- Inside the Pillow Lab captures works in process by artists during their COVID-compliant residencies. The Pillow Lab, the Pillow’s year-round center for research and development, provides artists the crucial space and time in development, research, and technical stages of choreography-driven projects.
Dorrance Dance returned to Jacob’s Pillow for two weeks at the end of 2020 to develop new choreography and music, celebrating their first in-person rehearsals together since March. Led by the artistic team of Michelle Dorrance, Josette Wiggan, and Nicholas Young, Dorrance Dance is one of the nation’s leading tap dance companies, exploring what is most thrilling, brilliant, and beautiful about tap dancing-that it is, at once, movement and music.

Artistry is beautiful WORK!
Great sequence through the studio in one take!! Loved it. Love to all dancers on here!
Tears in my eyes. Love you all! Keeping dance alive. Keeping hope alive. Giving me life.
Fantastic and inspiring. Thank you.
BRILLIANT JOYFUL INSPIRING - Thanks to the Pillow for continuing to keep dancers moving, creating, sharing and thanks to all of these Dorrance artists bring a smile to my face!!
Moving and creating? I guess pigs in a stock yard do the same thing too.
I've loved dance since a tiny child. That's too small. I was an abused tiny child and seeing tap on tv made me feel alive and seen. I've not taken, but dance, and especially tap is central to who I am in the same way jazz is, even though I don't play it, or hip hop, even though I don't rhyme;) Watching this I was overcome and cried over and over. They were tears of strong feeling. I love Dorrance Dance. I was glad I saw them here in SF before the plague times. I'm poor, but I find money to see them. Who knows when I'll see them again, but this eased my jonesing, and I hope for this year or next.
Such an amazing and inspirational piece of art! Brought joy to my heart and tears to my eyes!
I had to dust off my tap shoes tonite! THanks for bringing us this joy.
‘
so proud, so happy!! A beautiful show!! Thank you Jacobs Pillow for giving Nelida a forum.
I LOVE YOU ALL SO SO MUCH
thank you so much for the comment about having all this time but no inspiration...a relief to know i'm not failing to be creative all by myself....
All the feels! I always wanted to learn tap...life yada yada yada, finally learned as an adult and danced recreationally for several years. Haven't tapped now in several years but rather got into (Limon) contemporary as Chair of a small dance company near Toronto, CAN. This has brought much elation and inspiration - thank you! And some day, I will get to Jacob's Pillow. Stay safe, be well, stay strong!
I love this so so much! Everyone is so talented
That was awesome energetica and in sync creative chaos !!
Glad you enjoyed it
Hello Ms. BURKE! Greensboro NC.
Well, that was great. In my next life. . . great talent here.
YES!
Sandy Kessler Wayne, NJ
I remember Donald McKayle rehearsing Storyville and I saw this big black woman schlepping around with a robe and slippers on and I thought who is that ?then she took off her robe and her slippers and Became that character. So dance really comes from inside. That was Judy Jamison
I’d love a listing of the participants. Does one exist?
Hi! All artists are listed in the detailed description of the event, check it out there!
For Nick…there are Conservative Tap dancers out there.
