not to mention the asteroids are all travelling at nearly the exact same speed so if you're matching the speed there's pretty much zero risk

@@tcrvo01 It's more like if you and something else are both moving at the same speed, let's say 5 kmph, you will never get any closer or further until the speed changes for anyone.
This is assuming everything is moving in the same direction though. But in space you can move at any direction and nothing will slow you down so even if matching the asteroids' speed means going sideways; it's possible

This is my favorite part because at first he said, "yeah, zero percent," then once the pilot drove the point home he had to get specific to even stand a chance at defending himself.
"Nearly zero" is entirely subjective, too. Depending on who one asks "nearly zero" could be 0.000001% or anywhere up to like 5%.

Technically wrong. Example: If you throw a dart at a board, you have 0% chance of hitting any one spot exactly. But you have 100% chance of hitting any random spot.
So 0% chance is a chance. Just not one you should bet on.
@@davidwuhrer6704 wrong. I take it you brought that "0% chance" BS, from the example where you randomly pick a number out of infinity. That example by itself is just a flawed logic, chance randomly picking one particular spot out of infinity is 0% because you simply can't make a random pick out of infinity, so your chance of picking any random spot "out of infinity" is 0% as well, since it can't be done.
As for your case of dart board, we're not dealing with infinity here, finite space - hence no point would have 0% chance.

Thanks for the tip. I wiln check out Galaxy Quest. You should check out Sealab 2011 which is AMAZING and is very similar to these animations. And Invader Zim is another great but less similar show that you may love!

@@FelkCraft yeah that's rotoscoping, it's a technique where you film something and then trace the frames to turn it into animation, it gives this weird vibe imo because it's way more lifelike than most animation. Usually it's traced by hand but this video you linked has an ai that does it.

@@robbieowen1831 I'm pretty sure they use a rotoscoping software but back in 2005 in the scanner darkly ( great film ) they had to paint over each and every frame which is quite fascinating since it was only 15 years ago.
It reminds me a lot of the old Ralph Bakshi films where they would take live action footage and then trace the scenes over it.

What makes this sci fi gimmick even dumber is that asteroid belts aren't really dangerous. The asteroids are not close together at all. In the inner asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, the average distance between asteroids is 600 thousand miles. You could fly right through there with no issues. Obviously you would track the asteroids just to make sure, but even if you flew through completely blind, odds are you wouldn't hit anything at all.
If the asteroids were as close together as in sci fi movies, gravity would have pulled them together and created a larger asteroid, dwarf planet or even a full planet, depending on how many asteroids were there of course. I mean duh. Gravity pulls things together if they're either big enough or close enough.

One of the annoying sci fi tropes is the low percentage value of success given to the captain and then they proceed anyway and be successful. This is why many of us play the lottery when the odds of hitting the jackpot is well .. near zero percent chance. We all hope we are like these intrepid space explorers, winning at virtually impossible odds.
I don't know why but the funniest part of this is that a spaceship has a back up beep 😄
I think in reality an asteroid belt is less tightly packed than a film would lead you to believe making a futuristic spaceship that turns on a dime much less likely to collide with anything.

Serious question: how did you make this???
My approach is like rotoscoping but with a shortcut! I use a tool called Ebsynth that uses single painted frames to stylize large chunks of surrounding video. So instead of having to paint 1,000 frames I only had to do about 25. From there it’s just creating the other assets and layering and adding effects to make it look funky and cool!
