That particular verse came from her mother. Saw it in an interview. When she went through a break up (didn’t say which) her mother told her that feeling you get like they’re butterflies is a warning that that person is not meant for you. Chinsu Đạt it’s about clearly they are abusive and detrimental but you feel a sensation of happiness still. I’ve been through an emotionally abusive relationship and this was how it was for me personally... it’s sad but we get so blind folded and only care about feelings than what if’s and facts...
In my experience, it was when he would be on and off with me, and I would get butterflies whenever he would give a little bit of affection just to get me back. Of course that's not a healthy relationship and that is a warning sign of it, but you keep end up going back, because you crave that feeling of butterflies in the stomach again. Expecting them to change. They never change.

To me, Halsey presented her perspective of a toxic, unballanced relationship, in which she is trying to have synchronic connection with her partner. The drawing she does in the beginning triggers her stream of memory about this relationship and the feelings that it brought with it. Everything is happening in a fun park to symbolize the recklessness, the adventure and the thrill that this relationship triggers. Everything is bright and colorful. Halsey is trying to mimic the gestures and movements of her partner, in an attempt to feel what she feels and to feel closer to that person. The colorful lights and the changing of the eyes may allure to the use of drugs/alcohol, but it may also symoblize the toxicity of the concept of having such an unballanced relationship itself, in which you lose yourself completely to the other person, as if you were hypnotized. However, when Halsey makes a first move without following her gf, but rather waiting for the latter to follow her and steps out the "exist" door, she finds herself alone, surrounded by sharks and feeling as if she were drowning. This may suggest the disappointment, shock and dispair of being let down by your loved one whom you would have followed to the graveyard. The realization of this makes everything gray and sad, therefore, in the ending of this video, the park is no longer bright and colorful, but rather empty. Seeing things from this new angle makes Halsey step out the gates, which suggests leaving behind the relationship and the illusions that you had about it. Idk, this might be it or it may be just me lol 😅

Even though I've listened to her for so much time, now that I've been diagnosed with TB I can understand how that moment made she feel like that, the video starts showing us about how she is so used to detriment cause she was going through a depressive stage, but then when the other girl appears she feels like she could save her from everything so she enters without even noticing in a manic stage where she is only dependent to a vision of her that only she has created, everything goes so fast till suddenly she realises how that feeling was killing her in the inside. She ends up alone without none against her original stage. This MV is such a great example of how mania feels like euphoria, power, no control and surrender to everything that makes you keel anything. Only bipolar people are able to say how beautiful and dangerous at the same time can be love when you're willing to risk ur life for someone. Ty for reading, hope you learn from other of her videos she's such an artist

This song haunts me. She's lost someone she loved very much. Someone she would have gone to the ends of the earth for. Someone who perhaps wasn't good for her, but nonetheless..... That person is gone now, has left her life in some fashion and she's searching for her, still looks for her wherever she goes. She feels lost without her.
This song reminds me the first period of the Pandemic, where I sat locked up in the apartment, felt lost, confused, and worried, but the great music kept me cheered up. Now this time feels to nostalgic in the weird way, like you know, music I listened to in the first months of 2020 brings me memories of the time I literally did nothing exciting, but it reminds me of weird existential thoughts and my general mood I had back then.

I can't describe how much i love this Song!!! It's Dark and lovely at the same time... I had a best friend who eventually drifted away from me cause of our differences on certain things, and i thought I'd never loose her just the way in the video it shows the love they had.... Same. I recently came to the realization that my bestfriend for over 15 years was actually really toxic and I let her isolate and drive away all my other friendships. She would constantly be picking fights and gaslighting both my other friends and I and because she was my bestfriend I would always stick with her even when I knew she wasn't in the right. My other friends would all tell me there was no hard feelings but they just couldn't spend time with me when she was around and being actively toxic with them and since I spent all my time with her that meant all my other friends slowly faded from my life. Maybe it's because she's actively driven everyone else away but recently she's started being passive aggressive and picking fights with me over the smallest of things and it's been making me reevaluate my friendship with her as well as wonder if she ever cared for me the same way I did her. I feel really ashamed that I let her isolate me so much.

I deeply connect to this, especially the music video. At my darkest point in my life, I was so lonely I categorised every thought/voice in my head and turned them into my "friends"... i wished they were real, they were my 'perfect' idealizations of friends but sadly I always knew they wouldn't exist, especially with someone who has BPD. All my friends feel temporary, and no matter how hard I try to be better for them they are still as selfish and only care about their 'normal' friends they can contain. I LOVE YOU HALSEY❤❤❤
