while i agree it's an incel gateway, tinder is not that great for getting dates and most people on the platform care about looks more than anything (i'm talking about every gender here).
I never did well on tinder but when i meet someone irl, i don't have that much of an issue getting dates. The rules on tinder of "be attractive" and "don't be unnatractive" is kinda true when you see the amount of matches on those people tinder, even if you suck at conversations it's easy to get a date when you literally can't reach the bottom of your match list.

tinder is a hellscape of modern "app" development that is designed to tug users along strings until they purchase goodboypoints to make endorphine feel good when match. It's not for dating, they don't really want success out of their users.

The problem with making the apps completely free is the free ones are invariably IMMEDIATELY over run by bots and scam profiles.
Prime evidence of this is an app called plenty of fish. For a very brief window it was considered one of the best dating apps until it was overtaken by the flood of.bots and foreign scam accounts.

I really don't see the problem so many people here seem to have with apps like tinder. Of course if you get matched, it is probably because of your looks and how you present yourself. It just does not make sense to give everyone a chance on dating apps, it would be immensely time consuming.

Yes, but here's the thing, just because the odds are worse if you're not an 8+, doesn't mean you can not score. Before I met my now girlfriend (on a different app... okcupid) I was also using Tinder and I had a whole bunch of dates.
Thing is, I was (still am) heavily overweight at about 130+ kg and didn't hide it on my pictures. I also had a really low paying job and was in debt so it's not like I had SO much self confidence. But I had plenty of matches and dates anyway.
I'm not saying that back then I was guaranteed to get laid. I'm saying it was a numbers game and how much time you were willing to put into the app and understanding the algorythm. And since looks aren't just about genetics but also about how you dress and shave or trim etc, it's really not an impossible task to get someone you like to also swipe right on you.
Also your location obviously matters. If you're in a smaller town, Tinder is basically worthless unless indeed, you are very attractive. I'm in Berlin so I didn't run out of suggestions after a couple of swipes. It also helped that I spoke English as well as I do in such an international city because that is actually not something to take for granted and so half my dates were with non-germans.
So yeah, if you live in bumfuck nowhere, look like smeary balls and have nothing really going for you, you're most likely not going to be doing well on tinder. You have to capitalize on who you are. Also no dick pics, no pictures of you in front of your car, no "cool alcohol drinking" picture and no bathroom selfie. Also a smile won't hurt. And maybe don't write in your profile that you like Anime, even if it is awesome (I know) or that you hate "insert whatever music/movie genre" because imagine there is that really awesome girl and she would be into you but you wrote "I hate country music" or some other dumb shit that doesn't matter in your life and now it's a left swipe. Don't be cheesy. Just be funny, confident and reflective .... -> in your profile text. It's not like I was ACTUALLY funny confident and reflective in reality. Sometimes I was a sweaty mess because the girl was way above my paygrade.
As an example, I had this in my profile text and it got the most laughter/replies:

As a final note. Tinder may be dead now anyway. If you are serious about finding someone online, you probably should research for all decent apps and make profiles. You might find that you'll have way more success in one app than in another. Why limit your chances?
the number one reason girls dont reply is because that yes, they are inundated with messages, and yes, most of them are: "Hi :-)" ... Super boring, and if she had to reply to every "hi :-)" message, she'd be spending her entire day on it.

Also when you first join tinder, you are given a score by their algorithm. Everyone starts with the highest score possible, but over time your score is lowered as people swipe left on you. That's why you can get a lot of matches initially and then much less later on. If your tinder starts to get stale, delete it and remake it. You'll be back at the top and get way more exposure.

This somewhat true BUT tinder is highly appearance oriented. the girl I'm with now told me she would right swipe on maybe 5% of guys at most, so regardless of personality 95% of guys never ever had a chance.

tinder is not designed to make matches, it is basically a simulation designed around encouraging people to pay for super likes. They can't boast anything like actual dating sites can for "success" because that isn't their goal

@@alexjohansen1337 honestly part of it is due to the difference in framing. i have my tinder set to both men & women. i swipe on a lot more women because their profiles seem more interesting, weird, funny, well-posed & well-shot photos. a lot of the straight male profiles i see are of them holding dead animals, pictures of cars, pictures at frat parties, weirdly lit pictures, or no photos/bio that show any kind of personality/interest etc. kind of off-putting imo. i don't mind some of those interests when meeting in real life, but if that's the image they're choosing to display, it can come off wrong. obvs i can't see straight women on the app though, maybe that's the case for them too. i have definitely heard sooo many women complain about the fish pictures though.
