Probably because the advertising was spot on, it caught a lot of peopleโs attention and probably got us into some of Gltichโs previous works to see what these guys and gals are capable of (Me personally I fell in love with Murder Drones) and since those projects were amazing, it sparked an audience whoโs incredibly excited for this show. I guess thatโs also what a good team of animators, voice actors, and writing gets you
I like how Caine fundamentally doesn't understand why everyone wants to leave, and tries to make the "exit" part of the map.
Or more accurately that Caine cannot comprehend the concept of an outside world or conceptualize it, so all he can do is recreate it based off what the others tell him. He has some loose understanding that there is an "outside world" where humans come from, but he doesn't really understand where it is in relation to him, or how they get in to his world. He's an AI and to him, the Circus IS his universe.

Yeah, Caine is literally part of the Digital Circus. He has no idea how to leave because Caine himself is not supposed to leave. He can't help them escape.

I think heโs stayed sane because of the character shown at 9:46. A queen character that got abstracted (I believe). Something tells me heโs trying to live for them and he clings to that
Well we donโt know if heโs the first, we only know that heโs probably been there the longest out of all the humans in the current cast. But considering there was a queener? Charecter, who looked just like kinger, they might have joined at the same time, which could have been a while ago.
You can also tell there were a lot of former characters by all the rooms
Jax seems so goofy and nonchalant at first, but the cracks in his character betray a sense of just how angry he is to be trapped in the Digital Circus. He cares a lot about his friends, but has become so jaded that any expression of that care comes out as mean and distant. He's a very interesting character, and I look forward to watching his development.
He seemed like he cares up until he leaves the other characters behind, then it just goes to show that heโs really self-centered but also makes you wonder just how many times has he seen people come and go. It probably got to the point where it just doesnโt matter anymore and all you can think of is survival of the fittest and every man for themselves.
His character is he actually just a asshole
@@thewanderingwriter4448 Jax is basically someone who knows the line between caring too much and how much not to care for self preservation, hence him being so well adjusted. If someone were to confront him on being a jerk, I'd say he'd 100% say its to entertain himself and distract others.
Haha, amazing how quickly people have warmed up to these characters. So far I've seen no indication that Jax cares about anyone but himself, but I can get onboard the idea that he's constantly deeply enraged at being stuck here. Also really looking forward to where this goes.
That was totally my thought when he went back and broke the โSpareโ sign around 14:00. It was like a little moment of anger/ rebellion against the almost insultingly (given their situation) goofy and absurd things that always happen in the circus.
Imagine finding out you'll spend eternity as a bunch of random shapes including a triangle head.

Reminder that Caine isn't evil. He's an ai who lives in the virtual world. He literally can't comprehend why people would want to leave or how. He wants to help them, which was stated by the creator. However, his reality is the virtual world, so he can't help them. He's not evil either. He genuinely wants to support the other people, but his roundabout way of doing things unintentionally creates obstacles for the cast.
Iโd say heโs an example of โYou may be a bad guy, but you are not a bad guyโ (I donโt remember the actual quote and itโs probably not accurate anyway lol)

No wonder putting effort on making it look like a kid's show attracted already a big chunk of the planet's kids.
Yโknow itโs interesting how unmalicious caine seemingly is. Although heโs clearly crazy, and rather dismissive of his โcharactersโ, he shows genuine care about them, why try to โstimulateโ their brains? Why give them their own rooms? And why would he go through the trouble of creating a exit, if you were trying keep them there for a reason, or drive them crazy? Or even when he deals with obscured characters, he sends them to a โvaultโ instead of deleting, destroying, banishing, itโs like he is trying to find a way to fix them but he canโt because โhe canโt control mindsโ. So itโll be really interesting to see how this wacko of a ring leader turns out, malicious puppeteer, or crazy care taker?
The door we see Pomni enter is different coloured than the one she saw outside. I think its likely that this red door was created specifically to throw off everyone to the idea of there being a real exit. His explanation felt suspect at best. at the bare minimum he wasn't being truthful about the purpose of the exit
โ@@Bakron97could also be he tried to make an exit himself, but couldn't, so he tried to make an area similar to the outside, but has few references, so also failed in that as well. He truly does seem to want to help, but cannot.
If it's true that he's confirmed to be an AI, as I thought after watching the Episode, he's likely made to help humans within the extent of his powers, but there seems to be a software or maybe even hardware malfunction. I think he did make an Exit, because that's what they had asked for, but he can't make an "Exit" out of the game/program.
The basement seems more like a quarantine of sorts, since we saw that the Abstracted can "infect" the others to some degree and it's likely that him not Deleting them, may be less of a "don't want to" and more "I can't do that".
His explination of the unfinished exit felt very fake, with his slower than normal talking, and looking around. Quite...

Yknow, i just had a thought. Im amazed that nobody had a lasting reaction to Kaufmo abstracting. Pretty much everyone brushed it off more than anything, with Caine even making a joke about his abstracting.
There doesnโt seem to be a way of โdyingโ in the digital circus, but abstracting is the closest thing to it; completely losing your mind, your body becoming something atrocious and violent, with no remnant of what used to be โyouโ.
With Kaufmo, that was straight up just a dude _dying,_ someone they mightโve known for a long time, and they brush it off like itโs nothing. Hell, Iโm surprised Pomni didnโt even say anything (though they did look disgusted after Caineโs joking demeanor about it.)
Heโs not dead, heโs just horribly morphed and itโs also not the first time, since thereโs other doors crossed out.
Also they are all pretty dissociated because focusing on the world means confronting the fact they are trapped in a glorified kids show.

Judging by all the crossed out faces on doors we see, it looks like this happens pretty often. One of them was even a Queen piece... they must've either abstracted or something else happened that we don't know about yet.
Its likely happened before as there were others in the cellar and lots of crossed out doors
17:36 is a very somber moment. This is the first time Pomni has seen herself since arriving in the Digital Circus.
This scene highlights the gravity of the situation for Pomni. She realises that this isnโt a dream.

Not only did she have to hide from a Lovecratian nightmare on her first day, it was all the while chasing an exit door she thought was real... only to be told it was something Caine made. Wasn't done out of malice but still doesn't hurt any less. Let's just hope she can recover from this.

An idea for future episodes is that whenever a character walks into a different room for a split second you can see the other characters in that room tposing as a reference to old games when you load a new area and the models are tposing
All the actors here did such an incredible job but I'd like to give my personal kudos to Lizzie Freeman as Pomni. I genuinely don't think I've ever heard a performance that was so simultaneously hilarious, horrifying, and heartcrushingly sad. She really nails the vibe that Pomni is/was a completely random person who's been abducted into a true nightmare scenario, and you really REALLY feel for her and want to see her be okay.
Its been a while since I've heard her voice in an SMG4 product (haven't seen murder drone yet, sorry) and it was nice to see her again after a few issues she had since 2019.
To me the elaborate ominous laugh into a shrilling screech when Pomni sees the computer and headset is just *chef's kiss*

Not too many people have actually been in that stereotypical isekai place where you say to yourself "this is a dream, that's the only explanation," and then you realize that it's not a dream, and in that moment you don't know what's real anymore.
But Pomni's reaction to it seemed the most real I've ever seen. Oh and especially her portrayal at the end.

I heard about this since the first few weeks when the fandom blew up and couldn't get past the first five minutes on my first watch but holy shit, I don't regret giving it a second try at all! this is awe-some! I can't wait for the second episode!
I love how Kane isn't your usual "British and wants to make a deal for your soul" type of character. It's a nice fresh take.
It really does feel like he runs the show, not as the person in control of the circus but instead a charismatic leader who genuinely cares about his underlings safety and mental well being doing the best with what he has got

@@philipryan1829 when characters in most media fit Caines archetype they usually are outright evil or underlying sinister. They flipped the script and shown him as jovial and kind even if itโs in a weird way.

I love Pomni's smile at the end so much. The most forced of forced smiles. Finally getting to acceptance that there is no escape, no convenient exit door that leads to freedom and if you obsess over finding your escape you could end up like Kaufmo. So smile...smile and bury the pain as insanity surrounds you. Survive.
My favourite line is "It could be a completely unrelated question! You never know till it happens!"
You never know until itโs too late is the best executed line in the entire show
Who knew that players that are trapped in a digital world is the best thing you ever seen.
I know it's already settled with the inspiration of "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream", but you know what? This whole pilot is REALLY bringing me great vibes of Courage the Cowardly Dog. It may never happen, but I would love if Glitch is going with that style too: Scary and funny things happen most of the time, but it also has it's rare moments or beautiful gems that you didn't expect from a horror comedy show.

โ@@Shane-impact A.I. traps multiple people for their enjoyment, messing with their appearances. You even got characters being a-holes for their own enjoyment or just to break up the endless monotony. Then you have some characters trying their best to help the group in spite of their fate. And another character on the brink of insanity. Interesting "giving up" here seems to turn you into some amorphous glitch akin to IHNMAIMS' title reference trapped alive, and aware? in a void (which also seemingly causes constant agony). Whereas in IHNMAIMS they just offed themselves (which isn't really giving up there, since that's as close as they can get to 'escaping'). Im rambling ๐

This is so fun! I like how each character seems to be coping with the world they've been dropped onto in a different way. Ragatha is clearly trying to make the best and in denial whereas Jax is more cynical and doesn't seem to believe it's of much consequence, Kinger is much more anxious about things. As for the rest, I'm sure they'll be developed more in due time!
Hopefully Pomni can find some way to cope with the rest of them in the meantime. Poor girl really needs it

I love how Glitch used the Cartoon-ey animation style to the fullest, like Jax's face, the entire thing Caine has going on, and Pomni's eyes sometimes being scribbles. It really helps the contrast with Kaufmo when he abstracts.

It's really interesting to see the characters express themselves as if they are NPCs interacting with each other in Animal Crossing or something, or an in game cutscene from a 90s 3D game. The designs are also so solid, each of these characters could be a mascot for a classic PC or PS1 game.

I feel like each one has a different way of coping with the endless digital place theyโre trapped in.

Jax, coping with comedy, sarcasm, etc.
Pomni, literal denial
Ragatha, by helping others instead of worrying about it.
Kinger, being.. him
Gangle, by just actually being mega depressed about it.
And Zooble, by straight up not caring
I wonder what weโll see in the future of this series, itโs really well written I think, also very very funny when it tries to be, and serious when it needs to be.

Y'know it's weird, I can't remember the last time I loved a digital project like this so much I was already having mixed feelings. Knowing it can probably go only so far between funding and effort, but wishing it could last SO many episodes.

As someone who has recently gotten into 3D animation for school, it's honestly just pure fun seeing some of the parts where the models were either played around with for some borderline goofy animations or straight up partially broken/stretched out for the sake of the story.....
....mainly because those things are all VERY fun to to after you've spent god knows how long preparing a model to me animated

10:57 I just realized this and people have most definitely commented on this, but jax having keys to everyone's room and saying "you've all been fine" is just implying (in my opinion) that he's been checking on everyone to make sure they are okay. Since there have obviously been those who lost it, so it's honestly sweet that since he has keys he checks on everyone. While still pranking them as well, he does care and worry for them.
(Someone pointed out in the comments) It also means that he is most likely looking for a way out as well, since he mentions that he has keys to everything/everywhere it wouldn't be surprising if he's been trying to find an exit, he just hasn't mentioned such since the others would assume he's starting to loose it
I think jax is the best character in glitch history in terms of sarcasm and humor.
Yep! Even though it may not seem like it, Jax truly does care for the other circus members. He's just hiding it because that's his coping mechanism. That, along with the fact that he shoved Gangle and Kinger into the Gloink hole to protect them from Kaufmo when he could have just gone in there by himself shows a lot! He'll probably have the most character development by the end of the series!

i kinda adore Caine, he seems to actually care enough, sure he has no clue what theyโre feeling because heโs actually a part of the game unlike the other characters but he still really wants them to feel safe and ok. when heโs talking at 5:35 (roughly) he seems actually kinda upset that he canโt help them with their own minds, he might actually like control but he also cares. his personality is also great, heโs such a bubbly little guy.
Something just occurred to me, why does he call the Gloinks โhumanoid hashbrowns?โ These are the least humanoid critters in this cartoon, no heads, arms or legs, just a simple shape with eyes. Why does Caine think theyโre humanoid? What does he think a human is? Considering no one arrives looking anything like a human, Iโm not sure he has a reliable frame of reference for humanity.
Yeah he doesn't seem to purposely torture them. He made the exit because they wanted it so much, but he has no clue what's the real world.
A lot of people think Caine is like the master mind, but what if he's just an advanced AI with a poor understanding of reality?

Everyone's voice acting is absolutely superb! Love how each of the character's have their own little visual tics, such as Caine's eyes retreating into his jaw when he's obviously caught in a lie.
Wow...the delicious blend of vivid visual color with splashes of blink-and-miss-it horror come together so well. Bravo!!!
To add onto the voices, the fact they have audiotracks in like 10 languagesss!!
I don't know, the main characters voice acting feels a bit iffy at times, but everyone elseโs is good

REWATCHING THIS BEFORE EP 2 RELEASESSSSS
It isn't much, and I don't have much, but I purchased a Pomni plush just to try and help fund for that full season. This is a wonderful project, an amazing step in 3D animation. Caine is literally a 3d modeling and design marvel that 100% needs to be studied by future generations of 3D artists.
You've successfully figured out how to use both his mouth for talking and for showing facial expression at the same time, without compromising the audio dubbing. It still thoroughly feels like he's talking, while the mouth can not only be raised or lowered to show expression, but also using the eyes with cartoonish gestures and movements to show expression without an eye socket just shows an expertise at design and direction. Extremely well done.

I absolutely love the orchestrated version of the Digital Circus theme at the end and how it manages to take the light hearted theme of the show and give it ominous implications that something is definitely not right.
Completely Agree! Been listening to the ending over a few times because of it.
From fun, chipper, Mario party 8 tone, to an implication of existential dread and horror mixed with an odd beauty.

Kinger's reference to Gooseworx's habit of putting gameshows in the belly of various monsters was a great callback. The comedic use of rule-of-three, the intriguing mystery surrounding the circus, the edutainment game feel paired with the chaotic experience of an unfinished B-game. This animation is phenomenal.

Just noticed this on my third rewatch but as theyโre passing the room doors we see not just NPC placeholders but previous characters crossed out; thereโs one that looks to be a recolor of Kinger so perhaps he didnโt go in alone but his partner lost their mind along the way. Iโm interested in learning more about the people who were abstracted.

I never thought Iโd like this show as much as I did. The way they combined the goofy and colorful nature of some kids shows along with the feeling of psychological horror without any actual terrifying imagery amazes me. The characters themselves also feel very fleshed out and unique from one another! Keep it up, Glitch Productions!

I'll be honest: I had no idea who this was made by, or what it was, until I went and checked it out for myself. I had heard of it way prior to its actual release, I think? But I never saw anything about it until now. This is an absolute masterpiece, and I loved all of it. The animation feels alive, and concepts feel adapted very well into its own universe, as expected. I hope there's more to see soon, because I loved it.

Honestly this is interesting. Thereโs always shows where people get sent to another world. But u never see em mentality handle it this poorly. Gives a sense of eerie realism to it
Well to be honest Pomni was probably a nervous wreck in her previous life, as it appears not ALL the characters are handling it poorly. I mean we can assume kinger has probably been there for at or over a decade and he's FINE.
Don't think kinger is entirely fine? Like hes got a few screw loose. Every now and again he just... forgets he's in a conversation and freaks out when he remembers other people (gangle) exist. We'll have to wait and see
That cutoff scream was incredibly funny, and the psychological horror was incredibly well executed. 10/10 pilot, hope thereโs more

Bro the orchestral version of the main theme soundtrack perfectly conveys how Pomni is feeling towards the end. It makes it all really sink it. You feel her terror, her helplessness, her acceptance to this absurd situation. This entire pilot was incredibly intriguing to watch.
It's weird to put into words but the only way I can describe it is subliminal dread/terror. You feel that something terrible is about to happen but you don't really know why or don't understand why. Pomni is filled with despair as she is starting to accept her fate by the end of the episode but how she can be stuck in a digital world like this is beyond her comprehension. The entire situation is overwhelming as she feels helpless as all the others keep saying "you'll ge used to it". GIves me chills. Honestly an amazing soundtrack. It's incredible how much emotion one can convery without dialogue.
Also I like how pomni basically went through the 5 stages of grief on the very first day of arriving there lol.

The character design and voice acting is phenomenal. I never imaging pupils could convey SO much. With the simpler textures to really play into the uncanny early 3d games were all familiar with, the pupils of, especially those of the maidespair

There is so much to unpack, I have no clue where to start. I love how gooseworx managed to capture the abstract terror of amnesia and the terror of the unknown. The characters are so charming. The hints to the lore like the hallway doors, Cofmoโs abstraction, the back rooms, the void, the computer Pomni recognized, the logo, so many secrets! I canโt wait!
MatPat will certainly have his hands full with this one soon like he already does with Murder Drones.
