He is now paralyzed.
He is the master of timing. He gets to the drums at the precisely right moment and doesn't miss a beat, with his hands or feet, while his voice remains perfectly steady. That is talent we don't see anymore.
NEVER interrupt the Master when he is on the drums, he's been playing them since he was 5yrs old, and he's one of the best drummers in the world,!!

Right, these kids don’t know nothing about our music. They need to learn respect. Don’t pause a classic.
The message behind his song is that he was going through a divorce. His ex wife had cheated on him and years after divorcing her, he wrote this song about it. The betrayal and love lost. The words,” I saw them with my own two eyes”, it’s all been a pack of lies”. He’s mad and everything gets you up to the drums. Then he releases his anger, emotions etc in the culmination of the song. He’s a master. Not many can touch him. I’ve seen him in concert twice and he’s AMAZING. His live versions can almost always be better then the studio release.

Exactly that was hilarious I discovered this video because everybody knows the song but when I saw this video I had to share it. It's on my playlist. I've worn out three sets of air drums playing this.
Way back in prehistory I played in a band that did this song. Every time we played it every guy in the place air-drummed that lick.
It inspired some of us to take playing the drums. I was one since 1988. He still rocks big time.

I saw Genesis at knebworth in about 1993 ..
Absolutely phenomenal, Phil came on dressed in a black T shirt and jeans just like a regular bloke off the street, but his voice was even better than studio versions, druming of course was first class , outstanding performance, what a day that was 👍🎶🎵.
There was a funny moment on that day aswell ,phill noticed a bloke up a tree behind us ,and they panned the camera on him so the audience could see the bloke on the screen ,who then decided to relieve himself from up in the tree 🤣🤣
He is a genius! Love, love, love him, song writer, musician, performer, actor, all round brilliant man. The best we are so proud of him🇬🇧
I'm 76 and from the Haight Ashbury in San Francisco. The world is very small. Loved Genesis and love Phil Collins even more. He's better now than he was then.
Phil was a legendary drummer for years before he was like "yeah, I guess I can kind of sing? maybe?" I love seeing people who don't know that react to him live for the first time. Great reaction!

This live is better than the studio version, and that is so rare. Also: It shouldn’t be physically possible to pound drums while singing smoothly. But he made it look effortless.

One of the beautiful things about Phil Collins is he is now touring with his son who now plays the drums. He’s just as good as his dad!
His son does the solo portion effortlessly as did his dad! Phil can’t do it anymore because of his health.

He didn't start as a drummer, he is the drummer. Always has been.
He also did a few years as the Genesis front man.

These new so called artists…I’m sorry but are a joke. This man created this song in the 80’s when I was 12’ years old…I’ll never forget it because I got “goosebumps” when I heard it back then. THE INTRO SETS THE SCENE. Sets the mood. This song isn't like any other song on the planet. You have to ease into it and the beat drop is EVERYTHING. The electric guitar, the piano and his voice is ALL you need until the beat drops for the most EPIC drum solo in history in any song. Phil is PURE GENIUS.

This performance is in 2006 when he was 55 years. The song was released in 1981 when he was 30 (and still had hair).
Love to watch another human being who can "feel the music" I watch these reaction videos over and over because it's so cool to see that moment when people experience what true great musicians can create when the work together.
I saw Phil perform this live in 1982 or 83 at Indiana University. Best concert I have ever seen. I am older and have seen quite a few. ❤

Also his performances with Genesis, My favorite of theirs is - Home by the Sea/Second Home by the Sea Life From Wembley in 1992(?)
