They loved every minute of this: the memes, the reactions, and Chris’ words of wisdom. They’re both essential workers, so the quarantine is hitting them pretty hard, this was the perfect laugh they needed. Thank you for making such an entertaining (and dare I say, educational) video!

I'm no where near a priest but I am a christian who felt somewhat moved by the last supper meme so here is my explanation for anyone who cares. The Last Supper was the last time Jesus saw his apostles before he was to be crucified. As someone who has also suffered from depression most of my life, the idea of having to say goodbye over the internet is terrifying and yet Jesus has so much faith in God that he wouldn't be worried because he would know he was safe. Even though it didn't happen like this, it is quite moving to think of that possibility.

I know this is late but logically speaking, if being surprised is a reaction from the brain, and the brain is created by God, which means he is also the one who created the feeling of being surprised.
So Logically, God knows what it is like to be surprised he just never experienced it. He is truly omniscient.

I'm not religious anymore, but every Rev Chris episode hits me in the feels. He's so insightful, open, caring, and just real. If I'd been raised with more religious figures like him, I know for a fact I wouldn't have lost faith in the church.
I might not be a reverend, but I do know a lot about the Bible so feel free to ask about anything, and I'll do my best to clarify
You can still pray even if you aren't too keen on going to church. You musn't feel that you have to sever all links with Christ because of your negative experiences in the church. Either way, whatever you choose, I wish you all the best, and will be praying my Rosary for your intentions and wellbeing. Love from a Catholic Christian teen (who was not exactly brought up in the Church) ❤
It's been two years, and I am sure they have been interesting ones. It just struck me that in some ways your comment implies that your inner life somehow needs to be dictated by whether people around you or nice to you or not. If God is God, he still good even if your church people sucked; if not, all the goodness Chris could show would still not change that faith's imaginariness and falsehood.
I hear what you are saying, of course. Just a hope that wherever you are, you are finding the truth for yourself, and a faith that doesn't need people, but instead empowers other people. You know, being that Rev Chris to someone else. Science and scripture both have beautiful gems hidden within them that point to the Being who loves you at the center of the Universe, and I hope you find Him, in your own way, your own time, without anyone else. People are helpful, but they are so fickle.

Ohmygod yes! That anime was sooooooo funny and also rather groundbreaking for its concept. It’s a bit surprising (and maybe slightly offensive to some at first) but when you get over the initial prejudice, the anime is funny and wholesome. Though some jokes were a bit too specific to Japanese culture tho so I don’t know how that translate for Rev Chris and Jolly

I somehow never get tired of listening to Rev Chris' philosophy. This man is singlehandedly making me begin to reconsider the good in religion after I closed that door 7 years ago.
2:40 I felt for a long time that I didn’t need therapy because I should only be getting my “help” from Christ. But, Sometimes God puts specific people in your life, and He ends up working THROUGH them. God can heal on His own, but God heals THROUGH people- He uses other people to help you as well.

It’s like that story about the priest. He was caught in a flood, and the water was rising an threatening to overwealm him. So he prays to God for help. A boat passes by and asks if he wants a lift. The priests says «No God will take care of me». The water continues to rise and the priests contimues to pray. Finally a helicomper flyes over him and askes if he wants a ride. I'm a practicing Buddhist, but I think Reverend Chris is a fantastic example of the fantastic Christian faith.
What exactly is the Buddhists religion about
Well for some it can be a religion I guess, it can be what you need it to be. But mostly its a way of life and a philosophy, you can be Christian or really any other religion and a Buddhist and many people are. Essentially it has no God Buddha was not a god, possibly nor the first Buddha. There way well have been others, but he is the first to have found a way to record and condense teachings of Buddhism. This is a short version, but Buddhism is freeing yourself of the continual cycle of rebirth, a bit like reincarnation but not exactly. You keep being born, and suffering until through meditation, through your actions you learn to break the cycle. And free your self of suffering, these people are known as enlightened or Buddha's. Anyone can be a Buddha, though it can take many life cycles. But for everyday living it's being present in the here and now, in this moment. In this moment it's all you have and to make each and every moment count. Through your deeds through your actions, helping to free others from suffering. To help each other to build a nirvana which is like heaven but here on earth, in the here and now rather than when your dead. Obviously this is a lot, and there are many misunderstandings about Buddhism. And I may not be helping lol But essentially like most religions it's trying to help each other to live our best life, compassion, reflection, and a love and respect for all life.

You don't have to believe a story is the exact truth to draw inspiration and self reflection from it. You don't have to read the Bible like a history textbook, if you don't want. You can still draw from the idea that a deity sacrificed their only child to save people, as a reminder that you are loved, whether that is from a God or the people around you, or that sometimes we have to sacrifice things we love for a greater good/purpose (such as giving money to a charity even though you want to buy something, or stopping a hobby to care for someone sick)

The last supper image is so powerful. Even though everyone is "there" with Jesus, it feels empty and lonely - especially for the last supper.
Maybe it's because I'm in hospital now, and obviously cannot have any visitors with me... I am a type 1 diabetic who has just experienced a miscarriage, and I wish that my husband could be with me, or that I could speak the language where I am more fluently. I've probably never felt quite so alone as now. (Although I will say that I feel okay, even though it's obviously painful and scary).
Although I'm a Buddhist rather than a Christian, I'd venture that someone as wise as Jesus wouldn't have felt alone... I feel that he would have felt the connection that the others have with him, and their love, in spite of the physical distance - isn't that exactly why the spirit is stronger than the body and will outlast it (well, at least, I believe it will)?
So, this is a bit of a rambling comment, but to anyone out there feeling lonely, do truly listen to what Rev. Chris was saying about social isolation being more aptly called physical isolation. Whether you feel not so alone because you know that God is with you or whether it's because you can feel connected to the universe or whether it's simply because you can chat with a friend or family member and feel that they truly care... or, even if you have no one to chat with, know that everyone wants everyone to get through this okay, and you are indeed loved... well, just know that you're not alone. Warm thoughts to you all

@Emily Schulte-Slifkin This is such a kind message!! The good news is that I was discharged today, and am at home cuddling with my cat. For Japanese, I'm not too bad, but it's stuff like trying to make a nurse who has never seen an insulin pump understand that the sensor linking to it and controlling it reads interstitial rather than blood glucose and that I need to use my blood glucose to calibrate that... with the doctors, everything was fine. But you only see them once every few days... ugh, the outpouring of stress! Sorry for the long message!
But regardless what I retain is that you are such a kind soul for wanting to help me out 💕 And I'm totally saving this convo just in case I do need some help in the future! (feel free to ask me Japanese stuff, too... I feel like all of us JSL peeps have different areas of knowledge... mine is not particularly medical, though 😅😅)

Christ had a meal of bread and wine with all his disciples, called the Last Supper, the night before Judas betrayed him and he was captured. It is a very significant gathering, one of the only such gatherings to always portray all the disciples in one place, so to suddenly see it with no one except Jesus is quite a shock.
Pontus Pilate was the emperor of Rome, but he didn't care too much for the controversy of Jesus. It was extremely zealous Jews who were aggravated because Jesus changed things (adulterous woman, Old Testament said she should be sentenced to death, Jesus said "Let the man who has not sinned throw the first stone."). When choosing which prisoner to execute in public display, the crowd was roaring against Jesus. Pontus Pilate asked "What crime did this man commit?!," but people were unrelenting in their hatred. After handing Jesus to the executioners, he literally and symbolically washed his hands clean from the issue.
After dying on the cross, Jesus was sealed in a tomb for three days. On the third day the tomb was opened, but no one was inside. Jesus appeared like an angel and ascended into heaven. Some atheists have referred to this resurrection in jest as zombie Jesus, or werewolf Jesus. It's more of a silly internet thing...

@@mariomguy it's very interesting to see what other religions and mine have in common and different, for example I'm not too knowlegeable about how Jesus came to be crucified in Coran, all I know is that in Islam we believe the he didn't die at all, when He was being crucifed God replaced Him with another man, the one that betrayed Him I think (but I'm not sure) and just raised Jesus to heaven, body and soul, so we believe the He didn't die at all not in the conventional way anyways.

I had somebody say to me that they didn’t believe in god because he isn’t helping us during this pandemic and somebody else heard and said
“God is a teacher and we are the students. The teacher will never give the students the answers during a test”
I thought that it was a really good message and it really sunk in and I remembered it. If you ever have doubts I think that that quote is really powerful.
Essentially that's a good message massage, but (in case some people misunderstood) God isn't actually the One that brings the pandemic or this kind of thing (James 1:13), it was obviously a work of the devil. God just 'technically allow' them to be happened, and imo that's the test we're going into. Does that mean He doesn't help us? Nah, He DID help us through science, medical team, etc as Rev. Chris has stated.

@@hanif2336 i think that that's exactly the reason why he allowed it to happen, to test our belief in him and not fall into the temptation of the devil. he shows his power to those who have actual faith in him.
@@hanif2336 I think the best way to explain this is to continue along the thread of God acting as a teacher, or even a father.
Your teacher could give you all the answers to the test so that it wouldn't be difficult, but what good would that do you? You wouldn't have actually learned anything from that.
We have to experience hardships and trials in our lives in order to grow. God isn't just testing our faith for His own satisfaction, rather He is allowing us to learn through experience, the best teacher. And by grow I don't think that means just in faith, but in love and compassion among other things.
Personally every hardship in my life has inevitably refined me further into a greater, more mature person - a truer version of myself even. I believe that is what God wants for us and if He simply removed all hardship from our lives then we would never be able to become better people than we are now.
More than anything God is our cheerleader in a way and our biggest supporter. He can't do everything for us, but He's here to help.
Even if you aren't religious (which is totally fine, everyone has their own path) I believe that trying to go through the pains of life, even though it's so hard sometimes, with the mindset that you can learn from them is really the best way to live.

Yeah I’m not religious at all (I used to be as a kid though), but just the way he explains things and how passionate he is about it all is awesome. And he always has explanations, like the doctors/medication thing he was saying. He doesn’t just blindly believe in his religion and hope everything will be okay, he truly loves his religion and that’s just refreshing to see
You don't need to connect to the religion itself, just the message. And since the message is "be good to other people" and you seem to also think that way, then it would definitely work :)!!
