I Made Over 150 Films in One Year

It's been a crazy year full of lots of ups and lots of downs. I hope my films have been able to provide you with laughs and maybe some poignancy throughout. Thanks so much for sticking around, here's to another year of films!

Besides being a funny filmmaker, with roughly 2000 subscribers I'd argue that you, Joel Haver, are the most underrated KRplus channel. Never seen anybody before put out content of such high cinematic quality, written with so much wit in such a high quantity as you put out. If you should ever stop doing this - better start sleeping with one eye open.

The man is true to his word. He watched my hour long film and even gave me feedback.

Definitely the most inspirational film maker , your talent is raw and every video is of the same or greater quality than that of billion dollar productions , it really shows that it isn’t the money that matters.

Congrats on 150+ films Joel. thank you for the wonderful movies. I introduced your channel to my girlfriend this week and we watched Forget About Everything For a While a week ago and Island two nights ago. both resonated very deeply for us, resulting from our individual experience and also as the result of things we’ve been going through recently. Like everything else you make, they are astonishing pictures.
not only that but everything I’ve seen from you really demonstrates a true commitment to creativity and filmmaking. I watched your promo for Island and only just realized that you’re spoofing that Opening Night Cassavettes clip, but it’s a brilliant update of what he’s saying, and you echo some of that in this video too. Truly independent cinema is so vital nowadays, with major studios imploding in on themselves and faux-indie distributors proving that people are salivating for anything that will actually challenge or move them. I so desperately wish there was some better way of discovering filmmakers like us because right now discovery is limited to black box algorithms and good ol’ word of mouth, both of which have only resulted in a few thousand subscribers for channels like yours that are doing this old school youtube filmmaking thing (congrats on 2k btw). hopefully that changes soon, and I truly think it will. your message is so encouraging and hopeful, and seeing this revolutionary DIY rhetoric from yourself and other filmmakers like Jim Cummings is inspiring because people are starting to get it. you can just do things. you can just go and make movies, and nobody can stop you from doing it.
PS - 2/3 of my feature has been filmed, the last 1/3 we’re gonna shoot next year because of covid, but hot damn is it a fine picture, I cannot wait to show it to the world

Holy shit Joel, I'm watching this with you at 1.3mil subs, from 2k a year ago to 1.3mil. amazing. Started with your animations due to the gods of KRplus algorithm, but now that I've seen all of those I've been diving through ALL of your non animated, Island was amazing, and the shorts are just as good as your animated(some even more awesome). I think some of the comedy shorts you have produced are the best around. Super quality, super humble / subtle / random humour. It's amazing to see videos like this with only 5k views. They way you talk about film is so eye opening, it's so obvious, but I have been so conditioned to the industry aspect that I didn't realize people can just make stuff...and the internet is perfect for that.

Mad props keeping it up after this milestone, knowling myself I wouldve probably called it and tried something else. Success is always just around the corner of almost giving up! Also love the message. My mum used to make little films a long time ago, maybe this could inspire her to create again.

This is so inspiring. I've never made a movie, just little videos - but this makes me want to.

I have to commend you on color management. Watching this on an OLED phone or screen in the dark gives a really cool effect where the background is completely black (OLED illuminates each pixel and those pixels are off). Watching on the phone in bed feels like there is a little floating Joel giving words of wisdom hahah
