I miss when Kpop wasn’t trying too hard to appeal to a western audience. Started listening because it was different

I feel like the 2nd generation artists really set the groundwork for kpop to come.

RIP Jonghyun, Hara, Sulli. Thank you for joining and creating this extraordinary era.

I miss this era so much. There was something so special about this era, and seeing these groups make a resurgence/renaissance fills my heart with joy.

The 2nd generation will always be my favorite. Unlike today's kpop the songs and dance weren't all the same. It was a sound that western cultures weren't used to so it was bright and something were you could listen and know the group singing because they each had there own sound. Now one group sounds like another. Ive listened since 2008, before it was easy to hear kpop. 2nd generation will always hold a special place in my heart. Jonghyun was my first and last bias. No one can take his place. Rest angel you did real good always.

It is about time someone made this video for new K-pop fans to learn the history, who paved way for their faves, and to stop them from being disrespectful towards 2nd gen idols.

2nd Generation's also called Golden Age of Kpop, even without good internet nor social network they crossed boundries outside Asia, THEY TRULY PAVED the way for the new groups and set records. Some kids must do their research before talking bullsh*t. RESPECT THE LEGENDS OF KPOP 💎

Most people I see on the internet talk about 3rd or 4th gen KPOP idols, most of which I am not very familiar with because I’m still stuck in this beautiful kpop era of 2nd gen kpop idols. These groups will forever stay in my heart

2nd Gen is THE EPITOME of K-pop music. Their music was so memorable and what I love the most the choreography was easy to follow. That’s why IMO they will forever BE the best in K-pop. 🥰❤️❤️🥰

I miss this era of K-pop. It wasn’t all about having a pretty face and a perfect body. It wasn’t all about popularity and video views. It was about making music that people enjoy.

...the best era in kpop for me. so much diversity and interactions among idols, both male and female, were fun. the music is timeless too. these groups and songs will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I've got into Kpop in year 1998, and I've listened to lots of late 80's (Late Shin Hae Chul, Lee Moon Sae, Yim Jaebeom etc) and early 90's Korean songs (from ballad like Park Hyo Shin, Sung Si Kyung, rock ballad like YB, Flower, Kim Kyung Ho, Emarald castle) then start with Kpop Seo Taiji era, Roora, Turbo, Cool, Twotwo, H.O.T, Sechskies, G.O.D, R.ef, Taesaja, S.E.S, FinKl, Shinhwa, Jewelry and many more..
Yes, it was a very interesting moment when being a part that witnessing the evolution of the kpop from only around Asia to worldwide.. Yes, the early generation is the one that paved the way and it was all started all the way from 1st generation (but maybe just certain country know them) I know that Late Shin Hae Chul is the one that bring the experimential rock from west to SK (from late 80's). Lots of big names now like JYP, Yoo Hee Yeol (TOY) etc went to western country in early 90's to learn more on music and with their talent they've created so many masterpiece in Kpop music industry..
But in 2nd generation, this is where Kpop started to be known worldwide.. started from early 2000 where BoA, RAIN, SE7EN, TVXQ, BigBang, Wonder Girls, SS501, FT Island, Suju, SNSD, SHINee, 2ne1, Fx, Brown eyed girls, 2PM, 2AM, IU, Infinite, After School, Miss A, 4Minutes, Mblaq, Ukiss, Beast (Highlight) and many many more~ this is the time where Kpop was known globally, this is when people get to know about the big 3 agencies (SM, YG & JYP) and they started to have so many world tours...
I really2 miss the 2nd generation idol interactions and how they were like one very big family, support each other although from different labels, and the fandom also always looking forward to the collaborations between group/labels... sadly started from 3rd generation onwards, there are so many toxic fans (not all but many) that somehow makes the idols have to follow extremely strict rules, and they're not free to be/ show their true self in public..

i have a feeling that when ppl finally get tired of the retro trend that's going on right now, 2nd gen type music might become the next trend, since a lot of 2nd gen groups are already making comebacks and for some reason everyone's feeling nostalgic lately

The 2nd gen was an another level

I started as KPOP fan in 2014 for EXO but I remember that some ppl were already fans of suju, 2ne1,girls generation at that time and I also got amazed by these groups, I loved F(x), SHINee, 4Minute, Bigbang...massive respect and admiration for them ♥️

All of the group have their own music style, I mean like if you heard this kind of music you can recognize which group they're coming from 😭 2nd generation idols remains legendary era ever. sometimes I feel lucky to experience the era during my teenage life somehow because I'm growing up listening all of their song 🥺

This is what a kpop songs should sound. If you want to know what the uniqueness and the different between kpop and other pop songs just look at this gen's songs.

The generation that popularized K-pop on KRplus and made K-pop go truly global. It's also the generation that got me into K-pop!

This is the generation where Musicality, Concept, and Talent is the name of the game. This "uniqueness" is what set 2nd Gen kpop the Golden Era. Because every group is different. I took a break in Kpop from 2016 to 2020 (was a fan since 2009), and I agree to most 2nd gen fans here, Kpop did change their sound to something there is no hook for older fans. Don't get me wrong, we get it why this happened since Kpop is exploding in North America now and there is a much younger audience now. But as we always say. they don't make KPOP like this anymore.
PS: most of the new stans call 2nd gen, KPop boomers. hahaha yeah right. (most 2nd gen fans are on their post 25s already hahaha)

The best era of kpop when there was no/less fanwar. Cause you just enjoy every group. I really miss Sistar :')

I remembered I was in third grade that time when I started being a Kpop fan, and my classmates always laugh at me because of my music taste. Like what???? This is the golden era where all masterpieces are created. This is era just brings back a lot of memories. I can still recall almost half of the songs here.

Wow.. i remember being the weird girl in high school listening to BEAST back in 2009. Holy molly i feel so old! THIS IS THE BEST KPOP ERA EVER! Man.. i remember how i used to stay till late to watch the comback stages ans watch the shows without Eng sub.

This was true KPOP not this new shit. This was the true Kpop beats and true kpop Melodies and true choreography, true kpop makeup and outfits. We will never get this back and I’m glad and privileged to experience this back then😩❤️ It’s so hard to find people who truly appreciated this era of kpop. I’ll forever love the Golden Era🙏🏻

2nd generation just OWNS all the kpop classic anthems.

Taeyang's Wedding Dress is the song that got me into Kpop. I cried SO HARD at that music video, and I've been a fan ever since.

Second generation kpop groups are too good for this world. they were ahead of their time. It was just a golden era when advanced dancing wasn't all that and it wasn't about appealing to the western industry and not being at the top of charts. Some of these groups are older than most groups known now that almost everyone seems to love and are the same groups being slept on because not many people know about them. Props to those groups who are still going strong despite being an underrated group

Gentle reminder to those who still don’t get the importance and standards set by Gen 2: Most female trainees had to learn Girls Generation’s Into the New World regardless of the agency. ITNW is Girl’s Generation’s debut song at that.

Infinite, Highlight (Beast) and MBLAQ were my ultimate fav groups back then. ❤️ ❤️ However I also liked Shinee, 2PM,2AM, Bigbang, 2ne1 and U-Kiss a lot... And Ok I almost loved all songs.. 😂 BEST KPOP GEN (RIP Jonghyun "Y si fuera ella" was one of the best songs ever produced (for me personally))

About the list, for group list, I agreed. About the song, their most legendary song not in the list. Just like Nobody (Wonder Girl), Hot Issue (4Minute), Fire (2Ne1), Mister (Kara), etc is real legendary song who make K-Pop famous in the world.

I got into kpop in 2014 thanks to 2nd gen groups, Suju was the first, then I found SHINee, TVXQ, BIGBANG, INFINITE, 2PM, BEAST, U-KISS, SNSD, 2NE1...Good old times
And now many 2nd gen boy groups are coming back, SHINee and Suju already did their comebacks, Highlight (Beast) did it in May, 2PM comeback after military is this June and looking for Bigbang, TVXQ and INFINITE comebacks too

Super junior introduced me to Kpop and i fell in love with the other 2nd generation groups as well...missing this golden era

I wish I could’ve experienced second Gen era. I got into Kpop in 2012 which was part of the golden era and it was my favorite year. I stopped enjoying the music as much in 2018/2019. I miss when the music was good. Especially back in the 2nd Gen and 3rD Gen I liked all comebacks and songs now it’s hard for me to like anyone’s music these days

When the music and concept still vary. Everyone has their own color and style and succeed in doing so. Nowadays, both the music and style have became too similar to each other. It's just a matter of competition to see which one comes out first. Heavy beat drop is the key point in the songs. It's fascinating to see how the culture has shifted from enjoying melodic songs to enjoying heavy beat drops in songs. I miss 2nd Gen era so much. I spent my youths years listening to their unique songs.

Many of my favorite songs in the 2nd generation are especially songs from underrated groups

i miss using my mp3 and listening to these songs on the way to school and/or back. what a beautiful time to live back then, when my favourite groups were still active and lovely people were alive (i miss you so much, jonghyun, sulli, hara).

Infinite brought me into KPOP. Up until a few years ago they were my favorite but now I'm completely into 2pm. They are the total package for me...sound, dancing, visuals, personalities and for some...acting. I listened to some Infinite the other day....got totally nostalgic and had goosebumps again. I was naive enough to think Infinite would stay together for a long time. Was disappointed when Hoya left and now the others have signed with different agencies. I wonder if they disbanded???

bring me back to this era..i miss them..the era where we enjoy kpop without getting pressure with views and popularity
