Ok...I await the fun gifts now that heโs gotten the clothing and the tools...I am kidding...the tools are fun and productive and give him a sense of self worth and he knows good things come as you age...making things with mom and dad is great fun. I believe Spurgeon is a great kid and he exhibits behaviour and characteristics that lead me to believe he is a little sponge and the work ethics and kindness and compassion he exhibits prove his parents truly love him and use every opportunity to teach him right and wrong and heโs really great at differentiating the bad from the good. Heโs a great kid...I would hope that, in the future, if he misspeaks because he does not know better, you will explain that every person deserves respect and to be treated well and as equals. We are all unique and have unlimited potential and we must build others up because tearing them down is a disservice to God. Following the tenets of most religions we have come to understand we are all loved by our creator and itโs not okay to call people โthe black onesโ, that kind of thing. I understand his asking...he does not know, however, I simply cannot wrap my head around the fact you did not use that opportunity to teach a part of that lesson. Youโre good parents, from what Iโve seen on your videos. We all need to make sure we do not allow another second of intolerance to hurt anyone. Itโs time we all get behind the acceptance and inclusion of everyone. We can no longer leave anybody out of this circle of humanity and love. No one. You donโt need to agree with everyone but we are all included in this age of history making events and face it...we must do better. For the children.
YES - very true. I loved how he didn't get mad when his siblings were playing with his gifts; particularly when Ivy was trying on his shoes, socks etc...he just giggled and let her explore. Most children would've been upset, but I loved how he was calm and nurturing with her. What a sweet little man!

Im not sure if Jessa and Ben read these.(My first time posting) y'all are raising some great kids!! Spurgeon genuinely liked each gift no matter if it were clothes or socks he just really enjoyed opening all them. personally I believe you're encouraging all your children to play outside and use their imaginations something that's been lost a lot in this country. I know my kids had too much screen time but you have just got some really adorable young man there it's going to be just like his daddy! I don't know who was smiling war when he opened the jacket and realized it was just like Daddy's! ๐๐๐
On the Christmas after I turned 5, I ran out of my bedroom and right past my gifts from Santa to this BIG box! Dad said it was just the box that moms washer ca!me in! Not after I got done with it! It was a fort and a place to hide in! My. mom said they spent about $800 on my gifts, which was back a tad before Jim Bob & Michelle, and since I am the only child, that was a lot of $$$, back then! Whiile I did open them eventually, I remember that big box! My dads family lived in Knoxville, TN & my mom's in Philadelphia, PA. His family sent me the entire Barbie, Ken, Midge, Alan, Skipper & Scooter, plus a ton of outfits & the dream house! By the end of the day, I had moved my dolls in that box! My mom said they were just going to an appliance store the next birthday & Christmas so they could save a ton of money!

Happy Birthday Spurgeon! 5 is such a magical age! There were so many touching moments in this video I don't know where to start. I did the same thing with my kids about giving clothes, shoes, socks, underwear, etc for gifts and other practical items. My children also loved books, so they also were included. I always gave educational or building type gifts to my son as well because otherwise he would be taking my toaster and blender apart just to see how it worked (yes at age 5). Today he is a highly paid telecommunications engineer, so guess it paid off๐๐. But your family is special. Ivy Jane trying on Spurgeon's shoes and socks and walking through the house like she is a shoe model๐๐ (and Spurge doesn't mind), dancing on the couch in Davy Crockett's hat. The boys twinning in their hats, Spurgeon being so proud of looking like Dad in his coat and shoes and being able to build with his own tools like Mom. I can remember my grandson opening his Christmas gift's at this same age, and he would say quietly under his breath ( Please don't be clothes, please don't be clothes) the whole time he was opening it, it made me laugh so much watching him open his fifth birthday presents, he's really doing great as a big brother.

I can remember my grandson opening his Christmas gift's at this same age, and he would say quietly under his breath ( Please don't be clothes, please don't be clothes) the whole time he was opening it, it made me laugh so much watching him open his fifth birthday presents, he's really doing great as a big brother.
