Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming our world. Some, like Elon Musk, warn that AI could be a dangerous force, a "demon" we unleash upon ourselves. However, scientists see AI's potential as a powerful tool, not a replacement for human intelligence. It has the potential to be even more transformative than the invention of electricity.
Imagine AI that can think, write, communicate, and analyze information just like humans. This technology holds immense promise for solving complex problems and improving lives. But there's a flip side. Yuval Noah Harari, a renowned historian, cautions that uncontrolled AI could become a weapon of mass destruction.
The question remains: how can we ensure AI is used for good? What role can governments and international collaboration play? And how can developing countries like Nepal harness the power of AI for their own benefit?
On this episode of Fireside, Journalist Rupesh Shrestha has interviewed Computer Scientist Dr. Sameer Maskey, the Nepali-born founder of the American AI company Fusemachines. Together they have explored the exciting possibilities and potential pitfalls of AI in the years to come.
