That's the idea. A company would never sell your info because there's too much to lose (you and everyone who hears about it would switch providers). There's not much to worry about. Almost all ISPs have a privacy contract with you saying they will never distribute/share any of your information with anyone. This is why if you torrent, you get a message from your ISP, and not a Cease and desist from paramount.

with a vpn, all your ISP would see is that you're online and using data. they wouldn't be able to tell anything else.
Ethan, I've read the reason for passing this bill and I think you may have missed it by accident.
The reason they are repealing the FCC regulation is because the FCC only has authority over ISPs, and not over other companies that also process our data like Google, Microsoft, and Facebook.
The regulation should correctly be under the umbrella of the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), and this bill was part of the process of moving that regulation.
