Been struggling with depression for almost half my life. When Rev. Chris began saying "I would remind them that they are loved and valuable" I completely broke down and started sobbing uncontrollably. Thank you for this, Jolly. I can not thank you enough.

I started sobbing hysterically when he started crying and then I sobbed harder when he empathized with mental health and the way he completely understood the video's interpretation of what it feels like "taking the darkness in then having it seep out of you." I grew up Christian but became an atheist. This priest is an incredible man and he made me subscribe.

I think it's sort of a natural instinct to judge first, understand later. But not all Christians are like that. In fact, we should be the most understanding people in the world b/c we understand how flawed we are and how much we need God's grace to help us each day. I'm always sorry that the media focuses much more on the judgmental Christian type than the loving type that I come into contact with frequently.

I can't speak English, but I can understand Priest Chris by reading Korean subtitles. There is a story about when I had depression in the past. One day, I looked down outside the window where it was raining. I cried for a long time. Another day I woke up very early and went outside. The sun shone on my head. I really wanted to live then. I was alive, but I wanted to live more and more truthfully. I wanted to enjoy this unknown happiness more. In these unexpected moments, misfortune and happiness come. Let's enjoy the unexpected happiness that comes like that. Everyone is still growing. I want many people to learn to love themselves. I hope the happiest moment of your life has yet to come.

Hi there. I just read your comment. As you know life is a mixture of sadness and happiness. It is always dependent as you mentioned in the comment. But God never wants you to be sad at any time. He wants us to be always happy and satisfied. And that is the thing the world is missing now. Some people run behind money, some behind drugs and many other things. But after all these they are always left with nothing but with that previous feeling of unsatisfaction.
As I mentioned before God wants us to be always happy independent of our circumstances so, " For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life". John 3:16. This is the good news I want to tell you. If you truly and genuinely confess to the God that your are a sinner and you accept that Jesus died for your sins you will be saved. Jesus will restore your inner being that is your soul and dignity and grant you everlasting life and you can always experience His unending love and His unchanging presence. You will then feel fully satisfied and happy throughout your life and you can spend your eternity within His presence. Above all I want to tell you Jesus is waiting to take hold of your hands. He loves you so much. I believe this is not an accident that I read your comment and replied. It was already planned by God even before you and I were born. You may be sitting in you home or somewhere else; not matter where you are or what you are doing right now, Jesus is standing beside you. Don't cease to Hold him tightly. Tell to Him that you are a sinner and you need Him to save you. No doubt he will cleanse you and sanctify you with His blood shed on that cross for you. Go on, accept Him as your Lord and saviour. I'm a teenager and already received Him and now I'm experiencing all the joy and happiness that I mentioned above. Keep hold on Him and walk through the path on which he guides you. @PJ It's really a shame, I grew up with my mom shoving Christianity down my throat. (If I said God instead of gosh she would hit me) Never made me go to church but sometimes when I mess up she threatens to send me to the Catholic school which is really scary for me because I'm gay. Gay people get beat up at my none religious school and I'd hate to see what happens to those at a Catholic school. I've just always been afraid of religion and I've grown to not trust Christians and Catholic, I always just assume that they're homophobic and going to hurt me.

As a person struggling with depression and self-harm, I think Rev Chris’s take on mental health is very compassionate! I feel alone in my struggles because my entire family doesn’t understand me at all. My dad (who also has depression) is dead and my religious mom and stepdad both get exasperated and believe I’m being overdramatic. They refuse to accept that my depression is a legitimate disease and assume it’s some undesirable trait I’ll grow out of. I feel invalidated and I can’t receive proper treatment since my mom is so stubborn about it.
@@mouthbreether Funnily enough I do have a bottle of antidepressants, even though my mom hates medication. She thinks I’ll become addicted to opiates if I use pills. She always comes up with all these worse case scenarios. She’s so overprotective and paranoid about everything. The thing is, my memory is so awfully bad I forget to take my antidepressants most days. Even when I do remember, my lack of motivation and extreme fatigue prevent me from doing the simple task of swallowing a pill.

Chis talk about mental illness whenever i feel anxious or starting to get depressed. AND there's just something about his interpretation of the video that makes me feels understood.

I just wanted to say thank you so much to Rev for his words about depression. It's not talked about enough. It's shushed and it's swept under and it's stigmatized especially in Christian circles and then you have people left to deal with it alone - in the darkness where things can grow out of hand until they swallow people whole. Keep talking about it. Loved this. Thanks.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Too many churches or religions out there just don't want to see life for what it really is but rather twist the arms of life to conform to the priest's idea of a norm.

Just what he said about mental illness and depression and saying you have to meet them where they are not where you want them to be is so refreshing to see from a man of the cloth. I currently struggle severely with bipolar disorder (i have more manic episodes than depressive) but have been truly blessed by god to have found a man that is able to bear with my mood swings because he understands i cannot help that but just tries to remind me I'm loved❤️

I love Rev Chris I Haven't had many good experiences with religious people but after starting watching him he really changed my perspective on things he's so sweet and the things he says really come from a good place that's hard to find.
@@Lillypop93 Same. As a lesbian my experiences in the church have been awful. I still volunteer for a Christian charity and they very openly "disapprove of my lifestyle" and make judgmental comments about EVERYONE so it's really nice to see that not all Christians are like that.

That’s really sweet to admit that. This world is not perfect. When I feel depressed I just remember that each and every one of us have a hole in us, that we constantly are looking to fill, even though it looks like other people have it all & are always having fun.. it cheers me up knowing that we all as a whole go through these things. My Grandpa use to say “ I fought the good fight, I finished the race, and I kept the faith.” Which I interpret as never giving up on this life. See it through & have faith. I learn to fill the hole with love for family, people & God... selfless acts. I Try not to get stuck in my head & the world of depression.

Personal faith, of which this man has, is beautiful and strong, but larger religion can be incredibly corrosive. if more vicars, preists, religious leaders and leaders in general were faithful but not dogmatic, I think people would be far more open to the world of faith
@@ereynolds72 The thing is, religion is dogmatic. It has a very strict guideline to follow, and most people would see this as restricting their life. You don't go to Christianity to learn how good of a person you are, and have your sins embraced. You go to Christianity in search of truth, and find out how sinful you are, and how if you continue down your route, you will recieve damnation. Love is an important part of Christianity, but our love is directing people towards truth. If that implies judgement and potentially hurting peoples feelings for making them aware of their wrongdoings, then so be it. Not my call, its Gods call, and the bible makes our calling very clear.

You can tell that Chris resonates with "When the Party's Over" a lot because he's a sympathetic individual. He's probably taken in a lot of people's pain in his life, and brought a lot of darkness into himself, and learned to work through it.

Thank you so much for your words about mental illness, Chris. It's such a misunderstood thing, and easier for many people to just turn away and pretend it's not happening rather than try and understand. Except that doing that hurts the person suffering, and makes them even less likely to reach out for the help they desperately need.
