This song hurts me so much. There's a person I like very much but he's in another place and does not even know my existence. This song describes how exactly I feel about this boy.

I love how in this lyric video, yes there are mess ups, but it finally rests at a drawing that is finally acceptable to the drawer. Then when the song rests at “I think it’s finally safe for me to fall...yeah I think it’s finally, finally, finally, finally...” just goes to show that the artist is content with everything. Is content with herself, with the world that’s been created, with the family/friends/lovers support and aid. It’s really beautiful, Halsey. Thank you! ❤️

This song of hers makes me so emotional it’s not just the fact that she is singing about her past relationship with Dom, who I’m a big fan of it’s also because I can relate to it. Although the fact it is about Dom makes me emotional too. What I think this song is about and I think she had said somewhere in an article is about finally meeting the love of your life someone who is going to treat you right and never hurt you but your mind won’t allow you to be with them or trust them so she describes this in words as metaphors. Beautiful meaning the love of her life stranger meaning we can’t meet we don’t know each other. It’s a dynamic that yes we are meant to be together but we haven’t met yet “I hope one day you’d like to meet.” It’s about not being able to allow yourself to love that person even tho you really want to and know it’s finally safe to fall you can’t at this point you are too broken you feel you would sabotage this person if you gave in.
“Beautiful strangers only come along to do me wrong and I hold on.” She knows every time she has ever actually fallen for someone it ended in disaster. Her heart wants to fall for this person but she can’t.
The imagery in this video shows her at the beginning singing in a dark room and nobody’s listening which to me represents the sorrow and pain and heartbreak of past relationships she’s experienced when the imagery gets bright and she’s in a room of people that’s her imaging what it would be like to fall for this lovely beautiful stranger but once again back to the dark scene her heart won’t let her fall even tho she really really wants to. It goes back and forth but did you notice something? It ends on the dark at it started with the dark. This is a hauntingly sad song with amazing poetry. It’s good because it’s filled with pain and real experiences. Doesn’t help when you are a fan of the person she’s singing about and feel their pain as well as hers. I can relate to Ashley I have felt this way and wrote something similar to this. I can’t describe what it feels like in writing it’s just how she made it seem you know if you know.
