ollie's mention of carl jung's psychology theories about ego is actually the most accurate. RM used carl jung's books into their universe and a discovery of themselves. even had carl jung himself mention BTS in his book so WELL DONE OLLIE!!!

The MV actually represents the past, present, and future coexisting at the same time ending one cycle and beginning a new one. It's also about facing your struggles and finding a way to over come them. In the video each member has his own story, but those stories are connected to one another which represents the inner journey all of us have to go through both personally and collectively as part of humanity. Jin's story is war and the loss of hope. He is also stuck in a loop of time repeating itself. I suspect this tightly links to the Bangtan Universe storyline. JK is in the process of setting himself free from self oppression. Jimin portrays the loss of innocence (a major theme of BTS is the sacrifice and end of childhood innocents in order to rebirth as a new person, an adult). Tae's story is of self sacrifice and protection. In the Manifesto ON film Tae has the words The Shadow Like Me on his face, this means that one has to accept the shadow or darkness within them in order to be whole, another big BTS theme. The girl is a bit harder...she might represent Army, with Tae as the hero protecting Army, or she could represent his anima. RM represents the idea that the destiny of a single person can affect the world as a whole. He is Noah after the flood, not before. His arc is the moment when the old cycle becomes the new one (when Jin's dove comes back to life JK dies beginning a new cycle). JHope represent the past (JK) meeting the present (JHope). JHope is moving on from the past and looking towards the future while recognizing that the past is what made him who he is, including all the scars. Suga represents the search for balance. Balance between light and dark, between innocence and experience, between the past and the future. To sum up, the video is about all the different transformations we go through in developing our identity. Or at least this is my interpretation of the MV. The Jolly Priest is incredibly insightful!

the story of Jericho makes PERFECT SENSE, the animals going in sevens as well as pairs I SCREAMED everytime Chris said the word "seven" because the name of this new album is Map of the Soul: 7.
And now the thing he said about Tae taking off the girl's blindfold symbolising that now is time for new hope, "see no evil" and this particular sentence was one major concept for BTS's Fake Love era, with the Chinese proverb "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil".

I love how the guys find out what the mv means, they just basically talked about the whole album just by watching one mv. I will just come to JOLLY and just see them react to DYNAMITE BTS upcoming album and just let them figure what that album means. Its really impressive how only them 3 just by watching that music video and all those clues there are, they solve them out and me and the ARMY just trying our best to figure it out with every thing they post. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ollie has a minor in psychology.

Anyone else find it interesting... when they mention the "Wounded Healer" RM is shown.... the leader... writes much of their music... and the voice of the group... a Man that is a self-proclaimed atheist... but appears to have a stronger moral code than many who claim to be devoutly religious.. a Man that studies and questions... yet seems to have a blind faith in what BTS as a whole (including Staff and Management) can accomplish... an intellectual exemplified by his high IQ... but states as part of BTS' mission is to lessen and "heal" others pain showing a very high EQ as well.... analytical and a problem solver....who also factors in the irrationality of emotions and acknowledges how a situation feels to an individual as also important... exemplified by the way he leads... a Man learning to "Love Himself" while finding the balance between accepting and correcting others as he pushes them on the journey of self love and discovery... so I guess I wouldn't equate him with a wounded healer.... seems a stagnant term.... I think a Healing Leader has more growth potential.... and his growth potential .. as well as all of these Young Men.... is astronomical.... #LoveYourself #BTS

Ollie is so good at finding the signs and interpreting it. I think he pointed out most of the signs in this video. Maybe because of his study, plus he likes editing so he pays more attention to details and small things. At times like these, we need the 'you're a genius' hat for Ollie 👏👏👏

It's alot more in depth. The guy running, Jungkook he was sent out of the wall by a village because he was gifted with magic. This is from the book Omelas, which also references all their other music videos.
Also Ollie is 100% correct about the Jungian phycology!!! The whole concept of the album as well the previous album.
The bird also comes back to life and is not a new dove because when the dove comes back to life, Jin (the bird keeper) looks out of the window. He's shocked cos all the other people come back to life too. That's where their village walking behind them comes from.

I want to thank you guys for putting every word they sing in English. I love BTS, I found them during the darkest time of my life fighting breast cancer. Their music gave me strength to fight harder and not give up. And now because of you I know what ever word means thank you

I'm re-watching this reaction again and when you put Namjoon while Ollie explaining about Jung's theory in their album makes me have a thought of wanting to see Ollie and Namjoon talking about Jung's theory because these two really analysed that theory so well especially with how BTS came out with their Map Of The Soul albums. I truly wanted to see you guys meet and interview BTS in your Korean Englishmen channel. Just my wish but Rona sucks or maybe you could do interview with them like how guys did for Peninsula release especially BTS is coming back this 21st August for their new single and another album is on it's way too.

I think, because he's such a goofy guy, we forget that Ollie is actually really intelligent, and I want to take the time to appreciate that he's actually well-read and does know a lot.

The drums and walls conection is something I didn't know, wow, thank you. RM said in "louder than bomb", his original lyric was "the wall crumbles and fall", even though PD thinks it's too subtle no one would get it so changed, but he still likes that better. So the falling wall would fit the image they create here.

Am I the only one who enjoyed Ollie's little lecture about Jung? Probably because I'm a huge nerd about symbolism and all that lol.

My ARMY radar went wild when you mentioned some of the animals went into the arc in sevens. 7 is a very important number in the BTS world, they debuted on a day that adds to 7, there are 7 members, and so on. So, the symbolism of animals going into the arc towards that freedom, or rather redemption or however you want to call it, that the arc represents, is fascinating. Anyway, I will stop now and just say, great reaction :)

You got it! The Biblical references, the movie references, the Jungian references (and a lot of references to past BTS MVs). They are all metaphors for facing and embracing the "shadow" within oneself. BTS' shadow seems to be losing their passion for music, and the dark side of fame (the fear of losing themselves to the idol persona, and the fear of failure after becoming so big, etc...). They are identifying themselves with everyone's struggle to become a whole, unified person... the balance of the light/dark within ourselves.

Hi I'm just coming back to say that a few months ago, this video single handedly got me into bts and K-pop as a whole. I never expected the depth and beauty from K-pop that this video showed me. Kpop is such an incredible diverse genre, so thanks for introducing me to it

Yo, the theory about the walls could be an actual part of the storyline, so Jimin was standing with the drums, and as RevChris said about them banging the drums to make the wall fall down, maybe all those drums next to Jimin was how many times he tried to get Jungkook out, just like how there were all the bird cages showing how many attempts Jin had of saving the Dove, because in the past of the storyline, Jin would need to get the other members to save the members.. and then the child banged the drum and the walls finally opened??

To me, it is the story of their journey.

When they started, it was like a battlefield. Many other groups failing and/or their attempts on appearing in media decently being shot down (aka the dead bodies, killed doves). Many people who were present in those times even though they know them and with them during those days, still turned a blind eye to their music and band, put walls in front of them.

They struggled in that environment but were still stuck with the walls closed. So they went out to find other environments to support them. And finally, after they start getting recognition and support out, and start to win their big awards, the walls in front of them, banning them to reach that mountain/hill which represents the peak of success I think, started to open.

And when those walls opened, BTS finally managed to remove the blindfold of all those people, and they start to support BTS.
No matter how muh pain, sruggle, barriers etc were thrown at them, they kept going ON and ON and ON and ON (still going).

In that jungle/forest of Kpop (or music industry maybe in general), they are now single handedly climbing to that peak. While all those people who refused them, belittled them, killed BTS dove at the start, are now sending their own doves towards them as peace offerings.

I am not claiming this is what it is, simply saying, this is what I see watching this MV and listening to this song.

Rev Chris is the kind of person whom I would never get tired of hearing about Jesus from.

Not gonna lie, I'm highly impressed by how they all connected the dots after watching the mv only for the first time.

Ollie hits upon the most purposeful symbolism, the Carl Jung archetypes. The album is map of the soul 7 and map of the soul is from a book on Jungian psychology.they are even selling the book on Bighit's website.
So Ollie is on the right track but Rev Chris got alot right too. He talked about the light and darkness..Oppression and slavery brought to goodness and freedom. moving from slavery, warfare and chaos moving into greater freedom and consciousness. Which is very much the journey but it is an inner journey. Even Josh was very insightful when he recognizes that this is their personal journey. Great job guys. So glad this much could be understood from so little context.. The important thing that even BTS fans forget is context. BTS's new album Map of the Soul: 7 is a journey of the Jungian steps to individuation that looks at the map of the human soul the persona, ego, shadow, these conscious and unconscious parts of us and with the first track Intro: Persona to Interlude: Shadow and its partner Black Swan and the On and ending with Outro: Ego, you have this very personal journey of the boys singing and rapping about coming to understand, acknowledge and accept the different parts of themselves but also to confront fears and other shadows that cause chaos and steal our peace and self agency.

When Rev Chris said "See no evil" it reminded me of this saying which was often said in BTS's WINGS album:
"See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil"

Quarantine made me binge watch all Jolly Videos and I just came across this but seriously u guys are the best I love how u tried to put a lot of effort in explaining the MV & I appreciate it also Ollie is a living Genius the way he started relating the metaphors to Jung then to greek mythology man we stan and Chris I mean the way he doesn't talk that much but when he talks he sums up everything & his words just leaves u in Aw & it just shows how he is so educated and last but not least Josh this man is a Wikipedia for movies he literally knew all the movie references in the MV

When at the end it says "no more dream" ... you will understand the meaning of that phrase when you go to the other albums ... because in kpop it seems that the songs "talk" to each other hahah let's talk like this ... there is a song them from a certain album called "no more dream" that is to say a message yes, but to know what the message is you need to go like connecting the "dots" as if it were a song giving meaning to another and with that many people create their own theories and messages of the songs...Hope this help hahah! Few added points:
The ending said, "No More Dream", the name of their debut song.
Seokjin in many MVs represents a time traveler. There was a webtoon BigHit made, where all of the members were dying or having very bleak futures, and Jin has to go back in time to resolve it all. That might explain that part.
J-Hope is rapping infront of a supposedly dead Jungkook. He's wearing modern clothes, much unlike the rest of the members. In the album outro "Ego", there's a sign that he goes towards that says "Future", perhaps meaning he might be a time traveler too.
Honestly I don't know myself, BigHit really makes our heads ache.

I just became one of the Jollybeans a few days ago, and I really enjoyed watching you two, especially when reacting with Rev. Chris!
