im british (effnicity fillipino) and my family (2nd gen and 3rd gen) usually get chinese or JOLLIBEE
We get Jamaican food, Indian, Chinese, pizza and sometimes kfc. But a personal favourite is fish n chips which we rarely have nowdays but a good treat.

Resident Indian fan here to clarify... The reason the same food tastes different can also be because of the recipe. India is VERY regionally diverse and so the same dish can taste different every few kilometres. Another interesting thing that I noticed here is that these dishes had coconut in them to mute the spice... Coconut is common in south Indian dishes and what you had were all north Indian dishes so that's something unique too...
Ishita Mathur no wonder they’re also pakistani dishes but they’re the really common stuff also we use no coconut whatsoever in our food (i can smell coconut in food from miles away and i don’t eat coconut-y food either)

Ameen Shindoli i was talking about coconut it has nothing to do with being pakistani, it’s more to do with geographic location of pakistan which doesn’t naturally support the growth of coconuts, i.e. we don’t have subtropical regions
also, i didn’t mean it in an offensive sense if you took any offence then i’m sorry but i was voicing distaste towards a fruit when used in cooking
I'm south indian and we use coconut in some curries but others are just strong and spicy especially the seafood
I am from kerela so seafood is life 😂
Also the different spices people use and the different versions of different spices available.

Did you know curry is a big part of Japanese cuisine too? It’s even less like Indian curry though. The British actually brought curry from India to Japan. Japanese curry is quite sweet and I personally don’t really enjoy it. But curry is a huge thing in Japan.

Legend has it, an english customer was served a chicken tikka, and then found it too dry, and asked the chef for some gravy. The chef improvised with a tomatoey garam masala sauce - and the Chicken Tikka Masala was born.
Chicken tikka should be moist and juicy chicken so maybe the chef was not great and overcooked the chicken

I greatly appreciate when Jolly explained how korean 짜장면 tastes differently from the one in China, they used “koreanized” and “created” instead of 짜장면 being “invented” in Korea”. Thanks for respecting the originality of the food and the culture. You guys are always humble and respectful! Look forward to watching more of amazing videos!

This is exactly the same as Chinese food is in the US. It's very different from actual Chinese food and Americans eat it all the time.
A Shipper I think every "ethnic" food becomes modified once it leaves its original country xD I've tried "Chinese" food in Korea, America, Hong Kong and Australia. They have identical names on the menus, but the actual food on the plate are all different!
yes it is same in India too . india eats its own version of Chinese foods. authentic Chinese is really bad for our tastebuds. u guys are eating the mild version of Indian food. the originals are way too hot .

We do have a lot of very traditional Indian food available in the UK too (: It depends on where you go!

India is such a diverse country even we Indians haven’t had all the traditional dishes... there are thousands of dishes which are so old but haven’t gained recognition so they are hard to find in restaurants so they are available when your family is making it. Each state each city each district each village has traditional foods

When Josh said Madras level spice I immediately understood. Half my family are from Madras (it’s a curry as well as a region, however it was renamed to Chennai in the 60s) and we love spicy food a lot 😂💜

We have a lot of foods taken from conquered countries. I know my Grandad first had curry from his Uncle who was stationed in India.
We call it Indian, but most of the curries are actually Bangladeshi in origin, altered to fit British tastes

Watching this reminds me of my postgrad life in UK. Indian takeaway is a life-safer for students under deadlines. I used to order sweet naan, coke, chicken tikka masala/fried chicken and fries from Just Eat. 😂

Korma is Indian...just we make it with lamb or goat meat. Traditionally.
We do have chicken korma.
Also, we do not, absolutely not put any cream or coconut in it.
That's more vegetarian korma.
What is in a traditional korma sauce then? And does a hot korma exist never been a fan of its mild spice but I do like the flavour.
@@stolenname94 The point of korma is kind of the fact that it doesn't have spice. Or at least that's how it is in my family anyway, where basically all dishes are spicy except korma. It normally has yoghurt the way my family makes it. There's a ton of regional variation though.
I am so confused about the Korma one.. The one I always have has yogurt but it's always been a bit on the spicy side and never yellow.. Maybe it's a regional thing!
in south indian korma (especially coastal food) there is coconut in korma but not in north indian korma ( Im half and half so i like both)

@@musashimiyamoto9035 Afaik it's originally with naan as spoons, so to speak. Organizing a portion and scooping it with a small ripped off naan piece, directly into you mouth. No fork or spoon, like you said.

While Tikka Masala likely originated with immigrants in England, Korma definitely originated in the Indian subcontinent. Just in the west, we have milder versions of it at restaurants...

Same with me and I seem to have the unpopular opinion that 'Indian' food in the UK where I'm currently living is far better I have had both authentic and high quality curries from my time living in India when I was young and they just aren't as great as given credit for

Korma is Indian, and my nan actually made it for me when I went abroad on holiday. Chicken tikkah masalah was made here, and its delish!!

Curry was introduced to English cuisine starting with Anglo-Indian cooking in the 17th century as spicy sauces were added to plain boiled and cooked meats.] The 1758 edition of Hannah Glasse's The Art of Cookery contains a recipe "To make a curry the Indian way". Curry was first served in coffee houses in Britain from 1809, and has been increasingly popular in Great Britain, with major jumps in the 1940s and the 1970s. Since the mid-20th century, curries of many national styles have become popular far from their origins, and increasingly become part of international fusion cuisine.

We don't use the word curry in India. We have different names. The thing you call curry is originated from Mughal empire(1526-1857).

So I'm American and Indian food (and Thai food which is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE) is a staple in my family. If we ever order in and every single time we've gone out to eat, throughout my entire life, it was either Indian or Thai food!! They are both AMAZING!!
Not sure if all that info is correct. Korma was never invented in UK but rather brought there. Same for most of the other dishes as well (if you dig deeper)
Having lived in both countries, Korean jjajangmyeon and Chinese Zhajiangmian are definitely very different dishes. Both great, but totally different.

For America, we have Panda Express and Taco Bell that is very Americanize from Mexican and Chinese food
Taco Bell just opened in my city in New Zealand a few months ago. We already got two shops and 6 months ago we had zero. I haven’t tried it yet because I’ve never had Mexican food and I’m a bit nervous because it seems there’s lot of stuff in it that I don’t like.

Chicken tikka masala is very similar to the Punjabi murgh makhani (buttered chicken). Murgh makhani is sweeter and, in my experience, is made from chicken on the bone. Chicken tikka masala is spicier and is made from chicken breast. Both are totally delicious 😋

Vindallo is pretty Indian, the only non Indian thing in Indian restaurants in England is Chicken Tikka Masala rest of the menu consists of food from India just a bit blander

이유리 근데 팩트는 베트남은 저 쌀이 자라기에 맛 없어서 쌀국수로 끓여먹는다는 것... 근데 저런 쌀 특징은 일 년에 두 반 수확할 수 있으니 어쩔 수 없죠...
맛없다 아니다를 떠나서 먹어보지도 않고 생김만보고 판단하는게 안좋다는 생각이였어요!

I love chicken tikka! That said, I think it would have been nice to mention the historical root behind British Indian food in detail since it's a pretty similar to how Japanese food became a big influence in Korean cuisine.

I was just rewatching the video and I realized we have dutch "Chinese" food in the Netherlands. A lot of the dishes you get in the Netherlands are invented to fit their taste and aren't actually Chinese. It's one of the standard thing to get as takeout. Basically the same phenomenon they're talking about in the video.
