Happy St Practice Day! The day before St Patrick's Day, doubly celebrated when on a Saturday.
Keeping the weekend going with a lighter offering. With the weather turning back from balmy to down right chilly, I thought I'd bring in a summerier... (summeryish?) tone with a Irish lemonade.
Jameson's put out a canned version which sounded great. Jameson's and Lemonade. What could go wrong?
Turns out... a lot... It wasn't great... no whiskey flavour, just sickly syrupy sweet.
Good news is, your friendly neighbourhood Espo is pretty awesome, and I've got a whiskey lemonade that's one of my summer mainstay. A couple twists, and here we are.
Irish Lemonade
2oz Irish whiskey
2oz fresh lemon juice
0.75oz rich demerara syrup
2-3 bar spoons of melon liqueur
4-5oz Soda water
Add the whiskey, lemon juice, and syrup to a mixing glass with ice
Stir for 20-30 seconds to chill and dilute
Strain over fresh ice
top with soda water (Use a bigger glass than I did)
add 2-3 bar spoons of your preferred melon liqueur
Enjoy!
Super fresh, extremely refreshing, the quick lemonade is delightful, the Irish whiskey comes through better than bourbon usually does, and the melon liqueur complements everything wonderfully.
