The people running the bridge shut down the vehicle traffic very quickly. They must have a very well trained safety protocol.

WHY" wasn't there tug boats assistance til that ship reached open water"!
That has been my question the whole time. This doesn't make sense.
Good point🤔🤔
Only local pilot required.
The tugs only help dock and that’s how it always goes.
Once a 100,000 ton ship is underway a tug can do next to nothing.
Think about it a tug pushes are right angles to a basically stationary ship.
One a ship is underway a tug is using most of its energy just to keep up and can only push at a very acute angle
A small tug can do next to nothing to change course of a 100, 000 ton ship once under way.
It’s the local pilots job not a tug.
The bridge didn't fall down, it was knocked down.
Duh
TRUTH. ON PURPOSE

Right, like every other time this has happened I suppose?
Prayers to everyone. I hope the truth comes out. God bless America
The US needs to fine the ships owners and operators $464 million dollars and they must pay it in 10 days or the ship must go back to its port of origin to be unloaded and it can never ever port in the USA again!

Do you want to talk about supply chain problems now

Most say not more than small inconvenience will be the bulk of it.
Sure! It's strange and unnecessary for the bridge collapse to have a major long-term impact on ship traffic in/out of Baltimore Harbor. At a minimum, within a week, a competent salvage crew could clear a 500-ft section of bridge wreckage from the deepest part, and set up buoys to mark navigable lanes for ships entering and exiting the harbor. Union labor is probably the biggest obstacle here.

@TurboAcura2 what?
That Ship failed Inspection over & over.. back in 2016 for the same exact issues , electrical & mechanical.. said it was unfit for sea worthy. Also it has been in numerous accidents. Owners of that ship are held accountable!
Agreed.
This is a complete lie. The ships inspection records are public. The last inspection was in September and no major issues were found at that time.
Same ship had an accident in my country in 2016….
No sorry chum you are talking bollocks. For a start a serious failure would see them not being able to leave port. Secondly, they are public record.
We are not talking about a local boat in and out of a third world harbour but an international trading vessel.
When did they mention the part about the construction workers??
It looks like the ship took a hard turn right into the pillar.
It lost power and in turn lost rudder control. The wind and current pulled the vessel south and you can see the smoke which means they were trying to reverse it
Shifting the props into full reserve might have caused the ship to veer one way or the other.
The vessel, managed by the Synergy Marine Group, was briefly held in Chile last June over a propulsion issue, according to a spokesperson for the Chilean Navy. Ships managed by the Synergy Marine Group have been involved in at least three deadly incidents since 2018 in Australia, Singapore and the Philippines, according to officials in those countries
Great job with the rescue! It's also worth noting that the Coast guard was right there as well and they did a great job❤
There is no way 140,000 workers were told to stay home today! The businesses are not going to just shut down. Everything on the oceanside of that bridge is stull functioning normally and those on the inland side will be scrambling to move their products by truck, train and plane!
The ship lost power causing it to drift out of control.

Im so sorry for the families of those lost.thankful this didnt happen during rush hour.
What is most disturbing is the lack of information on what company caused this huge problem and the captain of this ship and what penalty or fine they will incur. This is becoming a norm for cargo containers ramming fixed / stationary objects around world.
Yes, I see it happen daily😮 and it just happened yesterday. lol. I think they have a lot of info already.
And how will all that help the families ? Blame blame blame. It was a malfunction that caused a loss of power, worst case scenario all seamen are trained to deal with but it rarely ends well. Large ships have inertia and it doesn’t stop easily. Blame god it was an act of god.
Um, it is. And at this point, you aren't privy to that information. It's a ship from Singapore, it had a shaky inspection in Chile... Chile isn't the u.s. , just in case you think the world follows your laws, they don't. Maybe Baltimore should have implemented the added safety measures, they declined because it cost too much money... all those special programs were more important. And reading wasn't one of them.
You want them to post all the information on Twitter or Facebook less than 24 hours after it happened? The NTSB will gather all of the information during their investigation and release at the appropriate time. And what evidence do you have that suggests this is the “norm”?
@@christyann1201you see cargo ships running into bridges daily???
It’s going to take 2 years to build another bridge..not including taking down the old bridge
I'm just wondering if they will build another trust bridge with the fact a pillar could be hit again and the same thing happening? I also wondering what water safety was setup in place before ships approached the bridge and was it adequate enough?
We should build up sand bars around the supports. Less likely to damage the ship. Easier to see than bumpers or rails in the water. We already use them as maritime navigation. Also if the ship is a run away it will stop it so smaller vessels can board to fix the problem if needed
We have us a Trump University engineer over here.
synagogue, tunnel, children😭
And the current wouldn’t effect the sand?
We should just make our own stuff here then we wouldn't need sand barriers and to protect foreign ships from crashing in to our bridges bringing foreign junk in to our country. But bridge was old and cheaply built

One bridge that got knocked down won't impact the whole country. Only local
A bridge collapse in of itself no. But when that bridge blocks a major shipping port it's a whole different story. It's one of the biggest vehicle and equipment ports in the country. I've personally picked up several excavators, (farm) tractors, boom lifts, bucket lifts, and a pavement compaction roller, ect... there at the Dundalk port.
I was supposed to deliver something there this morning for export but was rerouted and delivered to a nearby warehouse instead due to that bridge blocking the only way in/out of the port. It's going to have an impact that will be felt across the country. And will have a much greater impact for the local economy.
Shipments will be rerouted, but will other nearby ports be able to handle the influx? How fast will the channel be cleared and normal port operations resume? Ships waiting to get in can reroute but how many are stuck at the port? Can their cargo be rerouted? Will the cargo go bad before it can be delivered? Not all the cargo there is equipment/cars and could potentially spoil....
So many unanswerable questions...
Terribly built bridge.
Trump University engineering school graduate 😂😂😂
? Umm. Ok
That was a nearly 50-year-old bridge with an estimated more than 11 million vehicle crossings annually. It was not designed to withstand a 116,000+ ton (that's more than 232 million pounds) ship ramming one of its main supports. 🤦🏻♂️
Such a dumb comment. No bridge is meant to take a direct hit from a ship.
@user-cp9lz9pt8b where did president trump hurt you?
Where were the tugboats that guide the ship.. this is not a boat..!
They did their job by getting the ship into the sea lane. Tugboats have no control over a ships power supply though. Informed and educated people know these things.....try that next time. 🤡🤡
Tugboats only pull it out a short distance.
@@toplarry you might know more about the industry than me.. but I traveled Bridges all the time and I have never seen a cargo ship go through a tight spot without tugboats.. it was said that that ship had electrical problems and had been sitting for a couple of days why would they authorize it to leave ( at night) if it had electrical problems..! What was the exact distance of the ship from the bridge when it realized it had electrical problems again! And why did not the ship immediately drop anchor when it realized that it had an electrical problem!? Whoever authorized that ship to leave and that ship captain should be arrested for negligence! Maybe even second degree deletion.! The story doesn't add up it's too many negative variables here!
