This case and the judge set fair use precedent. Because before, fair use was quite vague and no one had anything to go by, until this judge gave her opinion and order. That’s why she says “as a matter of law” and not “under a matter of law” because there wasn’t anything there. She practically set the law by saying that, and set the precedent. People to this day use this case and the judge for their defense against copyright claims. And every time they win. It just makes fair use stronger and harder to break.

They were seeking litigation on the fact that not just anyone can report on NEWS, they were just trying to hyper-extend that to film and art media.
By law, one must be in the business of news-reporting in order to seek out information and report on it (we're talking political actions and social development). Doesn't extend to artistic media, though, because artistic media (especially in this case) is open for public commentary. Such media has been published and is viewed by the general population.
