Lightning does actually do that in real life! It's called electrolysis and it can be used to clean the rust off of old metals.
@HengistUndHorsa basically when lightning strikes weathered copper it will turn into fresh copper
Electrolysis do work, but I am not sure lightning itself can do it. But again, it's just a game

@@starkillerz6235 actually copper oxide (copper rust) can be reduced by hydrogen gas via the following equation CuO + H2 - > Cu + H2O although hydrogen gas is not present in abundant in the atmosphere it could be generated from the lightning strike hydrolyzing the water in the air creating oxygen and hydrogen. Thus, the reaction is possible with all the reactants and very high heat, present in a lightning strike. However, I have never seen any scholarly article documenting this specific reaction.

11:34 Oxidation is the process of losing electrons. The logic behind weathered/oxidized copper becoming unoxidized by a lightning strike is that lighting is electricity (electrons). The copper is gaining electrons (a process called reduction). However, I am not entirely sure if oxidized copper in the real world would suddenly become polished from a lightning strike.

Even if they’re not the most useful thing, sweetberries are very important to me
Renewable lava is my third favorite feature. I'm a really ecologically conscious Minecraft player, and the fact that lava was technically finite always made it difficult for me to be willing to use it unnecessarily. Now, I can lava-furnace to my heart's content and not worry about the small pool I am slowly draining in the world, or about wasting a lot of fuel power on only a few things.

Same man, ecologically conscious here too. I'm the same with my nearby forest, and the same with lava. Literally everything.

I was really looking forward to using Calcite in some of my builds, but it only being found in Amethyst Geodes is going to make it such a rare block that I might have to abandon that plan. I was hoping that Mojang would include some sort of crafting recipe (like Diorite + Tuff), or perhaps they would make it tradable with a Stonemason. As it is, it’s the only new block that’s neither farmable nor available via trading nor abundant enough in the world to be easily attainable.

The deepslate emerald ore does spawn naturally, my house is in a mountain biome and I have seen it while going mining many times.

I’m definitely supportive of the ore texture change. Some people aren’t because it changes how the ores have pretty much always been, but as a colorful person, I find it useful
I’m opposed to it for the reason you said… I’m a Minecraft veteran, played since 2011 so naturally I’m gonna be a conservative :/
I wish they gave us an option to keep the old ore textures. It’s not that the new ones are bad looking, it’s just an unwanted change imo.
@@HazyHaydn Right, I definitely understand that, I liked to old textures, but I also find the new ones useful, and I get that not everyone does. An idea for you, you may be able to find a texture pack that doesn’t change anything, but the ores, and makes them how they used to be

The reason copper changes when struck by lightning is caused by electrolysis and the reacted oxygen within the oxidised copper breaks its bonds with the copper causing the output to be oxygen + copper.

They may have added 136 new features but it just feels like none of them have enough substance to make them actually worth implementing until the full update

Maybe for you all but as someone who does a lot of builds this is a really handy update for me
It has just occurred to me (not sure why it took this long) that splitting the update also will make 1.18 much less exciting. I mean, all the new blocks and mobs (except for some confined to the deep dark) will have already been available for use for six months, as well as a lot of the small side features (infinite lava, getting hurt by pointy rocks, raw metals, dripleaves, spy glasses, lightning rods, powdered snow and freezing in it, and so on). 1.18 will just be the new cave and mountain generation, with a few things that are truly new to survival in the deep dark (and the totally new warden). They may actually succeed in shooting themselves in the foot twice here. 😓
The copper stuff is complete enough. Amethyst too, really. But yeah everything else just isn't
You could almost use the copper changing colors when struck by lightning to determine when the last rainstorm was in your world. It would be interesting to see if there is a pattern in how the rain system works.

The things people have done with candles in builds is incredible. Cactus flowers, cattails, sword & lightsaber handles, dynamite, the list goes on.
This is not the first time Mojang split update. The adventure update was split into Beta 1.8 and Release 1.0

I recommend using amethyst blocks as floors and putting carpet on them if you're making a fantasy build, because the sounds they make when you walk on them is kinda, well magical
