- Two months ago I started growing antlion larvae.
The antlion larvae made antlion death traps, and hunted not only ants but also pests such as mosquitoes and cockroaches.
I named antlion larvae GwiSoon.
I was able to learn so many things about antlion larvae through GwiSoon.
But one day, GwiSoon was nowhere to be seen in the ant hell.
GwiSoon hasn't eaten for days..
That's when GwiSoon finally became a chrysalis.
Can GwiSoon really become an adult silk dragonfly?

that's interesting, I always thought Antlions looked like their larvae stage throughout the entirety of their lives, but they actually transform into dragon fly looking creatures, how fascinating, but I personally prefer their little tubby ground forms more.

Just over twenty minutes to develop an emotional attachment to an antlion. Though GwiSoon has long since departed, I sincerely hope he was able to make his contribution to the cycle of life, and that his offspring are out there somewhere. Be they digging a hole as a larva and eating some stuff, in a chrysalis just chilling and transforming, or taking to the sky on their journey as a lacewing.

It’s because of your videos that I’ve become friends with a lot of insects. Most recently I’ve become friends with butterflies because they all congregate in one area and just like you I’ve been slowly showing them that I’m safe. I’ve been scooping them up and then putting them back down gently and now they know who I am. Thank you for your content. I really love it

I had an ant lion colony as a kid, I dug a big pit in the ground and filled it with sand and there were about 15-20 of them in there that I had scavenged from all over. Then a couple of them on a cannibalisms rampage.... The best part is when you have them in your hand they try to dig in your skin and it feels like someone pressing a warm furry finger and it tickles immensely.

I loved them as a kid. I would keep several as pets. Some lasted long enough to start the process to morph. Loved feeding them and cleaning the habitat as a child, I never see any around these days.

As a child, I used to play with the antlions, I always wondered and look for their pits at the back of my house and catch them and touch them. Grab a handful of sand and watch them dig and build a pit on my hand. It's always entertaining.
Then as I grew older, I just realized that the antlions are one of the most aggressive hunters out there. I can't believe I touched these guys, lol.
At least antlions aren't harmful to humans, if anything they're beneficial to us, eating all these other bugs.

Did not know lacewings were also called antlions & it was very cool watching the larvae hunt for food. I was also surprised when it made a chrysalis & the transformation was cool to watch! Very informative video & beautiful release site!

I kept a BUNCH of these as a kid once lol i got really shocked when they vanished one day. but then later i read they turned into May Flies. this is their Pupa form.

Technically pill bugs are a type of woodlouse that can roll into a ball. They are very cute :)
Another thing is antlions aren't dragonflies (Order odonata). They are from order Neuroptera which also has lacewings.

Not dragonflies, they are Lacewings. Different order, not all that closely related to be honest.

If you want to tame antlions you need to find the alpha antlion and get its pheromone sack, then you can either squeeze it to call them to you or throw it at your enemies. But make sure you use it where theres soft sand, or else they cant get to you
And NEVER go on the soft sand without an alpha antlion pheromone sack!

I live in south Spain and those mosquitos came years ago and unfortunately I'm being familiar with their bites and can say it's better to not touching at all the area because it last longer and becomes more painful. I think it's because rubbing or making that cross spread the venom and it can last around 10 days while if you don't touch or just rub it very softly they last only 3 or 4 days, just like a "regular" mosquito bite.
Must say it because I always made the cross, or scratch the bites too much and was hard to train myself to just avoid that behavior but so effective.

To get rid of mosquito bite, warm up a spoon in hot water (hot enough to feel a bit of pain, but not hot enough to get yourself a burn) and press the spoon against the bite spot.
Rogue proteins that mosquito left behind will dissolve due to temperature, and it will not itch.

I had one as a kid in a sand filled bowl that I put near anthills. I was so angry and sad when my father poured out the sand from the bowl, he wasn't aware of my pet. Thank you for showing how it would have looked in the end.

My parents often taught me that you could use toothpaste to treat mosquito bites, especially mint-flavored toothpaste, it kind of relieves the itch.
I am dealing with some pretty bad mosquito bites rn, mint oil is helping

One thing i am grateful for is bugs being small. Imagine going to a Beach and having to worry about an antlion the size a regular lion
a long time ago bugs were giant and ruling the land in a climate with 3 times more co2 than 2020. We may have to expect bigger bugs although that's not likely because of predators and humans but who knows.
