I’m South African living in the USA. When I tell Americans that South African Malls are fancier and more convenient than USA malls and that I haven’t come across a mall in New York or Boston ( I lived in both places) that’s nicer than SA malls they think I’m lying. One time I went to a mall next to my place called my Mom in SA to show her the mall and her reply was “why nkare oko di firm’eng Nthabi 😂.She couldn’t believe that’s a mall in the states and she added that even South Gate mall looked better. Lesson learned since I moved to the US, grass is not always greener on the other side hence African Americans are moving to SA, SA is not bad guys , you realize that once you move. Fact : South African architecture and interior design is way better and fancier than US, although in America everything is huge, Huge houses, Huge Buildings but they lack that modern feel.

The US moved away from malls a long time ago. You live there. Most of the stuff in your house was delivered by truck. Not 🚫 by you going physically to the mall to buy it. Malls ceased to be a symbol of 'development' ages ago. Except in wannabe places...including Dubai, especially.

You wont need an AC here... It might get hot outside but its always cool inside... Our buildings are brick and mortar, and also concrete... these materials dont insulate heat... timber holds on to heat... concrete does not hold on to heat so even if its hot concrete will be pretty much cool as long as its under shade

Great as always. One thing you will soon realise about South Africa is that we are not trying to be the best in Africa when we do things but we are trying to be the best in the World and our Geography (climate, landscape, biodiversity, human diversity profile) gives us an edge in persuit of this.
    1. The first heart transplant in the whole world was done in this country (Not USA, Not UK, Not Germany Not Russia, Not Japan here in SA.
SA is a country of so many firsts that sometimes shocks people. South Africa is twice the size of France England is about the same size as one of its provinces( Eastern Cape) yet there is a fairly even distribution of infrastructure across all 9 provinces from towns to smaller cities to cities to city regions to the megapolis of Jozi, Durban and Cape Town.

There are a variety of different English accents in South Africa. What you guys heard was Afrikaans-English, which is frowned upon by the Conservative-English speakers, who are form British descent & spoken by the more wealthy English upper classes. There are over 100 distinct accents total which could be simplified down to about 3 or 4 main dialects. Black people from wealthier parts who go to private schools & speak in a distinctly different manner than those who don't.

And can I add that you get different Afrikaans-English accents in SA depending on where you are in the country and as stated where they went to school as well as race. Remember there are white Afrikaans speaking people and coloured Afrikaans speaking people (let me just clarify that in SA coloured does not mean a black person amd is not offensive as in America it is an actual race, where in America any person of colour is called black here its not the same) I learned quickly while working in the US a while back that calling someone coloured is VERY offensive and a huge no. I actually heard Trevor Noah say Americans keep telling him not to call himself coloured😂PS. I realise it might be the loudness and brasness of Afrikaans white people that make you think the accent sound Australian and we hear that a lot from other countries but we hate it as we are South African and in a lot of sports like cricket and rugby Australia is one of our biggest oponents. Its like calling Americans British or Jamaican 😂

My husband and I are in the US at the moment for a working trip of 3 months. Many people asked me if we are Australian.
One thing I can maybe add about the development of our country is that the SA Rand was stronger than the US dollar in the 80's (1 Rand to 2 dollar) until the US put sanctions against SA due to apartheid. Maybe that can be a contributing factor that SA is quite developed. What I appreciate about SA is the divirsity of cultures. There are so much warmth in the divirsety. The only thing that hinders it is the political agendas that are pushed. But I think all the cultures are wonderful and amazing. I don't want to live in any other country.

That's so true. I compared some roads in Utah, Saltlake city for example and I personally found that SA had some very good and better and attractive roads generally that Utah. Hollywood had a way of selling us the image that everything is gold in the US including the roads.......I remember Trump saying even the airports of Qatar are shaming those of the US. In saying so, I do concede that the US is a more powerful country overall than South Africa, but its not a perfect country made of pure gold. Other areas other countries are better.

Mpumulanga as well can get quite hot in the summer - if you're visiting Kruger/God's window but it's ok if you're inside.

It's much better to come here during our autumn (which is your spring). Roughly from March to May, when the weather is the best, depending on where you go. Even February is a great month in which to visit. Cape Town has the nicest weather in February and March.

Interesting to hear the perspectives of visitors/ex pats to 🇿🇦, which is great. South African accents - don’t get me started. I am an English speaking South African of mostly British descent and would never have thought Afrikaans speaking folk sound Australian🤔, not slightly more Dutch? Comparing us English speakers vs Afrikaans speakers, especially those of us who grew up speaking either language, our “mother tongues”, we definitely have differing accents, but we do use the same slang (actually any South African regardless of race or background knows the same slang that’s for sure!).
I actually grew up in Zimbabwe but have been living in South Africa since I left high school over 30 years ago but my Mother and sister, who now live in England tease me about my (English)South African accent and say I have lost my (English) Zimbabwean accent! The first time I met an Irishman working in Zimbabwe, I asked him if he was Scottish🤣. Accents are are so interesting. Through the years I have generally learned differing accents around the word, but my husband still can’t tell the difference for example between an American or a Canadian, or even between an Australian or a Kiwi - we all speak English but yet quite differently!
Despite our problems, there is so much potential here…..

You guys really got that x-factor thing going in presenting your content, like no others, so i keep coming back.
Yep, you guys do like your food and your thinking Afrikaans speaking folk sound Australian is funny, but understandable. You might eventually also discover that as we are a country with various languages some black folk in certain areas will speak Afrikaans as their preferred language (up in the Northern areas) and of the multiple peoples there are accents that vary based on the tribe and/or region. Linguistically speaking we have such a rich environment that in spite of the differences somehow works for all South African people in that now famous ubuntu spirit.
Can't wait until you pick up more of the languages, even just the basics. There's another episode or more in that for you guys to make.

AC isn’t that much of a thing back home in SA and I got to understand why it is a necessity here in the States. It hit 38 degrees Celsius in my first week in Washington DC and it was insanely humid outside. Being indoors was better than the outside because you breath the same air as if you were in a sauna out there 😢😂 Back home you escape to being outdoors instead as air the is still breathable outdoors during summer.

Hey fam, apperently we're gonna be experiencing a very hot summer, farmers have been warned to expect draughts and I see heat waves have already started in Australia so yeah get some mosquito repellent and open windows to get the cross breeze. But I think we're generally outdoorsy people so we generally just sit out in the garden or stoop in summer, unless you're in an apartment complex. I think you're gonna appreciate the dry air in summer because you won't be sweating as muc. II have a feeling that you'll also enjoy Mozambicans and Nigerian food

@FREEDOMCHASERSLIFE This might be the same Woolworth's chain that was popular in the U.S. in the 80s and many years before. They were everywhere and sold a bit of everything. Then they just left the US and we thought they went out of business but maybe not. I'm sure you can Google 'Woolworth's in the US' if you're interested. I used to love that store; brings back memories and I'm telling my age now lol. Loving your videos by the way!
