I love how Allen is more worried about the camera man rather than the live rocket in the tube.
In hindsight, it really is a wonder why Thunderspears don't jam more often.
To be fair they're the same people experienced with making 3D movement gear, so this to them would be a joke in terms of complexity (in the anime/manga obviously)
Because plot.
During the whole video, James just radiated this energy of a kid who is super proud to show his new friend all the cool stuff he has at home.
It was pretty funny seeing James climb the shelves and telling Alan that he did it because there was no ladder when you clearly see one upright on the left just a few seconds prior next to James (04:15).
The energy of making your friend mildly uncomfortable and embarrassed is strong with this one
That Kid Also Has Multiple Lighters That He Sells At School.
He's not really his *new* friend though. He made a video with him a while back and Alan sometimes mentions him in his videos. So it's not like his new friend. More like a friend who he hasn't seen in a long time.
It's like a kid who invited his friend over to build some cool cardboard thingy but they're fully grown adults who are building anime weapons.

@@e-ironmanmarsden754 this guy make sense
I just saw this comment when Allen had just stood up and just wow.
The reason they flew so well is due to the relatively heavy nosecone moving the centre of mass forward, while the centre of pressure was about in the middle. Because the entire tube was basically your engine nozzle the thrust was also perfectly on-centre too, so you didn't have any torque applied by the motor.
all in all, shockingly good little rockets. I thought you'd need to replace the 3d printed nose cones for some aluminium cones turned on a laythe for additional forward mass, but it worked out super well.
6:20 It was at this point that I could almost literally hear the spirits of dead rocket engineers screaming in agony
4:22 James: we don't have ladders
4:08 *literally shows a ladder*
When ur too lazy and use the wrong tool for the job.

24:09 I love how Allen is literally terrified and James is just sitting there with that look like "First time with explosives ay?"
23:09 "I think its your turn mikasa"💀
Improvement suggestion: Use a pulley rail and fix it on the arm (the rail is 30 cm away from the arm to avoid burns), so that the pulley rail can more easily control the direction of the rocket. At the same time, two spiral wings can be added to the head of the rocket, so that the rocket will rotate during flight, have axial force, and have a more stable direction.

Hey Samuel, love your channel !
Tatakae
My man
I love how alan tries to stop the falling rocket engine from going off by using the force.
It's interesting to note that basically every problem they have is solved by how its actually constructed in the show. Namely the accuracy bc in the show they're mounted to the bottom of their swords instead of being on the top and forcing them into a reverse grip so they still get the benefit of the swords being constructed to match a human grip. The other big thing is in the show theres a secondary attachment point further down the arm so it shoots straight and is better secured.

@@devilz452 nah that's the anti personnel gear. The thunder spear schematics did come from the MP's research team but it's design and manufacture was by the Hange squad with i'm assuming help from the MPs since the scouts don't have a stable lab. So i guess it was more of a joint effort.
1:31 There are two tube, one at hand and one at elbow to stabilise and accuracy
James has that "showing your older brother all the cool shit you have" energy throughout this video lol
The reason why they fly straight without fins is that the center of thrust is way in front of center of mass and it is towards the direction of travel. It basically uses its own mass and thrust to stabilize.
I think this is mostly a myth. If you look at early rocket experiments by von Braun the idea of having thrust in front of mass doesn't do that much.
@@andrewding746 It is all about center of mass and center of thrust really. The farther away the mass is located from the axis of rotation, the greater the rotational inertia. Just as it is hard to change the motion of an object that has a large inertia, it is hard to change the rotational motion of an object with a large rotational inertia. You can additionally make the rockets spin around to get more in-flight stability.
@@yaboi1288 ok but like you can't create a self stabilizing rocket just with thrust in front of mass. To do so you still need either fins or actuationable thrust
Hmm yes big brain science words

This was really cool!
For anyone wondering:
They flew strait because the put the motor in the front. This moved the center of mass in front of the center of pressure thus making it fly strait and “stable”!
so where would the center of pressure be located? and in a bottom-engine rocket where would it be?
@@ytubeanon for a symmetrical tube the center of gravity and pressure would be pretty much ontop on each other (in the middle of the tube), which is why when you throw it it just sort of tumbles with whatever rotation u applied to it as it left ur hand. This means that a small mass in the front would move the center of mass forward enough for the tube to become aerodynamically stable.
As for “bottom engined rockets”, most, if not all orbital class rockets have engines located at the bottom (the rest of the rocket is basically just one massive fuel tank). However, the mass of the rocket engines is relatively little compared to the total mass of the rocket (if it was filled with propellant), so it does not really have much of an effect on the center of mass. Most rockets are actually somewhat aerodynamically unstable, and utilize thrust vectoring (tilting the engines) to keep the rocket pointed straight. Most modern rockets do not require fins because the control algorithms are advanced enough that it can keep an unstable rocket perfectly under control. Older rockets like the saturn v have large fins near the bottom to make it more stable.
I saw that too
@@VyarkX I have heard (from a former NASA engineer in Huntsville) that the fins on the Saturn V were actually almost purely for aesthetics. The designer refused to _not_ have fins on his rocket.
@@Earthenfist oh really? That’s very interesting. I thought that the saturn v (and basically all rockets) were so extremely optimized that they left little space for non-critical components, left alone four massive fins.
Just checked online and turns out those fins are actually for aerodynamic purposes, but only really during engine malfunctions. So perhaps what you said might actually be part of the consideration for those fins.

For the spears to fly straight they need to be very front heavy at the tip
Unfortunately not cause they'll launch downwards immediately. that'd be the case if spears were thrown, but just like strapping a rocket to a push bike; no sort of weight distribution could compensate for the sheer force of the rocket trying to fly past the front of whatever its pushing.

[Edit (THIS IS A JOKE JEEZ)]
Since in the show the thunderspears are confirmed to be as strong as tank missles imagine the blowback lol. The person flying in the air and then they just shoot back after firing
Yeah it would probably blow back, but probably not THAT much. Unlike with a bullet, the rocket propellant burns over a longer period, including once it has left the launcher. More than that, the launcher isn't really being pushed on that hard, they just need enough friction to hold it in place before firing.
@@polerin yeah but how funny would it be to see Levi getting flung
That's not how rockets work tho. Rockets have almost 0 recoil
It wont have much recoil at all. The only jerk you'd feel is the friction when the spear gets propelled off of the cylinder and it wont really be that bad since the spear would be flying so fast. If it is really as strong as a modern tank's gun that is
