@@AlbertaRose94 bc not just anyone is educated in administering it or is qualified to administer it. Most controlled medicines do take a medical doctor that's educated on all of the effects of that drug to treat a person correctly and safely. Same thing with almost any medication. I've had six hospital births and they were all great! I think the biggest piece of advice I can give you is to make sure that you have great communication with your healthcare providers. I think the overwhelming majority of doctors, nurses, and midwives really do want you to have a great birth experience and the best way for you to get that is to communicate with them throughout the whole process.
I've done both non-medicated and epidural birth and I have to tell you epidurals are awesome! I'd never go back! 😂

My advice it to pack minimal . With my first child , I over packed and barely used any of it . 😄 I was way over thinking . Pack all the things you need for down under/up top (after care) , toiletries , a few diapers/wipes 2 favorite baby outfits and a blanket ( for you and baby) and robe /slippers/socks (flip flops for the shower) pretty much sums up all you need . Remember , if you and baby are 100% you will be home in 24-48 hours . I went home in my robe and slippers lol . After baby #4 I felt like a pro packer . The less you bring , the better and easier to leave. You spend most of the time in bed , as long as you and baby feel comfy and smell fresh , no worries . You will be home in no time . ☺️

With my 1st L&D I wanted to go as long as I could without, I got the epidural just at 8cm. Once I got it I was relieved. Those hours without it were so long and hard! My 2nd I got the epidural earlier and it was so amazing! I labored on my left side baby came down on her own, pushed for maybe 10 mins and she was here! Then with baby 3 & 4 the epidurals didn't work on my left side. It's hard to explain, I guess it took the edge off but I could still feel every contraction! I would continue to get it because each of my babies have been born face up, it's just something with my body but in case of a complication/ emergency c section I would continue to get the epidural. Although my body births them fine face up some women have trouble getting them through like that and end up with a c section.
For your hospital bag Id say a nursing nightgown is my #1 top priority.

Ok the comments about asking her about moving to a bigger house are annoying the HECK out of me! Where they chose to live is none of our business. I am also in a 2 bedroom house, pregnant with my third baby and don’t plan to leave any time soon. Newborns are more than likely in the master for a good chunk especially if you are a breastfeeding mom. Newborns don’t NEED their own room, it’s all to look aesthetically pleasing for the most part...
Just because their way of living is different than most does not mean there is anything wrong with it! Some people like small cozy houses, I happen to be one of them ❤️ praying for a safe and wonderful delivery for your new addition! Your family is loved by mine! Your kids are all so smart, kind and well mannered Jessa. You two have done such an amazing job. Sweet Ivy Jane is so beautiful, bright eyed and smart for being 2 also. I’ve had an epidural 4 out of 5 of my pregnancies. My one time I didn’t have an epidural was not by choice, but because I didn’t make it on time to get one and had my daughter fairly quick after arriving. My labors didn’t get shorter as I went, but my babies sure got bigger with my last weighing over 9lbs🤣 You are so so strong. 💜
    My hospital bag I packed-
Hair ties, chap stick, deodorant, tooth brush and tooth paste, I’m not sure if you plan on showering in there, but our hospital didn’t provide shampoo or conditioner so I got the small travel sized of those to bring, phone charger, nursing bra, robe, slippers, (the hospital was freezing after giving birth) women depends to go home in(I couldn’t stand the pads they gave. They moved around in the mesh undies)
Congratulations on the newest. Can’t wait to see what gender baby is and hear the name you guys picked out. 💕💕💕💕💕💕

I'm sure this comment was meant with good intentions, but it seems a bit demeaning to assume that women who go without an epidural do it for some sort of praise. Trust me, as someone who has had two babies without any medication, there are not enough pats on the back in the world to make it worth it. What does make it worth it is knowing that I didn't take an unnecessary risk during labor. There are many positive stories and many negative stories for having an epidural. I don't care what choice anyone makes as long as it is an informed choice. If you think there is no risk, you have not made an informed choice.

You do what you and Ben believe you should. An epidural was great for me from 4 to 9 cm. After that it was turned off so I could turn and get into different positions. Being able to push as you know, fights against the pain, so I'm glad God worked it out that way. The children are precious and love they're excited. Sooo glad your mom gets to attend. And the packing is easy. Hospital supplies all your and babies needs, just outfit to go home in, your toiletries, baby blanket and that's it. I don't know why people pack diapers and wipes, etc. God Bless and praying for all of you!

It’s been a while since I gave birth…my youngest is 18 years old. Had all three in the hospital, but had them naturally..no epidural, or anything else. The last one was the toughest for me, and I finally broke down and asked for something, but it was too late, and time to push. Honestly, I’d be scared to have an epidural. There’s just something about a needle going into my spine that makes me nervous…I’d rather just deal with the natural pain, and get it over with. Plus, I was always able to leave the hospital the next day. I’ve heard that when you have an epidural, I think you have to stay an extra day, but I, not sure.

Hi, Jessa! My first was an unmedicated natural birth in a birth center. It was picture perfect. Hard, but manageable. I labored for 12 hours and pushed for almost 2. So total 14 hours. My second birth was in a hospital. I was induced as he wasn’t budging 8 days past his due date. I was put on pitocin with the intention to do a natural labor again, but the contractions were SO unnatural and painful (not just pressure like I’d felt with natural contractions). So at 7 cm, I asked for an epidural. He came 30 min later. I labored for 7 hours and pushed for 11 min. The epidural had some side effects for me postpartum- slamming headaches, lower back pain, and fluid retention in my legs- which all passed after 6 weeks. To me it was worth it! I know many women who can do pitocin without an epidural, but after knowing what it *should* feel like and not experiencing it that way, I was like, “Sign me up.” If the Lord leads us to have a third and I have to be induced again, I’ll definitely be doing the epidural. Anyway, God bless you in this. I know the Lord will see you and Baby through it!
