Oh, man. Freshman year of college, an unlimited data plan on my phone, 4G, tethered to my laptop, watching the IndyCar World Championship on a Sunday while eating pizza in my apartment.
I still remember it like it was yesterday.
Feels so nostalgic.
How's your life now, internet stranger?
World championship but only held in America, makes sense.
@@jakehands with drivers from the US, Brazil, Japan, Spain, Australia, the UK, South Africa, Venezuela, Switzerland, New Zealand, Colombia, and Canada. It was indeed an actual World Championship. A bunch of extra drivers and teams joined just that particular race for that exact reason. In 2011, F1 was far less of a "world championship" than IndyCar in terms of the drivers on the grid.
@@spdcrzy F1 is a world championship because it's held all over the 'WORLD'.
@@jakehandsWho calls Indycar a world championship?
One Fearless Man, Rest in Peace Dan. Forever Lionheart. Racing legacies hit different. RIP Dan Weldon.
I just watched coffeezilla review this poster, @julia_tradescrypto……seems it’s a scam channel that steals your crypto. Shame on you @julia_tradescrypto…..shame on you!
Yeah I remember the it such a sad day. I’m from Milton Keynes in England and Dan was from Emberton which is a small village just outside Milton Keynes.
This one's going to be special. Lionheart forever ❤
This story needs to be told. So incredibly excited for this to come out. Seems like yesterday I watched Dan Wheldon pull off an unbelievable finish to the 2011 Indianapolis 500. Only to turn the channel months later to that horrific crash at Vegas that cut his life short. Life is bittersweet.
Imagine the crowd at the future Indianapolis 500 during drivers introductions if one of his two sons makes the field. That place is going to go wild!
Give me a 1-2 Wheldon finish some day.
@@GWUNukie I hope it happens!! If it happens, would love to see both brothers kiss the bricks together with their mother and a picture of Dan sitting on the bricks.
@@GWUNukie the entire Indycar world would drink the milk if that happened.
One Fearless Man, Rest in Peace Dan.
Hats off to Suzie for supporting her boys in pursuing the same passion that took away her husband. That is true selflessness. That October day in 2011 is burned into my brain; one of the worst days I've had as a race fan.
I saw him win both Indy 500's. I met him several times. He was my favorite Indy car driver. I miss Dan Wheldon.
I had the privilege to meet and talk to Dan the evening before his last race. He was such a gentleman and really appreciated his fans. I was at the fateful race and it was so hard to be there and not know what was happening. I remember the Lifeflight helicopter starting up, the silence from the track, the fans in the stands questioning what was happening….
RIP Lionheart
I’m from Milton Keynes, Dan was from Emberton which is a small village just 10 mins away. So he was technically our home town hero.
Wow I can’t wait for this. I was screaming with joy watching the Indy 500 that year from my sofa in England, I cried on the same sofa watching the Vegas race only a few weeks later.
RIP Dan, you are missed 😢
Dan was the Man. My favorite Indy driver of all time, and he will never be replaced.
Rest in peace, Dan.
NASCAR had 'The Day' on February 18th, 2001, when Dale Earndhart was lost. IndyCar had its own version of 'The Day' on October 16th, 2011.
Not quite; a lot of the drivers were questioning why they were racing Dallaras at Las Vegas. The speeds in practice and qualifying were complained as being too fast, even for these guys. They went along with the race anyway and what they feared was going to happen did, and one of them died for it.
Not the same.
@@Jev6it wasn’t just the speed as much as it was having _34 cars_ on it. But it’s still the worst accident for Indycar’s reputation in recent history. 2 time and defending Indy 500 winner and 1 time series champion was a huge loss
And F1's version was 1st of May, 1994.
I was able to see his son Sebastian race and win the SKIP Barber series in Texas. Looks like a future talent. Best of luck to young Seb and the family
Never to forget one of the best! Prayers for his family still.
It’s hard to believe Dan is physically gone. My prayers & best wishes to Oliver, Sebastian & Susie, the rock that holds everything together. God Bless!
I was lucky enough to meet this great person a few times. He was such a class act.
Can’t wait for this……remember speaking to him in my local pub when he’d just started out in single seaters after karting…..special driver 👍
I cried...this one is gonna be beautiful
I saw Dan race at Brands Hatch back in the 90s and had his signed poster on my wall, how he didn't get to F1 was beyond me but was glad to see he found success in the US. Such a sad day when I heard the news.
We used to instruct together at Brands. Some people would refuse to go out with him. After all, what could that 18 year old kid teach them about driving a car. I often wonder what they thought after he won the Indy 500…and then won it again. Such great days, with an amazing bunch of characters. He was the first friend that I lost to racing, but sadly not the last. It still hurts.
F1 fan here who has never watched an Indy car race. This looks EPIC.
I’ll never forget wearing my William Rast Racing hat to school the day I learned the news. Dad had bought it for me off of EBay probably 2 months or so prior to Dans passing. What a legend he was. His memory will always be with me.
I had an INDYCAR SERIES ballcap that I wore everyday. I took a Sharpie™ and wrote #26/77 on it in tribute.
I remember his first win in Atlantics in 2000. He had incredible speed. Looking forward to this one.
I was a Dan Weldon fan. RIP. This looks incredible.
Dan had a way of being the most charming, sweetest human off the track, but as soon as the visor went down, he turned into menace to his competitors. Easily one of the best to master the Indianapolis Motor Speedway of our generation.
Susie Wheldon is a hero. Really hope to see see the boys get to the top.
Racing legacies hit different. They can be cross generational. RIP Dan Weldon
Graham and Damon Hill come to mind, and especially Gilles and Jaques Villenueve.
@@unique11124and the Rosbergs!
Best documentary ever. Best race movie ever. So well done. I thought race car drivers were the bravest ever. Then Susie proved me wrong. Had the pleasure of meeting Dan October 15, 2011. I already liked him but after a 5 minute convo I was such a fan.
Really miss him. RIP Dan.
my best friend is his niece, ash wheldon’s (his brother) daughter, we can’t wait to go see this rip 🕊️
I love this! Thank you HBO! Excited for the message!
These gave me chills...im not a Indy follower but man Dan Wheldon was something in his day... will watch certainly.
I had my doubts about the 2011 Las Vegas race before it even started. 34 cars (many out-of-date) running on a 220 MPH oval with 3 or 4 lanes. I'm glad Randy Bernard went back to riding cows. RIP Dan Wheldon. You'll always be remembered .
Welled up just watching this trailer. Thankfully didn't see DW's crash live, but still remember being so shocked and devastated when I heard the news. This will be one emotional watch.
Im already in tears watching this. Cant wait for the debut of the movie
Gives me chills. Still remember that Vegas race like it was last seaso, it was my first time seeing something like that as a kid live.
Oh Dan, we miss you boy!
Excited to see this. I’ve been working with them a couple years now with SBRS and they’re seriously special. They will be at the top.
Sad that Champ cars in the 2010s had experienced such a level of fatal danger, not since the 1992 Indy500 & 1996 Molson Indy. In 1992, Jovy Marcelo died in practice, while Nelson Piquet cut short his racing career. In 1996, Jeff Krosnoff & a track worker were pronounced dead, when Jeff collided against the racing wall down Thunder Alley.
Rip Dan. Cannot wait for this to drop.
I'm definitely seeing this. RIP.
I remember watching that crash on TV as it happened...and thought to myself..."There's no way he survived that". Wishing I had been wrong.
Dan is dearly missed... Seems like a great tribute this one 🙏
i am a formula 1 fan and dont undestood nothing obout formula indy. But, i lovo motorsport and i definitively will watch this movie.
Wow that trailer got all my feels working on me . ❤
Beyond the absolute worse crash imaginable. I unfortunately was watching that live when that crash occurred. Felt my heart instantly drop and go out to his now widow and his boys. Absolutely devastating
Forever Lionheart🧡🏁
As an avid sports watcher and a formula 1 fan i have to admit I've never heard of him and I'm British. RIP
Definitely have to see this incredible to see his wife and kids continue his legacy 😢
Beautifully done! Definately personal as a long time fan of the sport. We all remember that tragic day. Many Blessings to Susie, Oliver, and Sebastian
Have to watch this. I never saw him racing but the impact of his accident was so phenomenon. That back in my country where racing is not popular at all. Even there the newspaper published those flaming car accidents photo. And that's how I came to know about the Lionheart
This looks fantastic and I'll certainly be watching, but the choice of visually lingering on the wreck in this trailer - especially in slow motion - is a bit questionable.
Just found this @ 207am, as a fan of auto racing, this trailer made my eyes sweat. I will be watching this.
God I still remember hearing through the PA at IMS that Hildebrand hit the wall. Crazy times.
I still feel awful for Hildebrand to this day. Unless he wins the 500, he’ll never shake that off 🙁
Never heard of this man but this trailer gave me goosebumps
RIP good Sir!! 😢😢
This trailer made me tear up… what an amazing story!
I MISS HIM SOOOO MUCH !!!
YES! Cannot wait for this
Can't wait!
I have a #26 Jim beam car on the wall in my garage. One of my favorites. I’m glad I wasn’t watching. I found out after the crash but before the announcement. RIP Dan.
Awesome, this will be great. Sure it'll bring a tear to everyone's eyes. Still remember hearing about his death on the radio...13 years this year
dan will always be my hero, I stayed up late in the uk to watch his wins and sadly watched him die
Rest in Peace Dan we miss you dearly Lionheart.
Oh my goodness my heart
This documentary was so good. I hope many people see it.
I think this was what turned Danica to NASCAR, I cry for Dan just thinking about this day
Goosebumps
Miss him.
Just finished watching this and my eyes and I can’t stop crying. A very sad story but I feel sad for his wife, you can feel her pain the whole time, I feel like she hasn’t grieved because she has to be strong for her kids.
I will definitely be watching this! RIP DW
Legend...
Lionheart forever.
One of the goats. May he rest in peace
Sad Story about Dan Weldon but much respect for his Wife & the way she fights for her Kids We all love our Mom's & they love & fight for us like no one else on this Planet They sacrifice themselves for their Children & do everything possible so that we can fulfill our Dreams She's a true Lioness
I saw that race, it was such a shock.
I can't wait
trailer had me tearing up.
Can't wait to see it!
a beautiful tribute to Dan
Really can't wait for this!
Definitely remember the white sunglasses ceremony 😢
Danny was my friend. It still hurts…
Tony!!! 🇧🇷❤️
I remember this accident like it was yesterday - I've seen nothing more horrific on a race track ever and to find out he was actually testing the new Indycar with advanced safety features by giving his life in the process.....Respect! Life of a race car Driver. Rest in Power...
Oh trust me…it can get way more horrific. Gordon smiley, Tom pryce, etc
Esperando a verla
long overdue cant wait
What a driver. What a loss. RIP Dan Wheldon
God I'm gonna bawl my eyes out again 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
This is going to be AMAZING!!! 👏👏👏
Jim Clark best ever!
This was amazing never heard of him, but he was an amazing father and husband i hope his kids make it pro
What an awesome MOTHER. I hope my wife can be half of that woman is.
I'm going to have to subscribe just for this now.
Can't wait to see this Dan was a true champion and a good guy RIH Dan
It’s a good trailer when you’re crying at the end
among the best to ever do it
Las Vegas 2011 was the last Indy race i ever watched, i promised myself to never watch Indy no more, i'm a Brazilian.. he was my favorite driver alongside Castroneves, but Dan was awesome i always rooted for him watching on tv.
The best British racing driver never to have raced in F1.
Hopefully we can rent or buy this on prime or apple!
