I said the same thing. The Series X looks like my Spectrum modem/router combo that I got last month. I literally had to run to my living room just to make sure that the new Xbox that I was seeing on my iPhone wasn’t really the modem/router sitting in my living room.

Good question. Another good question would be can you use a control yoke and rudder pedals or a joystick to fly aircraft? I my opinion, it is just unnatural to control aircraft with an Xbox controller. I've tried it on my PC, it feels so weird.

So far, I personally love everything about it except I find the name to be a glaring flaw.
My theory is that Series X will be the highest power and Series S will be the lower powered going forward and each Series will get updated hardware every 5 years and a numerical add-on (Series X2, X3, etc.) with full backward compatibility in perpetuity, sort of like Windows machines.
The Name is XBOX. the Series is called X. its the Premium Device in a product Line. Like with phones, cars.

@@wikz8480, it was just an idea. I also don't mean a generation, I mean they don't have a generation, they just have a series of consoles that are an upgrade to the last, but games run on them all. It's not hard to imagine and it's quite plausible as Xbox is just a stripped down Windows console, so it's not hard to ask devs to make their games run on all the consoles.

Idc what the PS4 stans say. I love Microsoft for their push for accessibility and compatibility. Not at all. These will be underclocked to hell, binned and allowed to run "hot" . Navi tjmax is 110c, Ryzen is 95c. While you may call anything above 50/60/70/80 too hot depending on personal preference they can let it run 80/90 and be fine.

It's confirmed that it can be placed vertically or horizontally, just like all precious Xboxes after the original. It's a good and convenient feature that means it will fit into more places (cabinets, etc.) I like the boxy design with no space wasted on extraneous curves. It is an Xbox, after all. You're all making fun of it being tall, but it looks imore sturdy upright than previous vertical Xboxes and the joke that the console is tall will be on you as soon as you see it turned to it's side. I've had my Xboxes vertical and horizontal at different times in different places. Being able to position it both ways was often a major space saver, letting me use vertical space to minimize footprint or go horizonal to slip it onto a narrow shelf or get it down and out of the way. I really like the form of the new Xbox.
I'm impressed so far and look forward to seeing gameplay. Even interactive tech demos. There's a big difference between gameplay and cutscenes, even if they're rendered in real time (which what we've seen may or may not be). I just bought an Xbox One X this year. D'oh! Looks like they've decided to suppress console sales a bit this holiday season, since they've now told us that consoles will be arriving next year. I'm glad backwards compatibility is on board, so we can play previous gen games with at least all the enhancements available on Xbox One X, and probably more.

It’s looks like a smaller PC. And I have an Xbox x and it doesn’t make any sound I doubt this will make any sound or produce any more heat than the Xbox X. And most likely the “pro” version of the series x will have cooling comparable to a combustion engine (with internal cooling) and coolant type liquid. If you think it looks bad, I can’t wait to see what you say about the PS5 🤣

Looks cool standing up! Could be some really awesome limited edition versions possible art work etc on the tower. One concern is space issues . Yes I know it goes sideways but it was designed to stand. We all know heat rises. I believe the fan on the top will loose cooling performance sideways. Just a thought. It will run on the one x too but with the fidelity the console is capable of. thanks to the Gamecore Program they can adjust the games for previous generations, but the premium exerience will be on XBOX Series X, because of the GPU and CPU Power that it offers.

Fuck no. Rechargeable batteries require replacing eventually and can’t change out when they need to be recharged. I can always have a pair of AA batteries on hand to keep on gaming. If my PS4 controller dies, I have to stop gaming to charge it.0

Brauk Wood I never use disposable batteries. I use rechargeable AA batteries. And no, I don’t game for that long. Often times I forget or don’t care to charge my controller and rather having to deal with a setback, I rather just pop in some charged AA batteries that I keep stored than wait 30 minuted for the lithium battery to charge in the controller. Plus, keeping the AA battery design is better because it prevents the controller from shrinking too much. The 360 rechargeable battery pack was literally just rechargeable AAA batteries that they were scamming people.

I personally like the design. My downstairs living room has an asymmetrical look, so being able to have a matte black tower towards a side balances out the asymmetry. (Interior design coming to use 😂)
What I really want to know about Xbox Series X, is it's storage. The storage of the Xbox One is a pain in the ass because you have to install each game. I am only able to have 5-8 games installed on it at one time. And keep on having to uninstall games to install new ones. I hope the storage is like the Xbox 360 where you can just put in a game and play, and have the saved data for the game saved on the console, so you can continue from where you left off. I never had to worry about storage space and having to install/uninstall/reinstall games on Xbox 360.That is what I want for Series X storage.

Sadly there is no way we are going back to plug and play directly from the disc anymore. However I have heard that microsoft is moving to SSDs, and I think they are NVME drives, which are absurdly fast, very small and power efficient. So installation should be significantly faster. In addition I heard that you will be able to stream and play the first chunk of the game while installation happens in the background, which then switches to local when it finishes.

I can only have 5-8 games installed on my Xbox One at one time so I can play them by just putting in the disc and start playing. If there isn't enough space for a new game I have just gotten, then I have to make space by uninstalling a game, thereby taking away my ability to just pop in that game and start playing. But can now do so with the new game I installed in the previous games place.
Games will only continue to get larger every generation.
DVD9 was the last disc type that allowed insert and play right away. Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray discs will never achieve that instant pop in and play. Too much data stored on the disc that installation is mandatory. That's why next-gen consoles are FINALLY using NVME SSDs most likely PCIe 4.0 speeds.
The SSDs will most likely only be 1TB because judging how this current gen has primarily used 1TB mechanical HDDs which are dirt cheap to buy on their own, SSDs are still expensive by comparison so no way will they ship consoles with 2TB SSDs. I'll be shocked if that happens.
