It absolutely confounds me that there are practices that do not sedate you when doing wisdom teeth. I just can't imagine not being sedated doing that.

Just got my wisdom teeth removed today. I can confirm, Jaiden had a horrible dentist. You are supposed to be unconscious. For me the worst part of the dentist trip itself was the IV stuff. I hate needles. But other than that, what really sucks is the recovery. I cannot stop bleeding, blood is just drooling out of my mouth and going down my throat. It's awful. Plus the jaw pain is horrendous.

As a dentistry student who did have a phobia from the drilling sounds it feels funny now to think about it cuz for some mysterious reason we are the most feared department of health care 😂😂 it's okay to say that u're afraid we can chit chat or play some music or anything to make u feel comfortable so the next time just tell the staff that and i can assure u they will be down to help you ♥️

The kids in my family love Jaiden's stuff. This dentist video is their favorite. I think it's therapeutic. When I take them to the dentist, they talk about Jaiden's video, talk about it while waiting, and then again on the way back. I am glad it's comforting to them.

As a fellow "awake for oral surgery" person, you have my condolences. I had impacted canines (the adult teeth never descended through the jaw and the holes they were meant to travel through closed up and they drifted away with time) and they had to do an absurd amount of ripping, cutting, and drilling to finally access them.
I also had a very bad orthodontist who misaligned my teeth and then shaved them down to try and compensate. I've had muscular problems in my jaw, neck, and shoulders ever since.

As someone with 2 impacted wisdom teeth, there's an understatement about how bad the pain can get, it feels like knives are being jammed into your gums...you can't sleep with this pain, you might sleep through the night...you might wake up at 3 in the morning

For me, the worst thing about the wisdom teeth removal was the fact there was a needle inserted into my hard palate. Because that was triggering both my gag reflex as well as just plain hurt.
After that, the most annoying part was like you said, the fact that i couldn't feel what was my tongue and what was food.

Fun fact: taking your wisdoms teeths out without sedation is really common outside the US. In my country it's really normal to get them out while conscious, actually I think it's illegal to sedate you during this procedure bc it's more dangerous to be sedated than it is to be awake

As an epileptic, I know what it's like to bite chunks out of your tongue and not realise until much later. The healing process is not fun, and I've gotten tongue wound infected plenty of times and had to wash said wounds out with antibacterial mouth wash, which is even more painful than just trying to eat, drink, and talk with an open wound in your tongue.

When I go to the dentist, I get nervous here and there, but when I'm there, it's like I'm the most unemotional human being ever and when they prick me with a needle, you can just see a single tear go down my face without a single thought through my eyes.

Dude I felt this exactly. Had the very same issue regarding wisdom teeth coming in wrong, a year of horrible anxiety and pain, being awake as they sawed my tooth in half, the sheer terror reaction of my body. The only difference was I had cream of mushroom soup afterwards. Lived on that and grits for a week.

I can relate:
One year ago, I had an orthodontist appointment and they put some kind of metal thing in my mouth. The result was me not being able to eat OR drink for 24 hours straight! I couldn't even swallow without starting to choke! "Why didn't I take it off?" you may ask? TRY TAKING SOMETHING OFF WHILE IT'S SUPERGLUED TO YOUR TEETH!!! We don't live in an Eddsworld episode; You can't just tear out your upper jaw just like that, and if you do, it won't be like "Oh don't worry, it'll grow back soon...", no, in real life it won't. When my mom tried to get me an emergency appointment, she was told that that service was no longer available! (Frick you NHS...) The next day I got it taken off, and trust me, I was in heaven!!! I finally got to eat again!!! What did I learn from this experience? That you CAN breathe and swallow at the same time!

Hey my first time watching you, I purposely scrolled through your channel, and clicked this cuz im going to the dentists soon and I am terrified.

I was actually also wide awake for my wisdom teeth appointment. Here in Germany, dentist actually don't really use these relaxing procedures, or at least the ones that make your mind all fuzzy.
I had the choice between the normal, half-as-strong painkiller or a more stronger variant during the surgery, so I paid 14€ to get the more stronger variant they would put into my veins and the roof of my mouth.
It took a while to work, but eventually have gone full power after 15 minutes.
It was kind of relaxing :D They put a little blanket thingy over my face, with a hole for the mouth, and I almost fell asleep. I'm lucky that, despite having some negative experiences at dentists, that I had no fear whatsoever

I’m glad that I had a really good child-friendly dentist growing up with memories of pac man on arcade machines and Disney movies playing on the big screen in the office waiting room. It made the experience pleasant.

This is why I insisted on an oral surgeon instead of just letting the dentist take out my teeth, I would not have been able to compose myself. You are certainly braver than me.

I also was scared of the dentist as a kid(who isn't?), and thank god I wasn't conscious when I had my wisdom teeth out. I have a small mouth so those things had no choice but to go, and I was terrified given all the horror stories I'd heard from relatives, friends, and online. Thankfully, they put me completely out. The only problem was that they used IV meds to do it, and I am very afraid of needles. The nurses understood and let me put a blanket over my head so I couldn't see and one held my hand while they put them in. Next thing I knew, I was lying in my parents' bed with wads of gauze in my face. I tried eating one bite of pudding, but almost immediately threw it back up.
I basically camped out on the couch for the next few days, my diet consisting mainly of pudding, jell-o, pumpkin pie, soup, and other soft foods. They gave me this band that went around my head that had pockets for two ice packs which was nice. I didn't have to constantly hold them, just swap them out when they got warm. I recovered after a week or two.

I was always afraid of the dentist as well, and i brought a little hedgehog plush with me to every appointment and all the nurses loved him (his name is Franklin). I now have a hedgehog plush collection and Ive acquired about 16 now :)

Here in the UK, as far as I'm aware, being knocked unconscious is never an option, and after having two teeth removed, my entire experience was me accidentally almost biting the dentist's fingers off on multiple occasions because my mouth was numb and the onus was on me to keep my mouth open as wide as possible without any guard to hold my mouth open. I wasn't even given sunglasses, I was just given normal goggles so the drill dust from my own tooth didn't go into my eyes.

I was the opposite as a kid.
I loved the dentist so much that one time when I went, my brother had a appointment but I didn’t, so I started to cry cause I loved the dentist so much. The dentist saw me and asked me why I was crying and I said “cause I want to get my teeth checked” he ended up checking my teeth cause I’m guessing he felt bad for me. And while doing that he said “I’ve never had a kid cry cause they didn’t have an appointment” That dentist probably still remembers that. Like he was completely caught off guard by why I was crying.

I identify with this SO much! I have bad anxiety at the dentist. I've had two wisdom teeth (b/c that's all I had) & 4 permanent teeth removed. I had to get the works. Valium, the gas stuff, & Halcyon--the medicine that makes you forget. Even now with doing simple things like fillings, I still have get the gas & Valium. So I totally understand this level of fear. Even though I know I'm going to be fine, my body says I'm going to die. That's not fun at all, but I'm slowly trying to conquer that fear.

When is got my wisdom teeth removed, the dentist put me to sleep. According to my mom, I screamed during the procedure.

After rewatching this video hundreds of times, I still get confused at the fake end credit, I'm always like "there's no way that's it," Every time!

I remember some 4 or so years back, I had my wisdom teeth basically broken down and vacuumed out. The weird thing about this one is that partway through, I took a nap. I was just so bored, that I went half asleep on the chair (probably cuz of the anesthetic as well).

My front teeth used to resemble a rabbit until I got braces, that were painful for the first few weeks give or take (it was kind of a blur there)
The pain was so bad that I couldn't even talk without my sensitive teeth hurting every time they made even gentle contact with the other (in terms of my upper and lower jaw respectfully)

This is really helpful to know that im not the only one who get overwhelmed when going to the dentist I actually have to get a tooth filled in today even though I know that they’re gonna give me laughing gas so that I won’t feel anything and I’ll just be loopy the whole time it’s still quite nerve racking so I’m watching this video before I go. I have to get a tooth filled in because ever since I was little. I think my teeth have been like not properly formed because of the way I was born and there’s a two at the back of my mouth that isn’t filled in properly, and there’s a hole in it, so they need to put filling in it.

When she mentioned getting her wisdom teeth taken out I was like: "oh but that's not that bad you're just out the whole time because of the sedatives" and then 30 seconds later she says how the nurse told her they "don't do that there" and I felt so bad for her

I thought this was just a funny animation video until I myself had to get a similar procedure done six months or so ago. It was to remove my tonsiles, I know not the same but it was my first surgery ever in my life. I had a similar experience to Jaiden where I was so nervous leading up to the procedure and then having a near mental break down before I got sedated. The doctor had to let me sit up from the surgical table because I was crying so hard. One of the nurses came over and hugged me since I was alone during my appointment, my mom dropped me off and picked me up but she wants there during the whole thing wich probably didn't help. It took me probably 10 minutes to stop crying enough so they could sedate me, they put the mask over my face and told me to breath deeply. I nearly started crying again until the anasteiologist(? is that how you spell it?) asked me "If I could live anywhere politics and money not and issue, where would I live?" I don't remember what I told him but apparently I rambled on and on about the different places I would much rather be than on that table. But ya, similar reaction to MAJOR SURGERY. (If you don't think getting wisdom teeth or tonsiles removed is a major surgery I will fight you and show you my medical bills.)

As a drum player, that rimshot is sort of relatable. I don't follow sheets and go freestyle, but learning what each drum was and figuring out their sounds and being able to consistently make a beat is quite hard. But I have it easy, all I have to do is grab some special sticks and go ham. I can't imagine what it would be like to try and memorize a flute/saxophone/clarinet/recorder's notes and on how long it would take to follow a sheet and make something that sounds good other than just goin' Doot-do-oot-da-doot-doot dooooooooot-da-doot

I once had five teeth extracted because my adult teeth were growing in and they still weren’t out. My mom was always the person who said “Don’t wiggle your teeth, let them come out on their own.” Well, you can see where that got me. They didn’t do sedation and they only gave me some laughing gas to calm down. I heard my teeth just being yanked out but I was surprisingly calm about it. Not to mention, I had to get a tooth extracted a few years prior because of a cavity. That was way more painful than this. 😅

I ALSO HAVE A FEAR OF THE DENTIST! I’m not the only one! 😂 Okay but seriously though, whenever my mom makes an dental appointment, I would get SO FREAKING SCARED and actually start crying. Even when they just need to look at my teeth. 🥲 I WOULD DO ANYTHING IN MY POWER TO STAY AWAY FROM IT! I swear, dentist appointments make my anxiety even worse and I already have terrible anxiety. 😭

Actually, sliced strawberries have a completely different texture to tongue, they're much, much more tender. In fact, tongue is one of the toughest foods I know of.

I had my wisdom tooth removed just a couple of hours ago. The painkillers took effect after the procedure and I could feel almost everything they were doing. They didn't cut the tooth or gum, they just tore it out with pliers. The video helps, I feel better, but I still have a hard time holding back tears. My whole jaw hurts, I can't drink or eat, it's like I hit my head on concrete several times. Thanks for this video, I feel at least some kind of moral support ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ
