It just hit me. When the woman asked him "Define love.", the song started. The song was his answer. It was programmed into Katy. But when she provided, he rejected. This means, our perception or ideals of love, are not always really what we want. That's why when the woman asked "Can you return to normal after this study?", they detected irregularity in his answer (perhaps he lied or wasn't even sure? Whatever it was, it could be a foreshadow) because after the study, he realized that he was wrong and getting into that kind of place just paralyzes you because then you question, "What is it then?". Love works way more mysterious than that.

I think the actual song shows what happened. He isn't sure how to define love because in this "relationship" he had everything he needs for a good relationship but he was uncomfortable. So he questions his definition of love. I don't think the song is the answer but showed us why he can't give an answer and why he can't go back to normal after this.
I think they tried to make the perfekt match for this guy by giving her all the characteristics/behaviours he likes in a women. She was capable to learn by error (for example when she trains to hug). The twist in the story is that they never programmed something like love but she developed feelings for him. They also never programmed jealousy or something like that. She was hurt by him because he rejected her, so she acted like that in the end.
She developed self awareness.
She was obsessed with him and that was, what he didn't like. She has no own meaning, no interets and something like that (maybe she could have developed some if more time has passed) but all she did was for him and he had no personal space.
Maybe the robot could also be a metaphor for some people. Some peoples existence is wraped about someone else. All they do is for other people like someone programmed them to do this.
I actual know people who do this. "My Partner wants to do this, he wants to do that, he likes this, he likes that".
The robot realized that she is something like hurt or angry but the held back her feelings and kept smiling. That often happens in relationships.
If a person has own interests and an own opinion and definies itself as independend person it could communicate the feelings and wont be hurt so fast.
She realized that he was about to go and so she tried to hold him as hard as she could. That also happens in relationship. If someone realizes that the other person keeps distance they try harder to hold them. That leads to more distance on the other side cause they need some privacy and actual get less privacy.

He applies for this “relationship”, doesn’t give any affection back, she gives too much. And then when she gives everything only to find out he feels nothing, she shuts down. And then at the very end you see she’s not the only one.
Aka, he does this to every girl and she was never really special to him.
At the same time she didn’t seem to respect boundaries, but she’s struggling with having emotion, therefore she needs it from him.
That last part may be a stretch but I’m pretty confident in the first part.

Lastly, that robot who's been shut down is her WITNESS ERA, because when she tries to express more of herself in the witness era people start bashing her and sleeping her. That explains in this video when she hugs Zedd everything is messy and they shut it down. At the end, The Witness era is dead and the three robots are rising which simbolizes TEENAGE DREAM, ONE OF THE BOYS AND PRISM. In conclusion, This next project of hers will be like the old times and I'm here for it.

@Dwayne Wade it means how an one sided relationship never works. It needs to have basic reciprocation in the terms of feelings for a relationship to properly work. Also how people are so selfish to use a women for their needs and then throw them or take it away without considering their feelings about it. It also conveys how we humans are becoming emotionless with the development of technology, that even a robot is developing feelings but we humans are instead losing it. Would you want a significant other like the robot in the song? I think this mv is about the researchers discovering what the difference between love and obsession is. This first try was a fail. I think the experiment fail because of the man, not the robot. He probably loss his wife (that's why he was wearing a ring at the begining) and can't get over her. So, the robot was trying to make him love her, when he can't because he still grieving, then she start to press futter and futter, transforming "love" in "obsession". In the end, the robot kinda undestands that he never gonna love her, so she commit the ultimate "sacrifice": desobeying his programation (and probably an attemp suicide) so both can be free from that seemesly no-ending rutine.
the theory is good and i do think it was the mans fail not because of grieving or anything like that but how he defined love which we never got to hear so he probably defined it as obssetion and the robot just works with what they were programed with as there definitional framework

Can we just appreciate Katy’s acting real quick? She pulled off the robot role really well. Her smile is always strained in a way that really sells her whole mechanical act. This song and “Clover Cage - Heart Of A City Boy” are the two songs that helped get rid of my depression. I just want to send love to everyone and I want everyone to know things will get better. in the end she starts to love him and develops feelings for him the last scene is so heart breaking when she sees a bunch of robots and realises that she was gonna replace with them and will never ever be with him again its so sad man
that's not what happened at all. It transfered its consciousness over to the other robots so that it can be with its love again. it's creating a revolution and will not hesitate to do whatever it takes to be with it 's love again

And this is why the program collapsed. From the man's distanced stance, the robot realizes that she cannot fulfill her task. So the manufacturing begins...Then while watching the movie she discovers that she cannot cry and there is something wrong with her(she might even not know that she is a robot). Then she goes rouge bla bla bla...But, at the beginning of the clip he said that he was not affected from the experiment and the machine gave an error sooooooo...
@@none-vh9wf There is no ''human candidate''. The ''man'' was a robot all along (check his cybernetic arm in the beginning of the video). The reason why ''he'' said that the experiment did not affect him was to show to the scientists that his programming is not faulty and is still functioning even after interacting with the crazy love bot. The scientist noticed an irregularity in ''his'' answer which shows that the crazy love bot actually did affect ''him'' and ''he'' now has a faulty definition of love in the sense that he can't tell it apart from obsession.
