I believe Floyd Sr trained de la Hoya for this fight but didn't want to act as his cornerman against his own son. I think I saw something on TV where Floyd Jr was talking about how it drove a wedge between the boxing relationship between him and his father and brought him closer to his uncle. I believe Floyd Sr also trained de la Hoya for his fight against Vargas; his biggest win, where the shoulder roll defense was critical for surviving the early onslaught.

When I watched this fight live I thought it was close but now am watching it and I cant believe how I didnt notice that Oscar was just swinging and Mayweather was blacking most of those shots. On the other hand Mayweather was hitting him with a lot of head and body shots all night

Effort doesn’t win in boxing... Clean punches landed win in boxing. Just because Oscar threw a lot of punches does NOT mean he won the fight. He barely hit Floyd. Haters that said Floyd lost this fight need to get their head examined and their eyes checked!

Says the black dude. Black gotta stick with black. De La Hoya walked Floyd down the entire fight, with exception of the last 2 rounds where he gassed out. Do you honestly think Floyd’s little flurries landed cleanly, or hurt Oscar in any way? Oscar was blocking many of the punches Floyd threw, and even the biased commentators made that observation a few times throughout the fight. Plain and simple, Oscar was the busier, and more dominant fighter for the majority. He pressed the fight, while Floyd ran. Trust me, Oscar landed a lot of the punches he threw too, and collectively, he hit Floyd more than Floyd hit him. Compubox is just as flawed as the Dominion voting machines bro, they scored a lot of blocked shots in Floyd’s favor - again, even the commentators eluded to this.

This is why I'm glad I boxed and actually learned how to score a fight. The casual fan listening to these biased ass commentators would have you think Oscar is dominating when those "flurries" he kept praising weren't landing. Glancing blows doesn't score. Nor does missing.
Then he discredits the Combubox score. "I don't believe Floyd has landed more. There's no way."
He even HIGHLIGHTS his bias "Floyd Mayweather is a hard guy to like."
The reality is this....Floyd gave Oscar a boxing lesson. These commentators would acknowledge that Floyd was winning the round, Oscar would do ONE flurry that missed ridiculously, and they'd say it won him the round.
The numbers simply don't add up to the scorecards. They SHOULD have been wider. I scored it at 117-111.
