In Australia, thereโs a strict policy of respecting employees. You canโt talk sh*t to hardworking customer service employees. And thatโs how it should be. We respect you, you respect us. Also, tipping good service generously is always a good idea.
We need rules like that over here in America; but until then we're stuck kissing customers asses with our bot ass bosses
"I'm Australia"....this made me piss myself laughing, and not in a "you're an idiot because you didn't put an n at the end of Australia" way, it's just the concept of a continent posting on a YT thread and being very proud of it!
Good on ye Champ, you're a fhaaakin' Legend!
In many places that I worked, if someone is being disrespectful you can refuse their service and if they refuse to leave just call the police because they're probably on private property. If you're not a manager at all, then get a manager. You should have some extra patience while you're at work, but there is no reason to deal with someone as unruly as the old man in the video.

With every customer that loves you there's one that literally act like you're ruining their life when nothing is your fault and you just work here ๐
"Your machine is out of ice! My day is ruined!"
It's definitely not a 1:1 ratio, and it's not skewed in favor of the nice customers, unfortunately.
My life is ruined!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All because you don't have an extra ketchup packet!!!!!
I left the drive thru window and they forgot my straw and a napkin. I did not go back and complain. Does that make me one of the nice customers or one of the normal ones, which DO outnumber the bad ones by many many many many times?
Where is my EXTRA OUNCE of KECTCHUP in my BURGER... I *MEASURED IT!*
One of the hardest things Iโve had to learn in customer service is that some people just want to be mad at someone.
I could never be in customer service. I like to think I'm generally a nice person like I wouldn't ask for my order to be corrected if it's wrong as long its not seafood I'll eat it and I have 4 other siblings so my patience is quite long but if you get mad at me for nothing to the point of wanting to fight? I would just leave the store completely and take my break early because once that patience is out there is anger
its literally how many people get freebies. they know that if they complain, most places allow customer service to compensate to some degree. at some point you know the company you work for is being suckered, but you say nothing. Well, I am an owner that doesn't put up with it. If you used the product, and there is nothing wrong with it, you cannot have a refund. Its why the girl that make slime with mixins and glitter and shiz no longer does refunds. Its why even walmart has stopped a lot of that and requires id.
โโ@@who-why-what I thought the same thing, but after working at a gift and delicacy shop (in Germany) as a parttimer while studying for almost a year now, I've realized that it highly depends on what kind of store you work in and thus what kid of people you'll be mostly seeing. I'm really sensitive to other people's emotions so I was kinda scared working there at first, but up to now I've only had like 3 or 4 actual bad encounters with customers. Of course there were some weird people or tight lipped ones, but mostly they were glad to have someone help them with finding a gift and wrap it up nicely or being able to taste some of our stuff before deciding to buy it :D
Christmas is of course stressful as heck, but I think that's in every store the case ^^

Unfortunately there's a lot of people like that.
Sometimes I feel like people like that never had any interest in the food in the first place.
Sometimes I think they wake up and think to themselves "I want to yell at someone, but I need to have a reason, so I'm gonna go to the nearest food place and find something to get mad about".
@@dubiousinformation1756 Anger is addictive. Twitter and lots of other forms of social media, protest, outrage, cancel culture, people usually don't want solutions, they just want to be mad and they want an easy target to direct being mad at. It's culturally acceptable to be cantankerous and hostile. Anger is a useful emotion, but it needs a purpose that can be resolved to keep us or others safe or it quickly becomes an addiction as well as toxic.
I feel sorry to that old guy if that was his motive and he's just a bitter person who wants to spread the misery. At the same time, it needs to not be tolerated, because even if it's sad, people like that are out to hurt others, even if it's just to ruin their day because misery loves company. I would have said well if you want don't want a "small sized cone" instead of the "child sized cone" you can order the "wawa baby sized cone" (just the child sized cone with spit in it) since you're acting like one, and by how "old" you look it seems like you need a diaper so it's VERY fitting.

Hi

Your sense of timing in your storytelling is so damn great; I'd be a fan just based on the audio alone.
2 weeks in to my first job, the bathroom had acrylic paint squirted all over the walls, ceiling, and floor. It looked like an abstract art exhibit, and while we could repaint the wall and ceiling, the floor is still stained to this day.
A good way to deal with customers like this that rant at you while refusing help is to just ask them directly what they want you to do, like what the owner of the ice cream shop did. It made the old guy realise that he was getting nowhere because even he didn't know what he wanted from them at that stage, so the only thing to do was to just leave awkwardly.
Iโve had to do this several times; a customer is complaining to me about something, so as soon as I can get a word in, I immediately tell them their options and apologize for whatever upset them. Several times Iโve gotten the โoh, I donโt want you to do anything about it. I just wanted to tell you something was wrong.โ *Huh?!*
Why are people like this i can never understand
I did this and got fired anyway. Just a warning that it might offend the Karen even more to do this. However, if you have a good manager, which I didn't at the time, I'm sure they'll take your side.
Similarly, is baffles me how often people are dumbfounded when you simply ask them "why?". Like they never even try to think about justifying their actions or beliefs, just letting raw emotions rule them, and when you expose that they immediately feel stupid.
In my experience, people like this just want to vent and be mad and they don't want to be helped as they're only interested in sh***ing all over the customer service rep they're actively abusing.
As someone who worked in customer service: some people go into shops/call hotlines *just* to argue. 100% this dude didn't even really want icecream lol
Yep ๐. When some people feel lonely or powerless and then try to take their emotions out on anyone they can. Which inevitably makes people want to spend less time with them. It's sad.
Like the prank callers that just about made one of the MODs (Manager on Duty) where I worked loose it, we were super busy and that stupid phone wouldnt stop ringing for probably 2 hours
This ladies and gentlemen, is why society is kind of broken.
โ@dingalingdongly and his legacy when he dies will be to be remembered as the story, miserable old man who wanted everyone's time.

@@RadiantSharaShaymin I've seen businesspeople unplug their phones because of callers like this. Iโve worked in retail for 5 years now and if there is one thing Iโve learned itโs that if you want good service be friendly and respectful to the employees. I myself and most of the people I work with currently will do anything we can to help you if you are polite. You start giving us a hard time and forget it.
I think everybody should have the experience of working in some customer-facing job just to better understand that sometimes, things just don't go well and you need to be patient and understanding with the people that are providing a service to you. It would make for a happier world.
All depends on the management. I've had times when I've given the rude customer what they want because, despite upholding policy, I know if a manager comes down they'll overwrite me and tell me off for wasting their time when I could have handled it myself.
Might as well save time and a tongue lashing at that point
That is what I tell my customer service. I tell them that they do not have to put up with a single bs thing out of a single customer. They can hang up, walk away, refuse to answer, block them from the page, etc. Given the choice, they often just deal with the person the way that person needs to be dealt with. They are in that unique situation and have common sense and know what needs to be said and done. My customers allow me to continue to do business, but I am responsible for the experience my employees have. I cannot let people just abuse them.
I'm curious to know how to make things better :/
I was waiting in line and there was a mother ahead of me. I had like, 10 things in my cart. The mother ahead of me had her whole entire cart full of lots of stuff, but the cashier was almost done. He stalled and stalled for at least 10 minutes, wasting the mother's time until another cashier took over. (She blasted through all of the mother's stuff and then my stuff and I was out in under 2 minutes i swear lmao she was a champ.) By this time, three other people were waiting behind me.
I had him before a few months prior. Like I normally do, I said nothing while I put my stuff on the conveyor belt, hurried through the checkout process and hoped I wasn't bothering anyone. The cashier trash talked the magazine I bought.
It was really obvious he didn't want to deal with me in both instances. I 100% get that a cashier's job is HORRIBLE and EXHAUSTING. One time this other cashier accidentally dropped something while he was rushing through my stuff and he asked if I wanted to replace it but I said "no that's okay, that's fine."
I literally don't do or say anything and I don't really care the state of my items, just as long as I get out of checkout alive with all my stuff because checkout causes me anxiety. Juggle my items for all I care and kick-box me out of the line, I just want it done and over with and I want to get out of the way as soon as I can, just like the cashier does.
What did I do that was so offensive and wrong to this man? What do I need to do to make sure I don't piss off another cashier where they hold up a line by stalling? Sometimes I wish I could say sorry to this man that I exist and that I'm sorry that I have to eat. We're all struggling to get through life and If I didn't have to, I would never go to the store or bother cashiers ever again.
Caught my boys watching this. Next day Iโm watching it again by myself chuckling like an idiot. Hahaha!
Please never stop making videos. You're the only creator that makes me laugh every time.
Pretty much my favorite thing about being a manager is being able to just end these kind of interactions. I feel so great just telling someone that they can just leave, or that they don't have to come back again.

Like she got mad that I didn't ask her where she wanted her groceries to go immediately after saying hello to her and taking her money (drive thru grocery pickup). Totally redonk.
I wouldโve said something and then in the middle of my sentence hang up so it sounds like the call drops ๐

@@p-__ hell yeah brother
Some customers think it's a contact sport, like they literally think it's fun to be a derk.
my fav hobby is listening in on customer/employee interactions that get Slightly heated to see if i need to step in on behalf of the employee. i love defending retail workers.

I have a customer service story that still makes me laugh till this day:
I used to work at a chicken place in my city. It was very popular and is always busy later in the evenings. It was Sunday, early evening, before dinner rush and a family came in with their two screaming children. At this point I went to lunch before dinner rush so my coworkers had to deal with them. When I came back I had no clue what was going on but these two little kids were coming up to the counter bawking at us like chickens. My coworkers and I ignored it, previously I guess, the children tried to get some stickers that the restaurant gives out to little kids. But the husband said that his children weren't allowed to have them. The children have been running around, screaming, crying, bawking, and throwing our straws on the ground because they weren't allowed to have the stickers. Eventually the husband gave in and tried to give them the stickers. My boss was already annoyed at the children so he told me not to give it to them. I tell the customer, " I am sorry, but I am not allowed to give you the stickers". The husband gets annoyed at me and tries to bribe me $20 to give him the stickers. I tell him he will have to speak to my manager. My manager comes out and tells him "he is not allowed to have the stickers." The wife has come up at this point and the husband starts raising his voice. My manager then says, "That he is sorry that he can't parent his children and that he is not going to award them for this type of behavior." In shock I hand them their food and they walk back to their table. We giggle and say "Nice job" to the manager. Then the husband comes back with the food 5 minutes later and shoves it over the counter and spilling it everywhere. The husband then says that he wants to speak to the manager and wants his name & owners number. My manager comes out and says yeah I'll go get it. He pivots in a circle and says "Hi I am the regional manager of this store and the owner what can I do for you?" The husband freaks out and complains about how disrespectful he is and how he will never come back there again. My manager says then ends it with "Okay have a nice day and don't come back". The family then dragged their screaming children out the door and I never saw them after that. Just to give context, my manager was one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He is so funny, kind, and overall a good guy. So when he did this and talked this way, my jaw dropped. After this incident, my boss door dashed us Starbucks just because of the sass we witnessed that day. This is definitely a core memory for me.
Manager was parenting the dad the way the dad needed to parent his kids!
W boss
If we had societal standards for how children should behave in public (like we used to), and reinforced them where appropriate (like we used to), our society at large probably wouldn't be the steaming pile of $#!+ it is now.
Kudos to your manager! Wish more would do this and not accept that kind of behavior in their establishments. Servers do reserve the right to refuse service.
This is exactly the right way to deal with this. Do not give in to unreasonable demands and do not reward people (especially children) for misbehaving. Your manager is a lot better than me, by the way, I would have ordered them to leave the moment they came in with screaming kids. I am not going to allow your crotch goblins to cause a disturbance in my restaurant just becuse you can't parent them.
โ@@HickoryDickory86 like we used to? Lol. Bad parents always existed. I remember being a kid in the '90s and still seeing parents letting their kids run around. And instead of the parents seeing anything wrong with their parenting, they blamed TV and video games. Before then, it was common for rich people to not even spend time with their kids and just hire nannies to raise them for them. Unless you're implying we should go back to beating children, to which I say, that says a lot more about you than it does about society. There are numerous psychological studies that show the negative effects of beating children. We've moved on from that and made it illegal for a reason.

Shout out to Tony, keeping it real since 1977
I love how Andyโs character lost his hoodie and became shorter and wider and his videos are so good I watch the sponsor ship
He is the only KRplusr I don't skip the sponsor message. He makes them fun.

This is the only guy that can possibly make every sponsor possible enjoyable.
I recommend Internet Historian cause he also makes great sponsor segments.
@@reddytoplay9188 i reccomend LazyPurple he also does nice sponsor segments
The snail has my kids at gun point
Him and Gingerpale are the best at it
I guess I should comment here... This is my story from Reddit and I can validate all of it. Huge shout out to Ice Cream Sandwich as you made this way more entertaining than I did.
I notice a lot of people in the comments giving kudos to the owner/manager. I can vouch, he was a great guy and defended us to the death. After this incident he sat me down and told me "the next time someone complains about how things are done here tell them the owner has an asking price for the store and if you want to pay it, you can make the decisions".
The store was sold and he is now retired, but I have a lot of memories from there!
I guess someone found the asking price affordable xD
Huh, it never occurred to me that these aren't really guys stories.

my favorite experience was working cashier at an unnamed pharmacy let's call something like "walgreens", card reader breaks down one day and an old guy comes into get stuff for doordash and gets told the standard, "we're very sorry, our card reader is not working right now", so he goes off for a solid 20 minutes about why would I in particular do this to him, holding up the line, getting told the same thing by my boss who he continues to berate in my place
I actually had a wonderful customer named Tony. Worked at a gas station that also sold pizzas and subs and I always worked the closing shift. Everytime it was a crap fest of angry customers, broken machines/gas pumps, random kids coming and destroying things, etc. he would always come in and be the best person who tried to make our day better. He was patient, understanding, told people off for giving me and the cook grief, and made kids clean up what they broke if he caught them doing it. He will always be my favorite customer, even though I don't work there anymore.
I've been dealing with a customer JUST like this old man all week! He keeps whining and complaining about his problems, but refuses to accept any of the completely reasonable solutions I offer him... Spoiler! It's my five year old son. So I guess the old man DID need the child size, because that's how he was acting.

@@p-__ Interesting conclusion to make. Also what makes a fart "better"?
I dunno. Smell? Length? Sound?
Thatโs so funny
i love how in these videos his audience is always in distress when the sponsor comes up but if you look at the play bar almost nobody even THINKS about skipping those segments
He does a great job of injecting his humor into the otherwise bland ad. ZeFrank and a few others pull it off too and they're really a treasure.

This guy is the only one who makes sponsorships fun.
I had something similar happen at Lowes. Lowes gave this guy a delivery estimate. His item had not arrived by the delivery estimate, so he came in to complain and demand his item (maybe he thought we just magically had this item we don't carry in the store in the back somewhere) His item was being shipped via FedEx. I pulled up his order, gave him his tracking number, showed him the website where it said where exactly his order was and why it wasn't here yet. I had done every possible thing I could have done for the guy, but he yelled at me for like 5 minutes until yeah, eventually a manager had to give the "What do you want us to do and we'll do it." speech.
The absolute worst thing about customers like that is he ended up getting like...25% of his order refunded. It was on a store gift card, but still. He basically got rewarded for screaming at me. And that's a huge part of the problem with modern retail culture.
Be the customer you'd like to serve at a job. Simple as that.
Also, headbutting a subscribe button is good. Gonna headbutt it twice because I'm already subbed.
You've given words to that which I strive to spread across the land, I will quote this for the rest of my life
Wise words
Basically the golden rule.
Sad that a lot of people can easily throw it into the trash, especially in a service situation.
The way that both the employee and the owner managed the situation was amazing, and your animation is always super entertaining and fun, Icecream!
Wrinkly old man gets angry because the smallest ice cream is called "child size"...smh
I love this creator so much he always puts out 10/10 content. I've watched this video like 5 times now.๐
