The candle is a hand of glory - old myth - left hand of a hanged man - lit it either unlocks doors or paralyzes people. Not sure - what that means but - its definitely an added layer of meaning. Also feels like something Murdoc would have laying around.

Thematically either aspect kind of fits. This album carries a lot of the sentiment of being trapped in the past, which is a sort of paralysis, and escaping that paralysis to move on into the future, which is sort of like opening a door.

When they're white, which they have been for the last little while, it means he can see...ok but not perfect. We see him reading more than once, and Murdoc let him drive the motorcycle in Aries. He also doesn't seem like the type to purposely try and freak people out, he's generally very sweet

This song came out at the perfect time to make me an emotional wreck every time I listened to it. Exactly when it came out I was going through the worst break-up of my life and feeling everything the song is about. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this is my favourite Gorillaz song. 2D brings a wonderful, smooth tone in his vocals, which pairs up nicely with the simple yet precise instrumental. Elton John's lyrics are brought to the forefront in a way only he can do, Bold and Bright to hammer the piece home. 6LACK uses his wonderfully sung verse in such a clever way, almost as the opposite of Elton's. He acts more like another instrument here, free flowing in and out of the rest of the piece to give it such a distinct feel.
