Ok so at the end of Squid Game we learn that it was Il-Nam all along.
The final episode reveals that he invented the games as a form of entertainment for him and his rich buddies who had become bored with life. We learn that he had actually got involved in the one that we see in the show because he was dying and wanted a final bit of fun in his life before it was too late.
The ending was absolutely incredible and the scene had Gi-Hun saying goodbye to the character as he lay on his death bed. This last meeting actually reflected their first one in which he too encountered the character as he sat in a bed.
It was a pretty big twist that really pulled the rug out from under your feet but eagle eyed viewers might have spotted early on that there were several clues pointing towards his true identity.
Now the first one is that he is Number 1, the very first player. If we look at the subtext of the series, Gi-Hun is the final number and throughout we watch as he very much works his way to first place, aka Il-Nam.
In the final episode he is left as number one, he inherits a large portion of the character's fortune and comes face to face with him in one of the final scenes. 1 is symbolic on a number of levels and because it's the first place, it also hints to us that Il-Nam is number one and the one that's controlling everything.
In episode 5 Hwang Jun-Ho sneaks through the compound and he eventually finds a storage room with files on all of the games that have happened over the decades. Upon opening up the 2020 one the first player there is actually number 2 and Il-Nam's profile is completely missing.
There is no file for Number 1 because he doesn't need or want a record kept for himself.
The other players in the game also hint towards us that something is off with Il-Nam and though it's not too obvious, when you really think about it, he wouldn't be someone that would be selected for the process.
Everyone else in the Squid Game is roughly the same age whereas he is extremly elderly.

Ok
the part that gave me chills afterwards was during the marble game when il-nam starts saying "this is my old house,, my kid and his friends would play games in here and i would stand in and watch but they didnt know i was here" but this is literally the entire show summed up, all of the players are kids playing games in il-nams house without knowing that hes behind it
Yooo, Genius
Yo I never thought of that. Smart.
Good theory but i Have a better one when il-nam Said saying this is my old house,,My kid and his friends would plays games Do u guys notice Gi-hun Almost have the same gate as ilnam old house And Gi-hun dont have a dad only an old mom And Gi-hun always play squidgame and the Last game was squidgame and il-nam was the host that created the games Then Do u guys think il-nam kid was Gi-hun?
@@thinkmeme102 I just finished watching and I had this thought too! It’s possible
@@guadalupemendez6232 il-nam did mention that gi-hun reminded him of his son
That exploding glass shit made no sense, man. Sae-byok got done dirty
That was just entertainment for the VIPs. I loved that slow motion part.
True
Yeah the exploding glass thing killing her was easily the worst part for me, it's just so out of nowhere and honestly just a lazy way to kill off one of the best characters.
I thought so too at first, then remembered it would have been preprogrammed to explode for all the remaining players who didn’t make it within the time limit.
@@theamateurconnoisseur I don't get how that makes it any better... The writers made it that way lol, they could have easily destroyed the rest of the glass without killing of a main character.
I'm not arguing whether her death made sense, I'm saying the way they chose to kill her off was lame af.
Not so fun fact: In Korean culture, you must always hand a glass of water to adults with both hands as that is being respectful to them. But Gi-hun only used one hand, it just shows that he no longer respected or liked II-nam anymore after finding out that he was the one behind it all.
Also you look away when drinking and let the eldest in the group drink 1st. I visited S Korea, stayed in Seoul and Uiseong. But like you say those arw older traditions. Also I love Soju lol its so cheap over there
did he use two hands when he poured soju for him?
These small details are what sets a good show apart from a bad show!
Heavily opinionated; If it was American or European Cast it wouldn't have gotten half the success as it did.. The main casts' acting in Squid Game carried the series tbh.
@Annabelle Norwood this show top tier acting and cast from the region; more than one hand could count ... My first comment was intended to compliment the cast, the acting and imagery carried this show tenfold but if this script was in Na or Eu it couldn't be reproduced bc the depth in casting wouldn't be realistic from "payroll budget" not from lack of talent.
I think Il-Nam’s final moments were very poetic. Since he’s still alive on his death bed, he’s technically still a player in the squid game, so he plays one more childhood game with the final contestant: a bet, which ties it all together with the idea of greed, gambling and fun. Nam loses the bet, dies, and is finally eliminated from the game
did he really lose though? like another comment pointed out, he proved his point to gi-hun. gi-hun asked him why he did all that, and the old man told him "because it was fun". then at the end they made a bet involving someone else's life. and gi-hun didn't help the guy freezing in the cold, he stayed in that room and played along, he became just like il-nam, betting on a human life for the sake of a stupid game
Gi-hun might go jigsaw on us in season 2 he dyed his hair red which might not mean much or could it be subliminal? They already have all his files so He’s obviously not evading since he backed away from his flight. he has played villains before in other roles from what I’ve seen on him but Whatever happens i Gota find out what happens to front man and his brother. Backstory and everything.
@@knurdyob you’re correct
@@knurdyob i don't think what you're saying is wrong, that's a good point. I was more focused on Il-Nam himself and how he's kind of eleminated from the game by physically dying. Nice analysis though
@Jay Bee I think there's a theory going around the red and blue paper things the guys introduced to him were choices for what kind of player to participate. Blue for participant and red for masked guard.
I must admit i cried like a baby when he goes home to his mum lying dead on the floor and says "i made some money" and then lies down beside her, really puts things into perspective that people are so busy chasing money they forget the most important things in their life and dont realise it until its to late
Also it shows that his mom's death was partially his fault - at least it showed the guilt he had felt. His mom told him that if not for him losing the money and bailing out on the insurance, she would've had the surgery. This one was one of the most tragic moments in this series.
@@macieq44 it really was, it made me cry almost immediatly when he said "i made some money" this series is a masterpiece and overnight has become my favorite series ahead of peaky blinders....south koreans make the best stuff
Plus the fact he repeated “Mom I’m home!” Twice just as he laid down with her.. in a way realizing it was the last time he ever got to say that🥺
@@chelseaabigail1054 that scene, Ali's death and sang woo at the end are the saddest for me....sang wasnt a bad person he was just surviving like everyone else....i think i would stab the nicest person in the back if i was in his shoes and i know more than 99% of people would as well
But he was going to use that money to help her though but it was too late
Ali's death made me so damn mad. He was such a precious character.
SAME! HE WAS MY FAV CHARACTER TOO!
That absolutely broke my heart. Such a kind and innocent soul.
He was so damn innocent 😩😩
@@ikonic5641 that’s true
it's sad but yea, gotta be realist here. anyway given his character even if he wins this, he probably wont survive the other stages cus hes not a main chara and plus, the police went to check the records, there's only one winner every game.
I also liked the connection with the marbles and the old mans apparent mental decline. (Losing his marbles, i.e his mind) but he didn't lose his marbles, he gave them away willingly.
There’s also “this ones for all the marbles” as in marbles being money. And he’s the richest person there and stuff.
I'm sure your high school teacher will give you an A for this answer
TWISTED MIND TWISTED MIND!!!!!
I think another clue is the story he chose to tell Gi-hun about his old home: He used to watch his son and his friends play from a distance, and they wouldn't realise he was there
Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! Good catch.
Woahhhhhh thats a good one 👌
sheeeeeeeeeesh
Damn, I figured it out when we didn't see him get shot but I didn't even catch that one
Where is his son?
All of the Characters had their deaths foreshadowed
Ali- "Stole" (not really since it was his paycheck) his money from his boss. In return, Sang-woo secretively stole his marbles during the marble game
the gangster- jumped off the bridge to escape the mafia. He later died on the bridge game as he was pulled along.
Sae-byok- Threatened to kill the smuggler by pointing a knife at his neck. She later was killed as she was stabbed, on the exact same spot
Sang woo- Failed suicide attempt (the scene where he was in the bath tub). Ended up killing himself on the final game
Wowoow great observations
The Best Comment ❤️
Also I want to add that Sang-woo was drenched in rain in that final scene just as he was drenched in bath water!

I really thought they didn't show his death in the marbles game, because the director thought it would be too crude to show the death of an old man point-blank, perhaps out of criticism or fear that the public would take it too obscene, they fooled me very well , and I'm sure I wasn't the only one who thought the same thing lmao.
Yea I keep seeing this comment and that didn’t cross my mind at all. But I think it’s because Asian cultures respect elders much more.
Me too. However, he didn't fool me with the dementia act. I interpreted his actions as wanting to play, but because he was old, he didn't want to let a younger man like Gi-Hun to die when he himself was so old, so he pretended to have dementia to give Gi-Hun the chance to win.
Same i thought it was just the usual censorship bs
Mee too dude
Ya watching 100 people getting slaughtered at once isn’t going to offend people but 1 old man for sure
001 didn’t choose his shape for the second game. He took the only shape that was left from his “friends”
He had a chance to change to umbrella and said no I'm happy with star. He didn't take the hardest one ?? I loved the show and think there will be so many ah ha moments watching it a second time but I'm not sure I can get back through some of the moments that really upset me haha
The saddest part is Sang woo betray Ali. Ali didnt deserved to die. He is the best character and too kind hearted. 'Betrayal' is not from enemy. Its the people you trust called 'friend' that also backstab you from the back.
this is so true take my like
In my life, it’s usually your so called friend that back stabs you.
*stab you from the back* or *backstab you*
Unpopular opinion but, sang-woo is actually just doing that to survive. Don’t get me wrong he did betray Ali, but without sang-woo a few of the main characters will die sooner.
Yes that scene hit me the most
The first reason why I thought that the old man didn’t get scared and run away at the first game was because I thought he had nothing to lose, he’s just happy that his death would be by playing his childhood games.
Damn ...
same, he was like i dont give a fuck im having fun till the end
@@OfficialDugu I originally thought that the children playing scene was the old man, but it was the mc’s.
My thoughts exactly.
Same!! I felt so betrayed like the main character learning the truth about the old man xD
What I noticed is that Il nam was one of the only ones who was actually happy when he succeeded. Look at that big smile as he crosses the finish line in the first game. Or after the tug of war the winners are laying on the ground with torment on their faces while Il-Nam seems super content.
Also notice he had no locks on him anymore on the rope
well of course because the show had implied the man had dementia so we naturally thought he was just off his rocker
The star is not at all easier than the triangle. The small edges make it easier to snap a point off of the star. The triangle really is the only shape that is actually easy.
Circle is pretty easy as well, you can just keep breaking off tiny pieces from the outside until you get to the circle. The triangle and circle are the only 2 that are possible to win without using any unusual strategy or cheating
Not to mention that a triangle is the strongest shape in nature by default😅
All his points were grasping, the video is dumb lol
@@adamj3977 And it was not the old man's strategy that they won with.
@@XXLRebel I think you'll find it's a sphere or ovoid. Why do you think eggs are egg shaped?
One of the most devastating things of this series was the transition of the protagonist. From being his goofy and cheerful self to becoming the broken man with an empty stare. That really broke my heart.
That was brilliant. He literally transformed into 3 different characters during the series.
He lost more and more throughout the series. His money, his daughter, and those he considered his friends. Those experiences made him harder and more ruthless. Think of how life experiences can make a person go from good to bad. You could start out as a good kid but live in constant danger and loss of loved ones which could turn anyone into an animal.
Yep he went from reckless/goofy, to smart and mature, to broken and miserable
It’s symbolic that money can’t but hapiness

The EPISODE 6 of 'Squid Game' is the most heartbreaking specially the part where jiyeong sacrificed her marble for saebyeok and even thanked her for playing or teaming up with her.
This show.... is amazing
i was so sad i wanted those two to win
That’s the only part I cries the most, it’s truly heartbreaking
@@alyxrycx7862 same I also cried on that part 😭💦
Also the tug of war was so exciting
He doesn’t give his name in front so Soon-woo. This is because Soon-woo once worked in finance and Ill-nam said that he “gave people money 💰 “ that is, he was a banker. If he gave his name to Soon-woo, he would have likely recognized it and that would have blown his cover.
Good one
I just noticed something else: Il-Nam knew that he had to lose the game of marbles, whoever his opponent/partner might be, because the next game would be too dangerous for him. Gi-Hun became his partner by coincidence (and because Gi-Hun has a good heart). BUT there would have been a second possibility:
Il-Nam is the one who does not get a partner (if the number of participants is odd). He probably expected in advance that he would be the one who doesn't get a partner in this scenario because he is so old. Then the whole game would have been normal and the participants would have been told that number 1 was eliminated.
Instead, Mi-nyeo (the woman) did not get a partner, but she was left alive. Maybe because Il-Nam didn't want to punish someone for his/her weakness. Or simply because he did not want to give away his power to the group.
Edit: But he was probably hoping that he could take part in the marble game after all. In this case he could have rewarded his weak/kind-hearted partner with a free pass plus he could play another game. So, in the end, Il-Nam caught the best case scenario and got exactly what he wanted.
My theory is that he actually wanted to play along fairly but the Front Man made sure he wouldn't be eliminated
This is why when everybody was shocked at the killing on the first game.. grandpa just keep move forward with a smile.. he was thrilled
I just thought that he was excited cause he’s got nothing to lose so I was like “okay werk grandpa”

Yeah exactly
The husband and the wife scene too
@@MacarenaKramm to be honest we didnt get to know them that well and it was a surprise that he managed to get through 4 games without dying having no personality
Rip Ali he ain’t deserve that
To me, it became almost certain that he MUST be involved when he announced he's scared and the Frontman immediately ended the game. Just a moment earlier, a woman also begged for them to end it, but her head was smashed and the Frontman didn't care. I actually thought for some time that Il-Nam is the father of the Frontman, but either way, I was sure he had to be in it. Also when he said he didn't remember his name, i didn't buy it for a second.
It then was all confirmed with the marble game. The weird location (why would you have to put a fake town to play marbles? ), him acting so "senile", but actually full of joy (he should be terrified to die), searching for his house...it's as if he was excited to find that his team had used his old neighborhood and it was a fun game for him to find his house (this also works with the theory that he is Gi-Hun's dad, cause they are the only two who react to the neighborhood, saying they lived in one just like this. And Gganbu apparently means something like "from the same neighborhood"). And then of course his old house had the Squid Game sign AND he mentioned how as a father, he loved to "watch his kids (aka others) play", which seems like a hint that he loves to be the person who loves to watch people play like the contestants do in the Squid Game.
in which game he said he was scared and they ended it?
@@badisboussetta381 It's during the "riots" at night, when the players kill each other.
About the fake town bit, I am not from Korea, but from Mexico, and marbles was a popular game played in the dirt/sand in the streets of the village. There were no lawns, and something like playing inside wasn't usual due to concrete floors or just wanting to hang out with the neighborhood kids. Once they were in the fake town I immediately caught that they would be playing marbles. I just didn't expect for them to be able to make up the marble game. My dad had a friend known in our village for showing up to marbles games with a bean taco in his back pocket, which he would pull out to eat while squatting in the sandy dirt to play.
I bawled so hard when they “killed” him. I was crying so hard. The friendships in my eyes were so real. And it broke me for the marble game 🥺

Him knowing the "lyrics" to the first game isn't a unique advantage, it's literally the game itself: it isn't actually Red Light Green Light, that's just the English approximation. The game is that the person says the 10-syllable counting phrase "Mugunghwa kkochi pieot seumnida" (The Hibiscus [national flower] has bloomed) and that runners can only move forward while the phrase is being spoken, hence why it's said at varied speeds, cos... that's just the trick of how the game is regularly played, to catch some of the runners out.
Yeah but it’s the same idea….
@@ronweasly778 Yes but the point is that everyone (except Ali) knows the rules of their own game, only we outside audience don't. It's just like saying "Someone had an advantage for knowing the lyrics to 'Eenie Meenie Miney Mo' "
Yeah there were others who stopped in time, it wasnt just him. This whole video is dumb except maybe the point of the riots stopping
The most obvious clue was that they didn't show his death & hid the identity of the boss. There was no reason to hide it unless we knew who it was & that wasn't in this video

I grew so much love for Il-Nam because he’s a dying old man who just wants to have a fun time before his time is up, he’s so enthusiastic and supportive and very loyal, and most of all so mf sweet. Idk why but like after I found out he was the Host and behind everything, my heart felt broken and I felt betrayed and hurt for some reason. literally left dehydrated after watching ep 6 il nam is a fucking beast for that
I have a theory. So remember how that odd annoying girl didn't play the marble game because she wasn't chosen? That was actually designed for Il Nam as he believed that everyone will make a strong pair and he will be left alone because nobody would choose him. I believe he has played before and never reached the marble game because nobody showed him compassion like Gi Hun. This is where he has a breakthrough that some people will help others and thus the reason to not attend his guests because he has had his last epiphany.
Ah that’s such a good theory! I think you’re right.
That is probably how he expected he would "die" and people don't suspect him.
This is a really good theory.

I believe it was odd number because the doctor cheated and killed. They pointed that out in the show. Everyone knew someone would be left out because the cheater is dead. So if the doctor never cheated, everyone would've a partner by default.

Il-Nam still could've died during Tug-of-War even though he had a pretty good strategy, they started losing again, Sang-Woo was the one who came up with the amazing idea of taking 3 steps forward and winning the game, if it wasn't for Sang-Woo Il-Nam would have died.
I don’t think he was attached to the ropes, he had handcuffs on but I don’t think they were connected
I agree. That's why I felt a bit disappointed in the end. The whole story of Il-Nam organising the game seemed too inconsistent to me.
The whole thing about Old Man not being shackled to the ropes is pretty damn risky if you think about it. If his team loses and everybody falls to their death except for him, what are the other players going to have to say about that?
When he enters his "house" during the marbles game, there is a triangle/square/circle panel hanging outside the door (around 52 minutes in ep6). But I knew right away when they showed that in the records the "number 1" file was missing; from there I enjoyed every bit of the character knowing he was the man behind all this. The transition from "dementia" to sharp mind, visible throughout the marble game, is just brilliant.

Ill-nam actually wanted to quit while choosing their partners for marble game. He just sat at the corner and waited to be the one who's left out. But he was chosen nevertheless, and the curly haired lady was left out. She wasn't killed but if it was Ill-nam who was left out, they were gonna use it to cover his death. He was gonna be declared eliminated after being left out. But he had to play the marbles too since Gi-hun chose him. His plan was to leave before glass game.

I think he was genuinely participating in the death games, and could have died for real in any of the games. The reason for him dropping out alive at the marble game was he didn't actually lose, he let Gifun win with cheating, and thus it was unfair. That's why he has a rematch with him later. Also, it would be unfair for him to participate in the glass bridge game, because he knew the order you go in is important, and might have even known which ones were real or fake. There was a very heavy emphasis on the theme of being fair, and any of the other games reflected that. The only game that could have been unfair was the honeycomb one, but he didn't choose the shape, he let the group he was in choose it for him.
And he probably let 456 win because the VIPS were coming ro watch the games next episode,,, and he was the host… so it would be weird if he was playing the games while the VIPS are watching , actually he didn’t want to play the marble games , because he clearly isolated himself before the game
Yeah I agree, I think aside from some immunity for the most part if he failed he would die.
I don’t think he literally could’ve done the bridge one. He doesn’t have the stamina, or jump length etc. Probably why he forced himself out at the marble game
True, i honestly doubt he wouldnt have known all the correct tiles to step on, but still it was a risk, given whatever position he was put in, he might not have made it out alive, or the others wouldve known he was the mastermind behind the games

This series did an amazing job at making me suspicious of the old man.
First, he’s way to happy to be there. In Red Light Green Light, he seemed too happy to be playing the game. We are lead to believe that he is delusional in his old state, but most of his screen time is used showing how sharp he can be.
It did throw me when he got sick, and when he wet the bed, and of course “dying”.
But that was a great twist.
When he started counting I thought this was the man who so fell in love with the game that he comes back every year.

There’s a general rule for how this show is written. Unless you physically SEE their brains getting blown out or killed….. they’re still alive. Therefore, police officer survives the fall
True, especially since the Baddie made a point of shooting him in the same spot he just got shot by him. He could have aimed for centre mass (heart) or a headshot effectively killing him immediately (which was easy at this distance), instead he gave back the same injury he received, leaving him a chance to survive.

Funny how red light green light in English is seen as this random “RED LIGHT I CAUGHT YOU” situation whereas the Korean one is a song with lyrics where it turns around when the song ends. I have to confess that I didn't spot him, really, it was a real plot twist for me.
I intuited that the Frontman has something to do with the cop, but as for Il-nam, I explained every odd behavior of his through his dementia and old age.
I felt from the beginning that there was something... "different" about him as a player, he was the #1, he was old and sick like no other player, but I thought that somehow he was there for a reason, meant by the organizers themselves, like a jolly, an easy opponent to defeat, or something.
Another clue I found was they didn't show his casket, whilst they did with the other main players.
I started crying when Sang-woo did that to Ali. I know he had to fight for his life but Ali was so sweet and respectful. I called the ending with Gi-Hun's mom as soon as he left the 2nd time. When they reveled the II-Nam was controlling the game I gasped. I was like was he was faking that he forgot if he said odd or even to see if Gi-Hun was a good person
Yeah her foot was pretty much gangrene/infected at that point and he was gone what, about 5 days or so? She wouldn't have survived in time. Ironically though when they came back, it was for about 2 days, the same amount of time his mom stopped going out so maybe there was a chance idk
I also thought about the scene when he swore on his mothers life that he wouldn’t ask Sae-Byeok about the money she stole from him and then broke that instantly. After that I knew something was gonna happen to his mother
they were all greedy in the first place. The old man is right about having such a game.

Personally I feel like Il Nam was still putting his life at risk - especially since he was to die soon. Even with all the protection and gimmicks which give him a slight advantage, there was no guarantee that he wouldn't die by accident or be sabotaged by the other players.
We see this a lot in media and perhaps sometimes in real life too- people who have cancer or some disease which reduces their estimated lifespan always want to go out with a bang without lying down and taking it. Considering Il Nam's personality, I would say this element of risk and thrill was what made him want to participate. He had been watching the games his whole life and for one last time, wanted to know how it felt to be on the other side of the screen, being chased by death.
I usually don't like watching things when everyone has watched them, but this was good as hell. I litterally binged watched the whole series. Super Good.

I already knew from the begining that the old man was behind all this :(
Also, Ilnam gave Gihun his 001 jacket saying something like "they'll look down on you without this". At the time we thought he meant the players but he really meant the guards. The guards were most likely instructed NOT to kill anyone wearing 001, as it was Ilnam's number.
Also, I think Ilnam was humbled by the experience even if he did create it. He told the frontman something like "playing is different than watching" and decided not to watch with the VIPs. I think he began to feel guilty for being entertained by it all after getting to know Gihun and how the players are real people who took care of him, not just scum on the streets, even though it's evident he still has a bit of prejudice towards them evident in how he talked about the homeless man in the last episode.

My theory:
Cha sang woo (the smart guy), kang seo byeok (north korean girl), ali (the Pakistani) and Jang deok su (the tattoed dude) death were foreshadowed on episode 2.
Cha sang woo was about to kill his self on the bath tub and in the game he also end up killing his self. Kang seo byeok have a scene where she was talking to a guy who scammed her (the fat guy that said that he will get seo byeok mother on China), and seo byeok almost cut the scammer's neck using a knife, in the game she was also killed because sang woo slit her neck. Ali died because sangwoo stole his marbles, in episode 2 he also stole his boss money. And jang deok su was chased by some armed men on episode 2 that's why he jumped in the bridge to save his self and in the game he also died because he fell at the glass bridge.

Also, on the marbles game, when they had to chose a partner there was a pre writen rule to keep alive a person that did not find a teammate. Probably anticipating Ilnam would be left out of the group because of his age.

@@mischr13 equality amongst the players, they didn’t say that they themselves would be kind/fair. But no player is advantaged/disadvantaged by them.
I think the theory of him being selected for the marble game was out of his scope. He wasn't supposed to be picked which is why he was sitting hidden in a corner away from everyone. He was supposed to sit in the corner not get picked and exit the game but instead Han Mi-Nyeo got to survive. Which gave us the poetic justice of her killing Jang Deok-su
That’s what I though too! I’m glad they had a plan B for when ilnam did get picked and had to play the game. The staff was probably briefed about not killing anyone with the name of Il-nam. So when he told gihun his name he said it out load so the staff knew not to kill him.
Remember they had a big rule about leaving people out , just like when other kids leave one person out. I think because he picked Nam for the marble game was enough for him to let him win it and spare his life.
That makes a lot of sense, he seemed to not even have any interest in getting a partner. Whereas in the tug of war, he doesn't want to leave the team.
But the doctors death wasn’t planned or part of the game. So Il-Nam would’ve always intended to play the marble game. No one planned for there to be an odd amount of players.
I think he gave him his 001 jacket so he wouldn't get shot even if he lost .hence they both were wearing 001
The paintings on the wall weren't there in the beginning. When they were making barricades out of the beds, you could see the walls were clean.
Also, the tug of war wasn't a sure win, they could've ignored the old man's advice, and had it not been for sang Woo's plan, they would've all died. Also, what would've happened if the main character decided to stick around and watch the old man get shot during the marble game?
Guards grab him by the shirt and throw him out? Lol

The title of the last episode is ‘One Lucky Day’.
One Lucky Day is a famous short story in Korea (published by Hyun Jin-gun in 1924). The main character "Kim Cheomji" has a sick wife and lives a poor life by dragging a rickshaw. One day, when he made a lot of money and thought it was a lucky day... He bought precious food for his wife and went home excitedly. But his wife was dead. Thanks for the interesting clues. So at this point, we know the boss is one of the players. Also, the scene that showed him taking his mask off was an old man hand. Old man hand is very distinctive, age spots and wrinkly. right, which means that the detective has a strong possibility of coming back next season, because getting shot in the shoulder isn't excatly a death sentence
A lot of people miss this if they are not knowledgable of the Korean language, but il-nam's name was hidden until he got "shot" because his name is represents his place in the game. il in korean means one and nam means man, meaning il-nam is the "first man."
Il-Nam's teeth were a major reason for me to be suspicious of him from the start. There's no way that a poor, elderly person in Korea would have such a great set of pearlies as he did. It was thus implied that he wasn't poor at all and aside from the deadly tumour, was actually in fairly good physical shape for his age, again telling us he was able to afford good medical care which, unlike the EU, is a luxury in Korea.
i honestly attributed most of Il-Nam's excitement and lack of fear up to just having nothing to lose. what finally made me suspicious of him was just how quickly he seemed to completely lose his mental capacity during marbels, only to wander into a closed-off area and be just out of sight when killed. and not showing his body afterwards really sealed it.
yeah someone said there was no sound of his body dropping like there was for the others. it makes sense
The bird’s eye camera angle after Old Man gets shot made me extremely suspicious. Immediately I looked in the bottom corner to see his bloodied body laying on the ground, but I didn’t see him nor the Soldier. I thought it was highly unlikely they could shoot and run off with his body that quickly if they actually “shot” him. Which would be even more suspicious since all dead players got placed in that box.
The most suspicious thing to me was not seeing a body, that's about it tbh haha. I've learned from TOO many shows-- unless I see the body with the wound, as far as I know, they're alive. And even when I do see a body with a "wound"...Doesn't mean they're dead for sure :p
You could say he "lost his marbles" during that game
I assumed that the trauma and stress of being in a death game worsen/sped up his condition.
And the fact that the playground reminded him of his old neighborhood just spent him over the edge.
The old man didn’t pick the star. The protagonist picked the umbrella, thus leaving star as the last option. The old man paused (because he knew the game so he felt hesitant when the protagonist picked the umbrella). The protagonist picked up on the pause and asked the old man if he wanted to switch. I think the old man liked the protagonist back then but not enough to “sacrifice himself”. But he did during the marble game later on.
No. The Old man picked the star because he said he wasn’t able to see many stars at his age. Go back and watch it
It was only the 2nd game, and even if he broke the star hed still win
