be less shares when he talks to the vault opener who had just killed the alarm guy before coming down, so when he confronts Joker, Joker positions him into the position where the bus would enter, which kills him. You can’t deny that this is a genius criminal.

You gotta feel for the other actors playing the bank robbers, such a great opening scene to a legendary movie and none of them got to show their faces.

It's perfect, until you realise that the guy which was opening the safe door was hit by 5000 Volts and he stood alive. Now it's not that perfect as you think cause nobody could survive that high voltage

The problem was that DC tried to double down on it by making everything The Dark Knight without understanding how much work Nolan put into it.

The level of craft, tension, character introduction and even subtle humour is fucking phenomenal -- and I'm not even mentioning the visual praise this scene deserves.

I agree. The Batman’s opening wasn’t nearly as good or epic as this one. It didn’t immediately immerse you into the experience like The Dark Knight did. It takes the next scene to do that. Not saying The Batman was bad because I thought it was fantastic, but I still prefer The Dark Knight to it and the opening scene is one of those.

Heath ledger has been my idol since I was 6. His acting is the most breathtaking thing I’d ever seen. I am truly so proud of every time I see his films. Heath’s performance especially as Joker was indescribable, he absolutely deserved that award. Rest well Buddy. I love You.

Starting at 4:15, your first thought may be that Joker is walking towards the bank guy just to antagonize him, but you probably didn't notice that Joker stole his shotgun.
Then, when Joker crashes the dinner party later in the film, he's wielding the shotgun he stole from the bank. Really cool attention to detail.

He also uses said shotgun during the Batpod sequence when he shoots the armored vehicle that Harvey is in. I noticed he basically used that shotgun throughout the film.

These guys are covered in masks but are still so great at acting. You can tell there every expression without their faces, and the acting is raw. Christopher Nolan created a beautifully crafted scene in this movie.

@Error 404 infinity war doesn't hold a candle to this. This scene was DC prime.
It took me forever to figure out how genius this plan was. He eliminated the rest of the crew, meaning he wouldn't have to worry about getting snitched on. He took care of the head guy, meaning he would be useless to the mob. He definitely made the mob aware of his presence. Blended in so perfectly that the cops would never even question him. And because he was basically unknown (at this point in the movie) Batman basically let's him get away with it by saying he is more interested in the mob. Jokers first move was big and he basically got away with it to fund the rest of his plans. And biggest of all: this is what started the mob to be desperate to need his help. He created a problem that he already had a solution to.
I agreed with all of this except, was this really his first move, or was this just the first move we got to see in the movie?

In this regard, he is much like 99% of politicians in how he operates.
By having the bus come in, he was also able to actually get all the money out even without the extra manpower, since people often forget that large quantities of money are very heavy. He still could have waited to kill a couple of them, since it looked like they left a lot of money behind

I still go back to this. One of the best heists done in cinema, and it wasn't even the main focus. Amazing intro to a movie, amazing directing, amazing pacing, and everything in between was just perfect. Honestly one of my favorite scenes in any movie ever.

Tayyab Khan If we’re talking only in the film, he used it to negotiate with the Chechen later in the movie. But he most likely fueled some of his other criminal ventures with the money. Rocket launchers and all that shit later in the movie.
@@TayyabKhan-hh6kx He used the money to hire men for his gang to carry out his crimes. Before he had to remain mysterious and fraud others with fake promises but with the money he can do whatever he wants, hire whoever he wants, and buy whoever he wants.
Also it's the mobs money therefore making it illegal and dragging the mob into the spotlight with the cops and Batman.

I remember the first time I watched this movie in theaters and even with my tiny 10 year old brain, I knew I was watching something special. I got it on DVD and watched this movie AT LEAST 100 times afterwards. It's now 2024 and I'm 25 years old and this movie is still the masterpiece it's always been.

At 2:47, when Joker's looking at the bank employee with the shotgun laying bleeding on the floor, you can see (even behind the mask!) a moment of realization. I think it's that exact moment that he gets the idea for the ferry dilemma we see later in the movie.
