Can the apple watch survive being under water for that long? Can an Apple Watch marinate in a marina for 9 months and still live? Obviously this is a joke about 5 Minute Crafts, but this is a good opportunity to inform people that putting electronics in rice does NOT work, despite this being a very common myth. Silica gel packages might work in some situations, but rice will not.
The best thing to do when dropping an electronic device into water is to turn it off immediately and - if it has appropriate I/O or ventilation - gently blow-dry it periodically. Hardest part is to resist the temptation to turn it on & check.
Even if the device seems to keep working afterwards, it's best to check for a replacement. Corrosion might still be happening inside and suddenly break the device a few weeks down the line.
