And if she didn't go as public as she has, there's a solid chance that there wouldn't be nearly as much knowledge of this event. I was asking the exact same thing. It lasted for 9 years meaning she was 24, she could've stopped going. Not saying she did or didn't enjoy it but how do you keep going back after you're grown to allow him to do that. Now that she exposed him, do they continue attending service?! Whose to say they still ain't doing it and she's pulling that act to keep from getting caught and shamed.
It's not like a normal breakup. Aside from the abusive, grooming manipulation that makes victims feel codependent to their abusers, she would have had to give up her church - her community, the root of her faith, her place for sacred gathering. As it stands, it took till now, when she has her own family in the form of her loving, supportive husband, to be able to separate herself from the leader of an institution whose holistic luster had long been tarnished.

My manager at my first job was 25 and I was 16 when he started grooming me… 17 when we did the deed. I didn’t have a great relationship with my father at home; emotionally and in general. So it was like a 2 for 1 package for me; a handsome older guy that made me feel special and an older guy I was also attracted too bc of the age difference and looking for a father in. He dumped me 3 weeks after he had sex with me in the most humiliating way for another 17 year old at the place I worked.

As one who deals with this sort of thing professionally, I’m wondering why she allowed this to go on for 9 years and only went public after being confronted by her brother?? I find that very troubling. She continued this until she was 25; well into adulthood. At some point this had to become at least somewhat consensual.
The pastor has a insincere apology. The pastor message made no sense. God forgives the humble and truthful. As a victim myself, I’m proud of the lady for standing up to her abuser.

She did not move away because she had been groomed so long she was incapable of recognizing the harm that was done to her. That is what grooming is. It normalizes abuse. When there is no witness to the abuse the victim endured for years and years, he/she often do not even do not recognize or admit even to one self the extent of the abuse. The victim has been groomed to believe that he/she is to blame or that what happened to him/her was normal. Psychologically it helps a long term victim of abuse to have a witness tell them that what happened was wrong. In this case the witness was a traumatized sibling who came forward and talked to her and made her realize the scale and degree of the abuse and how as a child she was never to blame.

Some years back, a young girl that was placed in the care of her Father’s brother was being abused by this man. She confided in my younger sister, my younger sister told me. I was so angry and appalled. I told her I will tell her brother or her parents, she begged me not to, that they will be angry with her and punish her, that it’s her fault.
I felt so sorry for her.
She’s even been groomed by her parents that any harm that befell her it’s her fault. Imagine that!

So, looking back I don't understand why I didn't tell my Mom the first time that it happened to me but keeping silent about the abuse does happen a lot with victims. I said something to my friend, who unbeknownst to me was being abused by the same guy. That emboldened her to tell her Mother what was going on. Then her Mother got in touch with my Mother and a third Mother, who also got the same guy to babysit her children, was informed about what was going on. She took it upon herself to call the police. The police questioned the babysitter but they couldn't find anything to press charges against him. Many years later I found the babysitter on social media and gave him a piece of my mind. Naturally he denied what he did, called me some rude names and blocked me. I sent a message to his sister to warn him about what he did to me when I saw pictures of her baby daughter and how she let him see her.
A pastor did it to me too in FL. He has been on blast before for sleeping with a married woman and got caught. It was all over the radio stations. The church did nothing. They to this day sweep it under the rug. I haven’t been to church since. It really took my trust away. It did something to me.

Often the pastor gets off on administrative leave, PAID, until the victim(s) quit the church, then the abuser is free, cuz the victim is perceived as wrecking the church. It is truly sick.

If she was groomed from childhood it’s not really surprising. Yes, her faith says that sex outside of marriage no matter the age is a sin, but if he was her pastor, I doubt she ever learned much on that lesson. I feel so, so bad for her, for those being mislead in the congregation, and for anyone else he may have targeted. Ok, the age of consent is 16. So the pastor didn't make any laws. The relationship lasted for years and the pastor even performed at the wedding. Something doesn't sound right.

I'm confused. Started at 16 (the age of consent in her state) and lasted 9 years, til she was 25. Why didn't she stop it or bring it forward well before now? She continued to attend the church, even had this pastor perform her wedding ceremony. Then continued to attend the same church, possibly even had her children baptized by the man who "molested" her. Never informed her husband until recently. Those conversations should have happened before she married her husband. Many more questions than answers here.

I have learned that people can forget what has happened specially in SA instances and years and years go by and they slowly start remembering things. They experience those horrible moments again and again by triggers. It is HORRIBLE I CAN NOT IMAGINE THE PAIN! Sending lots of love and care to everyone who is dealing with something
