  • @it-s-a-mystery
    @it-s-a-mystery 3 년 전 +452

    The worst is when you are ready for text to pop up, and you read it at a lightning speed with pure unadulterated concentration and it stays up for like another 40 seconds.. Then the next time text pops up at the end of the film you read it at a leisurely pace with the confidence the film gave you that it would stay on for a good amount of time... But for some reason this ones only up for 10 seconds and you only manage to absorb the first paragraph.
    It's so annoying. For me I can read things fast but it just creates a general synopsis or idea. I understand those things happened in this world. If I have time to read at a more relaxed pace I can enter the world myself, I can build that world inside my mind which lets me become more immersed in the film going forwward.

    🤣 Every movie my whole family has to ask me what's going on. Apparently I'm the only one who can read those fast enough. The trick is you don't have to read every word. Just paraphrase your reading and fill in the gaps as the movie plays. 😉

    I have a theory that the guy editing the film didn't want other people to think he reads slow, so he put text up for only a really tiny time so no one made fun of him / judged him for having it up too long. It's a pathetic ego thing. Here we all are... None of us are able to read these things fast enough 85% of the time because of fragile human ego. Mystery solved. None wants to be the editor who leaves the text up unnecessarily long and everyone thinks he reads slow. So instead they put it up for too short a time.

    The no words affect really shows your experience and efficacy. This is a brilliant and high quality short film even for the quick blip it is. The end left me with "ha. He's getting sad about it." With an immediate epiphany of "omg. Just a look. That was so good!"

    I actually feel like I have something I call “lyric deafness”, which applies to movie dialogue and onscreen text. With music I don’t pay attention to the lyrics partly because I suck at interpreting what’s being said and partly because I value a song based on its musicality. When I watch a movie I care much more about the visual presentation and it contributes to me missing out on nearly all quickly paced conversations until watching the 4th time. On-screen text is a lost cause, because I get too distracted by the fact that I know the text is going to go away without my permission whether I like it or not and I know it’s generally brief and so I try to hurry and read and I read too fast to understand what I’m reading then I try to go back and reread so it makes sense, but then I panic because I know it could go away any second. This is why the Star Wars scrolling text is my least favorite thing in all cinema (especially since the text you inevitably have to reread has become tiny and distant).

    In the olden days at cinemas when text came on the screen, audience members, especially younger folks, would read the any text that would be displayed to increase the enjoyment of those who were either visually impaired or were simply couldn't read good or at all.
    This reminds me of this.
