    Tis... With great joy and sadness seeing this again. After such long time. 1973 i was 3. Never seen it till early 80's... & Since then... been Quest find it. 'No one' could have played Green Knight better than 'Nigel Green'. Older found out this was his last film. Died may 1972. Sad loss. Saw him lots films. Was always great, really stood out. Thank you very much letting me see him & film again. Always loved fantasy films. Sword of Valiant, Merlin and sword, Sword and sorcerer, Hawk the slayer... Sinbad, even holy grail etc. Another which all should watch on youtube. "Black Angel 1980" by roger Christian. Fantasy short. Was lost for years. Just like this film. Superb.

    A beautiful movie, perfect to watch at the Winter Solstice. At this time i see so many symbolic in the movie;
    Green Knight as the Holly King( Winter)
    Sir Gwain - firstly the newborn Sun and he go the spiral of life and death and become the green Oak King ( Summer).
    The Quest are the stones and points of Initiation and reflections there own life.
    Thank you 🦌🎄

      I'm going to go and see it as it looks good in the trailer. Mildly irritated at having an Indian Knight as Gawain but as we've had a black Friar Tuck I suppose 'colour blind casting' messing with our old legends is how it has to be now with Hollywood and the beeb! Good actors though Dev Patel and David Harewood.

    • @elephantsdontforget
      @elephantsdontforget 2 년 전 +4

      @@alib463 and don't forget they had a black Anne Boleyn in a tv production last year. colour blind casting is all very well but it only appears to be a one way street. There have been terrible outcries from the diversity mob in the last few years when roles have been given to white actors that they considered should have been played by people of colour. the word "Diversity" is basically a code word for less white people.

    • @alib463
      @alib463 2 년 전 +6

      @@elephantsdontforget Yes I gave the black Boleyn drama a miss as it seemed like complete stunt casting to make it a novelty. A black Guinevere in the BBC TV Merlin was ridiculous enough as she should have been a Welsh woman! There are some brilliant Black actors about, but I really think British historical drama is the only genre that shouldn't be immediately open to all. It just makes it far more realistic having actors cast who looked like they at least WOULD have been around at the time.

    SWORD OF THE VALIANT was never a great film. But it was... interesting. And I noticed, over decades, each time I'd watch, I'd like it more. That's interesting. The thing makes NO SENSE at all, but is mesmerizing to watch.
    So then I found out about this 1973 version by the SAME director, and had to see it. Got a DVD-R that plays on computer drives and BLU-RAY players-- yeah! Spooky to see a director make the same film twice like that.
    While the '84 version is slicker and has more known actors, I really think I like the '73 version more. The story is easier to follow, it's narrated by Ian Richardson, and DOESN'T have a pointless downbeat ending like the '84 film. And Ron Goodwin's music-- WOW!!!!!
    Also, Nigel Green's Knight is LESS arrogant than Sean Connery's.

    • @henrykujawa4427

      I've seen 2 other versions (so far). One is an animated cartoon that apparently follows the original story faithfully and makes PERFECT sense!!! But I've only seen a terrible fuzzy print in KRplus.
      I've also seen the 90's Thames TV version. Looks nice, but is INTERMINABLE bordering on UNWATCHABLE. I just did not like the writing, the structure of the story, the directing, the editing... and not one of the actors stood out. It's shocking when I dislike EVERY single aspect of a film like that. (Someone posted it at "Archive Org" and mistakenly labelled it "1973"-- NOPE!)

    I think this version is what the 'Green Knight' should be, an elemental spirit of the seasons - the green man of old churches; rather than a Lord enchanted by Morgan le Fay* - medieval manuscript version. J.R.R. Tolkien found the 'Green Knight' a difficult character to interpret ! * Mystical and intriguing beginning then not a lot in between until the end scene.

    • @jerrymerryweather8034
      @jerrymerryweather8034 3 개월 전

      The 90's film follows the original manuscript of an enchanted lord as the Green Knight, better made and shorter. But the knight is not a woodland spirit, living and dying with the seasons; nor is it connected to the green man in the church. The 1973 has more mystery in it; and closer to what I think the story should be.
