Commissioned to paint portrait
Arrives by being washed ashore
He wasn’t washed ashore, he walked through an ocean along the sea floor
@@RespectProcess finish the poem!
This is how all literary characters arrive at their destinations
Starving artists
He just fast travelled to a waypoint nearby
Joel, please don't be self conscious about your rotting ear. I think it's distinguishing.
I misread that as disgusting and it made me lol
@@MountedDragoon Huh, I literally just did the same thing just now.
How many more ppl gonna fall for this, cause i did 😂😂
@@MountedDragoon i misread it as disintegrating!
I read disgusting, my brain is full of filthy lies.
the painting is like. actually good. in a really weird way
It's better than what Picasso painted. That's for sure
No it's not lmao
@@diamondzoyd who's lmao? French Chinese Mao? L'Mao?
@@PadreMortalis HAHAHAHAHAHA
@@PadreMortalis First time in years I actually laugh at a yt comment, good job
The raw sexual tension and romance in this version makes the original look like a Yorgos Lanthimos movie in comparison
"Bugger green is the warmest colour"
brilliant
Wait whats the original called?
@@applecake2209 portrait of a lady on fire
Wait you don't find Lanthimos movies sexy?
I now want a shirt of that painting
Yes
Please.
oh snap i'd buy one
i too for many shirts
It should be a sticker you would see on a bathroom wall
The “I mean I would’ve posed, if you asked” at the end got me 😂
yeah it gets me
Yeah, amazing line.
"This is a bit, uh... a bit thin."
"I love that."
in all fairness, making such a painting in the 18th century, would have been revolutionary.
That's why the guy didn't like it, just didn't have the frame of reference yet
prolly just trash
nah this was when people still had a good taste in art and didnt just shit on a biscuit and call it abstract art, then get payed 20 mil for it. The reaction was spot on imo
@@Joe-uz7vd Well said my guy
"Modern art sux!" -people who can only draw stick figures
Really expected a man to be running around on fire and the artist asking him to stand still, and the painting would eventually be a pile of ashes. This is so much better, though.
It's a reference to a movie, just in case you haven't heard of it.
"Thats just shading"
*artistic hand movement*
"Hey! Look at me! I'm hat face!" I can't stop laughing
That one took my off guard
Reminds me of Adam Sandler on SNL.
I want a whole feature film in this style. Hilarious and beautifully done.
It's called portrait of a lady on fire (2019)
@@turnmeonaliveman He does not want the original, he wants it in Haverstyle! Joel Haverstyle... :p
Well that would be a brain melt. But taking the whole thing in small pieces as we all do... well.... makes our miserable life much much more kinda bearable. :)
Try It's Such a Beautiful Day - It's weirdly similar in a certain way
This is the most accurate depiction of Thom Yorke I have EVER seen in my life.
lmao def reminds me of when I thought I could draw a girls face for a gift ugh
I know exactly what you’re talking about and it hurts.....
Are you good with nunchucks ?
Did you shade the upper lip
@@samuel3838 For like three hours, yeah
sounds like a terrible idea
Painting looks like thom York from radiohead.
Yeah. Too much. It is a great painting though imho
I thought that too lmao
It does!
Ties it back to Incelblanca.
@@Fettclone1 "play it again sam."
man this video made me laugh so much "this is how you look this is what you look like this is how people see you"
The ultimate burn
I'm fucking dying because of that line
Joel: “This is a bit, uh, thin-thinning. Thinning.”
Patrick: “I love that.”
Looks like Thom Yorke
That’s exactly what i thought :O
I was looking for this comment
I was also looking for this comment before writing it.
Both the original movie, and your heartfelt adaption made me cry...nice job dudes
What's the name of the original movie?
@@samukinhagamer6175 Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)
@@zelgadis115 thanks
Portrait of a lady on fire is my favorite movie. I have a tattoo from the film 😊
God I hope that painting gets put on a shirt lmao
PLEASEEEE
"This is how people see you"
Joel has never looked so upset.
"I would have posed...if you asked"
lmao
"is that a booger?" "no that's just shading" every artist felt that
"This is how people see you. This is... what you look like." *smiles at a job well done*
He’s so...handsome
He is breathtaking
I couldn't stop laughing after the reveal 😂
It's not just the comedy, it's the editing that's so fantasti to.
Dam, that painting revival broke me more that i think any joke has this year.
I knew well what joke was coming but i was not prepared for that masterpiece of a face art.
As an artist, I can unironically really like this painting
Side note: that film is amazing
That's the best damn painting of Thom Yorke I've ever seen
I hope we get to see that painting auctioned off in the future
It's like that time on Thor: The Dark World when Thor told Loki "We are just like the Humans. We're born, we live, we die..." Beautiful.
"I arrived in July" and stumbling out of the ocean like he swam there or jumped from a ship. Lol these shorts are so packed with one joke on top of another so fast i have to go back and rewatch them as i missed things the first time from either listening more than i was watching or watching something more than i was listening.
Every video you make is a masterpiece. Great job as always
that painting is actually a modern masterpiece
This painting should be included in Joel's shirt merch.
2:38 That look on his face. I feel that emotion every day.
This made me literally laugh out loud
Ikr
That painting isn't even that bad, just makes it funnier
Wow, beautiful. Spot on aesthetics. I could watch a lot more of this type of thing.
What is the name of the music? And how did you get that gauzy, Barry Lyndon look?
Thank you! The music is Vivaldi's Summer! A big part of the look was just the mist from the ocean. On top of that I also use FilmConvert to emulate film grain and that goes an extra step to make fuzzy visuals look great.
@@Joel-Haver That is awesome. Thanks for the reply.
The "I woulda posed if you asked" part. Lost it.
it's not even a bad painting lmao, just not the style you want
Some people aren’t a fan of Chinese
Sure as hell ain't a good one
It's like a gollum/sloth from goonies hybrid
I absolutely adore this. And Joel looks perfect in the late 1700's garb. Very cool.
The vaseline bloom filter and the stormy, rocky shoreline is so spot on for whatever this genre is. Cheesy early-2000s 18th century period drama? I remember watching a New Zealand movie like this once about a woman pianist who was washed ashore and wasn't allowed to play her piano anymore lmao
As an artist, this is actualy a very well made painting.
"Look at me, I'm hat face"
That part was hilarious
For real, this painting has a Picasso-esque feel. Like I can legit imagine seeing this in an exhibition. There's like this fine line in art. You have good art, bad art, and art beyond bad art, like once you cross that threshold into beyond bad, suddenly it's... kinda... good instead? Art is weird, but I can tell you that this looks really good. Or I guess by my definition this art looks beyond-bad good.
I will say yall have captured the strong awkwardness of a post-critique very well
Nothing quite beats a face down fully clothed sunbathe in overcast weather.
Coming back to this, it was my first Joel Haver video. I didn't know what the channel was about, I just found it incredibly funny. I liked and added the video to my favorites playlist. Since then, KRplus algorythm caught on and recommended more and more Joel Haver's videos.
My first was the scooby doo video. The next was "I'll be her". That is still one of my favorites.
Man the cinematography is too good
I watch a lot of comedy channels and this without a doubt is one of the best videos I’ve seen.
my sentiments exactly. nothing tops these videos
Hahaha.Laughed my ass off on this one. This was incredibly done especially the starting intro.
I like the colors a lot in the painting tbh, the style was kinda cool
The way that he's showing that "it's shading" with his hand.
This video is a masterpiece, especially the weirdness of them looking at each other during the upbeat Vivaldo - Summer part. Fascinating!
That painting seriously looks like album art
I’m actually impressed with that portrait
You deserve so many more subscribers. So glad I get to watch your videos
"He was breathtaking"
*Violent violin Sounds*
My phone to me when I take a picture:
wait a minute he just painted Thom Yorke
Yeah
"hey look at me, I'm hat face"
Well what else would he say, that's exactly what he was!
Wauw that head turning battle at 1:25 was pretty epic
I just wonder, how many people are watching and commenting this without seeing the actual movie.

Beautifully shot! Very cinematic.
This man just legit drew Thom Yorke
He’s so good he saw his dad in him and painted him.
Absolutely fantastic
I cant stop watching your videos. You are a genius!!
The hair isn’t gray enough
The lighting in this is so good
Cutting off this particular piece of Vivaldi genius so abruptly is nothing short of criminal.
Also very haha.
Before this became weird and surreal, I kind of knew this was going to become weird and surreal. Also, the painting, that's thom yorke.
This is still the best video on this site.
I thought the video was good..really good but I lost it on the painting reveal and the subsequent conversation. Now it's amazing.
“I really wanted to capture your essence”. Haha
Beautiful beautiful scenery and landscape to match the exquisite art. Also I loved the end font
The spirit of Picasso was guiding that paint brush
Genuinely love that painting
I was eating food when this video came up and I had to struggle to avoid puking from laughing when the portrait was revealed
Watching this after seeing Portrait of a Woman on Fire was like watching Hot Fuzz when you've seen Point Break
Bro you went to that incredible location, everything looks like it's gonna be "wanderer above the sea of fog" I love you
he was breathtaking!
Breathtaking.
Wonderful. That is art. That face bring me tears of joy.
10/10.
Great movie.
The cinematography is also breathtaking.
so many levels of humor are packed in these little stories, I love them. Also there is so much story packed in these little stories. I love it.
Like, starting off with "I arrived in July.." and the dude is walking out of the ocean.. genius.
The most beautiful film I’ve seen to date
I love the colour grading in this.
1:40 great shot and lighting
The build-up 😆 to the picture I just lost it
This was a work of art
You are extremely underated. PS nice painting
I didn't know I needed this in my life so badly.
This is a masterpiece
Outside the context of a portrait, I actually kinda like the painting's style
That's actually a pretty good impressionistic view of Thom Yorke.
This is art in its finest form
