For example it could've been just old cereals that are eroded, and/or had been left under heavy boxes, so maybe then it changed it's shape. And without eating and examining it's package how would you know? By crushed eroded powders of cereal? What if mythical crew put only cerealy to bowl and not eroded cereal powder. It's sometimes hard to be sure while you examining something.
