After years of listening to people pronounce "caramel" as both 'care-a-mel' and 'car-mull' I've learned to accept each other for these differences. But listening to Link say 'care-a-mole' summoned a newfound inner angst from deep within me, that which I never knew existed.

Here in my home state of Indiana we have a city called Carmel (pronounced "car-mul"). I get the feeling it's partly to blame for "car-mul" being the predominant pronunciation of caramel here.
