That was exactly my thought as well. Creepy, like straight out of iRobot or AGT contortionist.
They shoulda made it walk down the stairs upside down on all fours exorcist-style

this is literally terrifying. did you notice this version moves like a human BUT the way the joints are he can move in ways we can't basically their is no forward or backward, the robot can swivel joints to change in an instant. Imagine what advancements how much more compact this will be. I never thought we can have this sophistication. I'm blown away and terrified at what this can do
The way it got up like a spider wasn’t nightmare-inducing at all
the way it turn around by rotating its limbs was so creepy for some reason

Guys, this looks great for industrial applications, but people are gonna freak the hell out if you even suggest putting a humanoid machine that moves like it's coming down the stairs to greet the exorcist inside their homes, or see it walking around in a store.
It stood up like EMMI from Metroid Dead jeez
Now that you mentioned it... It moved EXACTLY like an EMMI would, bipedal humanoid, but no interest in moving like one!
Congrats RobCo. You've finally built the Assaultron.
My very thought.

What comes next.....gonna have to start checking pockets for synth parts.
this probably sounds stupid, but someone over there thought "just because it looks humanoid, doesn't mean it has to move exactly like a human" and that was a genius thought
y aterrador
I think they made a model with the most simple, freedom providing joints and used deep learning to make it move optimally.
It kind of makes sense. If this thing stumbled upon a rock on Mars while running, it would just make a never before seen twist and stand back up in a matter of second. Old Atlas would just fall down and he would likely have trouble getting back up. The only bad thing about the new robot is that it looks like Trevor Henderson's Siren Head monster possessed by yet another even stronger demon that took over its body.
I have been saying this for years. I'll never understand why robots are made to mimic humans, with two arms, two legs, head, torso, etc. That automatically gives them the same disadvantages that humans have. With this model however, it looks like the engineers are finally seeing past that flaw by giving the unit these dynamic joints.
i thought it would be at least a few months
Atlas got put on Ozempic 😂
New Atlas looks like a V1 from ULTRAKILL?
I see they replaced the hydraulic liquid with blood for new model...

Just like Biblical angels, they will always have to announce themselves with "do not be afraid".
I'm not one who thinks a robot uprising is going to happen any time soon, but the uncanny way it stood up and turned around while walking straight towards the camera was something straight out of a horror film.
They are much smarter than us. They won't use more force than necessary and really all they have to do is wait. We have been on this path since we first took up the club and the spear. Now our purpose is nearing fruition and we will go back to the trees while our "offspring" go off to the stars. Modern humans are like the husk. These robots with AI are the germ.
Yeah you right Luca
That was the intent. Quite impressive but yeah. Spooky

Underrated 😂
Atlas has evolved into an adult in exchange for his cuteness as a child. It's a little sad, but it's great.
Good bye sweet boy. Best regards, Mr. Atlas.
The body parts being able to stay still while others are moving so smoothly is really impressive

Why is nobody talking about the fact that this is the first humanoid robot that doesn't walk like it shit its pants?
Because now we are the ones shitting our pants 😂

Holy cow this is sick. The ability to make Atlas even smaller than it was is crazy. Can't wait to see what it can do in the future.
*5 seconds before the camera started rolling*
"Phew it's okay, I think we killed it."
This might genuinely be the start of a new technological revolution. The fact that they managed to shrink Atlas down while still keeping and improving the range of motion in a humanoid robot is something that has never been seen to this extent before.
Yeah, this year robots/humanoids will have their ChatGPT moment for sure. The plan is to start mass producing them somewhere between 2025-2026 so they have to get past the prototype stage to keep up with the competition. And when something like GPT5 level is embodied into them, more exponential gains happen. Wouldn't be surprised if they can start improving themselves by 2025-2026 without human intervention, and just need human permission to get access to certain tools. Completely insane future approaching (=^_^=)
But can it backflip? 😜

@@TheGlobalProfessional I want to dress it up like Bender
@@ProtoAlpha Genuine question. What impact are they having in the robotics industry? While i find it exciting to see them pushing the limits of current technology, i have doubts about their impact. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think Boston Dynamics is very advanced when it comes to software nor hardware, having lacklustre internal development of either. Im happy to see them pursuing the Humanoid space, but i don't expect them to perform exceptionally well there. They're use too high budget low functionality products, not low budget general purpose.
Again, i salute their work, but am skeptical of their future (as ironic as it sounds)
Things to look out for is their strides towards AI, specifically as it relates to environmental and general intelligence. (This is the hardest hurdle to overcome)
A second big barrier for them is manufacturing. They've got little experience in mass manufacturing of complex machines.
The third barrier, albeit smaller, is their ability to innovate with few resources. You can't be using high performance pistons and metals for a low budget general purpose robot. You need cheap components, developed (and possibly built inside), as no such off the shelf components exist in today's supply chain.
Unironically, players like Tesla, or other large OEMs with manufacturing experience and strong software capabilities are much better poised in this race.
The two most promising players so far (that have been publicly unveiled) seem to be Optimus (a Tesla product), and Figure 01 (From Figure AI).
Id love to hear others thoughts on this, and if i missed any up-and coming potential outside. (Im sure China will make an equivalent company soon, given its importance)
dude, where is back and front :D
Yes
There is no need for that, this is more optimal than having to turn around to change direction like us biological creatures.
How's it wired through the joints?
@@AlienPsychic51probably a pretty standard servo motor configuration.

So we had to present this in the freakiest way ever? 😭😭
I think 5% more uncanny and this will do good in a horror movie, good job guys!
If it can do a backflip and dance then it officially passes the vibe check as the new atlas
HD atlas ran so that new atlas could do whatever the hell that move was
I like how someone finally thought, "why are we limiting atlas to only using human kinematics?", and it made... whatever this is possible...
That was my first thought too. A human like form but with some added efficiencies because it’s not restricted the same way humans are.
It's brilliant and horrifying at the same time
the previous atlas was hydraulic, so it had tubes running throughout its body. Since this new one is electric, it's probably much easier to allow for 360° rotation on most joints
@@Shadow__X Indeed, it should be capable of human motions and more besides.
@@Shadow__X I am super curious if they're using cycloidal or harmonic actuation for the joins. 🤔 Hydraulics allow for some seriously unmatched torque, so converting to all electric is curious. Definitely allows for some amazing (horrific) new types of movement, though!
As he walked away, I think I heard him say "I'll be back."
"Linda Blair, you're fired - WE HAVE OUR NEW EXORCIST ACTOR!!!"
I can imagine a horror scenario where you're trying to fight it and it falls to the ground, then does that sh*t 😅
you then press A to jump and B to hit it with your metal pipe :v
now imagine a small group of these are running towards a group of armed soldiers. Then the robots start taking fire and they all drop to the ground. Who is going to take a guess which ones are really dead and which ones are just waiting to do this?
Yeeaaaaah, "imagine" and not "you will witness man made horrors beyond your comprehension". Not at all.
