i think it’s because of the friendly, hanging out environment instead of the professional one and for professional interviews, the questions are scripted and celebrities are given lists of questions so they know what to expect.

Usually that trick is only for shimmery eyeshadows. For matte shadows it’s not a very common thing. That’s probably why he made that face
Actually I thought that was really neat, most of the time liquid will make a matte eyeshadow very gunky and darken it a lot, and sometimes the moisture even makes it patchy if you try to apply it
