- I'm super late with the Reply 1988 fever... I regret not watching this way back 2015-16. For those who watched the series, I guess you know why I made this fmv #TeamJunghwan. Ep 18 literally hit me hard. I replayed that confession scene for so many times before I go to bed. His feelings were so sincere, and if it we're not for this 'timing', and his hesitations, maybe just maybe.. they could've ended up with each other. (deoksun liked him too back then right? ๐ฅบ) It's the first time I got mad at a pink polo shirt + traffic lights in a drama. I have no bad feelings for Taek, like Junghwan's wish, if the guy was a jerk, he might have won over Deoksun. ๐

I'm already on episode 12 and I can feel the shift towards taek-duek sun ๐ญ๐ญ knowing that hyeri and ryu is together in real life is a consolation but it's really different when you are attached to fictional characters coz you can also feel their pain ๐ญ๐ I bet they were also heart broken for their characters ending coz they also liked each other that time
hyeri actually cried for real during the confession scene because she felt bad for junghwan. if you realised, her eyes were puffy in that scene

I get you. Sometimes for me off screen relationships dont matter as much as the onscreen ones of the characters do. This is the same way. I feel even more broken when something bad happens to the characters, maybe because fictional characters are our one true chance at having a Hope.

Sometimes, what is obvious need to be spoken of. That's what happened to JW and DS's love story in Reply 1988. Holding back your feelings toward somebody will end up losing it. Am still hurting how their love story end up in this drama. Anyway, Taek is so romantic and caring to DS and am happy for them too. Now, am confused already whether who I really want for DS... LOL. Good job guys, love you all. Am a big fan:)

I was team Taek, but honestly for the entirety of the show I felt I had second lead syndrome cause these two were just obviously meant to be.
This is my first time having second lead syndrome, hayyyss at the first episode I thought jung hwan is the main lead but I was wrong, I felt sad with him especially in episode 18. I know they're couple in real life but hurts :(((

The ending breaks my heart, not only because they did not ended together but also when their family moved to different places, cant imagine that. they are all very good neighbors, why did they to end the story like that huhu... I think they should still end it happy, jolly crazy something like that
They should have ended up together like reply 1997. All along in reply 1997, Yoonjae owned everything. His confession timing sucked big time. But both sung shiwon and yoonjae were people who would wait for each other only. The brother wasnt even a barrier actually . Their communication skills were so poor, even then they got each other. Here one man plays differently and bamm the game is owned by someone else. Even then doek sun should have understood his feelings. I hated how pathetically he poured out his feelings and then said it was an act. He deserved her all along. Even if he was indifferent at unimportant times, he really cared when it mattered he was always there for her. Why is fate so cruel?

This was the most devastating second lead syndrome i have ever caught, like i was on board with Junghwan x DeokSun but then on the later episodes you will see the shift to Deoksun x Taek. It is also frustrating because Deoksun x Junghwan was on the same page at one time, so yeah i was frustrated

I was waiting for the moment when he will confess to her and in episode 18 on that restaurant scene i really thought that he is telling how he feels about her but Brooo wth is going on with the writing, if they don't want him to be ended with her or to let go her away why the unnecessary drama on that restaurant scene. Still can't digest with it, that's so unfair with the character.
That scene shows how he confessed to her, but as you can see, she was not touched at all, and literally waiting for taek, that's when you can tell deok sun is falling for taek already, jung hwang has missed all the important timings, just like how he told by narration on the same episode

He waited far too long.
Just finished the show last night. So here are my thoughts.
When I first started watching the series, Sunwoo was my favourite, until he broke Doksun's heart, cuz I thought he'll be good to her.
After sunwoo rejected her, I thought Jungwan will be the true love of Dokseun. To be honest, both Taek and Jung wan's love for Dokseun were as pure as it could get.
A lot of people say that Jungwan was afraid of rejection. I don't believe that. He clearly gave signals to Doeksun, like the gloves, the umbrella, covering her in the bus, and most importantly, telling her to wonder why he came all the way to the restaurant for her, asking her not to go on the blind date, visiting her at night, and going to the concert with her. He was quite motivated to confess to Dokseun in his childhood, but he stopped when he had learnt that Taek likes her too.
So for the sake of his friendship with Taek, he refrained from confessing, and in fact acted cold towards Dokseun, to not raise her expectations, which was slowly rising from Doksun's end.
As for Taek, he was also determined to confess to her in 1989,but he also didn't because he noticed Junghwans feelings for Dokseun.
The moral of the story is that both Taek and Jungwan cared for their friendship more than their infatuation at that time.
They didn't want to ruin their own friendship/ hurt each other over Dokseun. But both of their loved for her were deep and pure. I can't really compare them. Jungwan expressed his love through small gestures, and Taek was more expressive verbally. But both of them supported Dokseun.
After 6 years, when each of the boys noticed that the opposite person has not made a move on Doekseun yet, they probably thought that the opposite person is over Doekseun, and that is when both Taek and Jungwan FINALLY felt confident about making their move on Doekseun.
That's why both of them rushed to the cinema, to take their chance. It didn't really matter who reached the cinema faster.
It was Doeksun, who coulddecide whom she had feelings for.
As for Doeksun, she always had a soft corner for Taek.
And she loved the IDEA of Jungwan having a crush on her, just like any teenager. She just wanted to be loved. She had a crush on Jung wan for a short period of time only because she thought Jung wan might like her, and the same happened in case of Sung woo.
But as they said in the show, it was more important who Doeksun liked.
Doeksun loved Taek without even knowing if Taek had any feelings for her.
So who was better for Doekseun?
I can't really say.
Doekseun could have had a really great chemistry with Jungwan, if she loved him. Because it was shown in the show that she clearly did not reciprocate to Jung wans confession. Sometimes I wonder how their relationship would have turned out if they ever happened to be together. I kind of thought their relationship would be like Elizabeth and Darcy from pride and prejudice.
But the truth is Doeksun, unconsciously, loved Taek, with all her heart. That's just destiny.
Taek and Doeksun are just made for each other. You can see that Taek and Dokseun feel most comfortable when they are around each other. Taek needs and wants Doeksun. Doeksun always needed the feeling to be loved, and Taek always made sure she was his number 1 priority. Taek made her feel the most special. He never dared to hurt her feelings.
He always treated Doeksun as a "woman, not a friend" โค
And that is why, our Taek is worthy of being Doksun's husband.
Taek and Dokseun are the definition of "we were still kids when we were so in love, not knowing what it was"โค
Honestly, if Dokseun ended up with Jungwan, I would've been happy too.
But Dokseun CHOSE TAEK. (FYI, Jungwan confessed to Dokseun before Taek kissed her, yet Dokseun longed for Taek).
Doksuna loves Taek and I support her choice.
They were destined to be together.
PS: as much as I believe Dokseun has a sizzling chemistry with Jungwan, I was always Team Taek all the way, from the beginningโค he was my most favourite character in the show๐ญโค๏ธ I love all the characters btw. My other fav are Jungwan and his dad๐
