I watched only three oscar nominated films this year which is about 10 fewer than normal. Parasite, Joker, and Tarantino's film made the cut. Parasite was the most memorable of them all. So glad to see a departure from the predictable winners for a change. Happy for Joaquin Phoenix as he was astounding and unsettling as Joker. Glad Brad Pitt is back and better than ever. Going to have to watch Judy next and wait for the rest of the movies to be released for less than 20 dollars a pop. I love the movies but I cannot justify going broke to see them all.
I love that for years I've been saying film shouldn't be focused on just American made movies. It's true there are some movies that really merit that place up on a pedestal but there are a lot of international films that deserve so much attention. From the message they portray to the film directing. International movies are definitely worth looking into and I'm glad I've never gotten stuck in my mind that American is where it's at. Congrats to Parasite, probably one of the best movies I've seen in years and won't come around for another few.

Parasite won Cannes most coveted award. Cannes film festival has a very diverse group of movies from all over the world. To get the highest award there just shows that Parasite was on a different scale worthy of the eventual Oscar nod from the Academy. So no, this wasnt identity politics or a pity award to diversify the awards. This was, unlike the many past years, based more so on merit than anything else. The film was a truly masterpiece.
Just watch it. For me Parasite is a great movie, with or without the Oscars. Im glad the Academy acknowledges it, and frankly idc if its influenced by whatever social trend/pressure. Its a good change.

THis was so dumb maybe the PArasiting of humans has begun for a long time now. But any normal cineast will know this is a good movie but there were at least 3 movies BETTER than this goofy comedy.
This was all about diversity, nothing more. People were ranting, whining and complaining about the lack of it this year. Without a lot of blacks in the running the Academy had to save face and go with what was available. Plain and simple.

These movies are way more complex and way Better in every way.
